    The Honda CRV has always been at the top of my list, but now you convinced me that the hybrid is the best choice. I dropped Toyota from consideration because dealers in the US are ripping off customers with outrageous dealer markups. The Mazda CX-5 is great except it is too small, and rear passangers may find it uncomfortable. The Subaru Forester is a great alternative and a serious contender, but fuel economy is not so good. The CRV hybrid is the winner.

    We purchased the CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring. The only other serious contender was the RAV4 Plug-In, but in the end, the cost difference did not warrant that choice. We are thrilled with the CR-V. Value, reliability and safety were our major reasons for the choice. The fit and finish is superb! The drivetrain simplicity and reliability gave me complete confidence. (This is our first hybrid vehicle.) There is ample technology, and all the right bells and whistles to satisfy my need for "state of the art-ness". Creature comforts, load capacity and people capacity are excellent. There is certainly no "weird" hybrid feel to the driving experience at all. We are still on the first tank of gas, and are getting just under 40 mpg. Areas to improve on.... the Horn! LOL! Sounds like someone stepped on a mouse. I went online, and purchased the second horn and wiring harness, and problem solved. Also bought the Official Honda HomeLink Auto Dimming mirror, so our garage door opener is once again "built-in". (This should have been standard on this trim level, frankly.) Even though I have always been impressed with Honda's reliability, I purchased the Honda Care Extended Warranty for 7 years/100K miles. We plan on keeping this vehicle for a LONG time.

      It's missing a 360 degree camera which is very important these days. for some reason when my wife drives her 2023 model uphill, she gets the engine screaming.

      No spare tyre even on higher trims is a bummer. No ventilated seats, 360 camera, and slightly less mpg compared to rav4. Also RAV4 reliability and resale value are slightly higher. I heard the braking system and the overall quality of the hybrid system are better in RAV4 than CRV. More than anything it's pricey than rav4. But it's still a great car undoubtedly, especially the interior space and quality are top notch. Seats are very comfortable and that itself is a major reason for many people to buy it and of course it drives very smooth.

    We just got our 2024 CR-V Hybrid Touring. It is simply the best car we've owned (so far). One thing the review didn't mention was the acceleration which is MUCH better than the non-hybrid (which we owned previously). The handling and smooth ride is impressive--more noticeable than on our previous CR-V. One complaint is we live in the mountains of Southern Utah. Driving long distances uphill on the highway makes the engine get really noisy. One sound that is interesting thing is when the car is shifted into reverse. I actually took it back to the dealership to make sure there wasn't something wrong, and that's when I was told this is to make the car noticeable when backing up. The dealership said it was "the voice of angels." I've had people stop and look when they hear it because it's such an unusual sound. But that term really describes it. Great car!

      @DerekDunifer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you worried about having no spare? I live in the mountains, very rural and often don't have cell service and help is hours away so that is the main reason I'll probably be getting the Rav4 hybrid instead.

    Average MPG for hybrid is 40, for non hybrid is 30. A price of gallon of gas is around 3.50 now. For hybrid it is 0.0875 $ per mile and for non hybrid it is 0.1167 $ per mile. The difference is 0.0292 $ per mile. Hybrid is about $2K more expensive than non-hybrid. To break even you have to drive 2,000/0.0292 = 68,493 miles. Is additional complexity of hybrid worth it? Saving money is not the same as saving fuel.

    I’ve had a 2024 hybrid CR-V sport touring since January and I love it with a couple of exceptions. One is never mentioned which is the windshield washer system. The washer solution is located in the wipers themselves and doesn’t spray enough solution at a time. I’m close to the ocean and have salt spray on my windshield every morning so use the washers daily. It leaves streaks and puddles on the driver side of the windshield that dry in big spots. I use twice as much solution than with my 2020 CR-V. In addition, I can’t imagine how expensive replacement wipers will be. The second issue is the inability to turn completely off the lane change assist and the cruise control braking system. I know what I’m doing and I don’t need my car telling me when to brake or when I’ve deliberately moved slightly across the painted lane lines! Having said that, I LOVE everything else about this car.

      I think I am going to by the spare. Amazon has them with a case. It may take up some room, but then think about the hassle of using the pump. If you have an extra tire around, try measuring it or the original tire would help you determine the space.

    Test drove all 3. Mazda is slick and fun to drive but I chose to buy the CR-V hybrid Sport Touring because of its SPACIOUS rear seats, classy interior and excellent handling. RAV4 had a few more bells and whistles, but it cost about 2G more than the Honda, didn't have as premium interior, and it didn't handle as well as the Honda. It was also noisier.

    Let's see... bought our CRV "Sport-L" Hybrid 6 months ago but didn't catch this video until today... so relieved to hear we chose well! 🙂 Kidding aside, IMHO this is a fair and thorough review. My only, and very minor, critique is that the reporter didn't say much about Honda's decision to NOT play what I call "The Package Game" (e.g if you want heated seats, you must buy the "XYZ" package that includes a bunch of stuff you DON'T want). One of the things that turned us off of the Rav-4 was The Package Game. That, and the CRV Hybrid has more cubic feet of cargo space. To be fair, we've had GREAT luck with Toyotas - our beloved 2005 Highlander is still on the road (our son's GF is now the owner). But in the end, we agree with the reviewer that (a) the CRV Hybrid is on the pricey side, but also (b) it's an EXCELLENT vehicle. It's our first hybrid and I'm impressed by... just about everything. Cheers.

    One issue not mentioned here is the lack of a spare tire with the Hybrid. I'm considering the Hybrid right now and that's the primary reason I haven't bought one to date. I know you can buy a spare tire kit but it takes up too much room in the vehicle when you need it most, traveling. I found the non hybrid to be a bit underpowered and the hybrid, in spite of being heavier, is adequate. I put a deposit on a Rav4 Hybrid (considerably quicker acceleration and comes with a spare tire but, not as quiet and slightly rougher ride) in May and I'm told it will still be about 6 to 8 months for the one I ordered. I may be the owner of a CRV Hybrid next week if I can just get past the lack of a spare.

    It’s an excellent choice, except for one major issue. Here in Canada whenever we’re outside of major centres we can encounter weak or nonexistent cell service. Shouldn’t be an issue except for this problem; if you have an unrepairable flat, what are you supposed to do because you do not have a spare!
    Love Hondas, have had many of their four and two wheeled vehicles but this is a trend I have difficulty accepting. I’ve found some alternatives solutions out there but they all require you to cobble up some kind of system to hold the spare so it doesn’t fly through the vehicle in an accident and take you out. Why should we have to do that Honda (and others including Tesla)?

    Just bought the CR-V Hybrid Touring. Like alot. I normally purchased Toyotas, but the Venza was a long time coming and the Rav4 were sold before they even hit the lot. I saved some bucks but lost some features. The ventilated seats, was the big one. I don't much care for the panoramic roof and kept the shade closed 90% of the time on my Camry. First hybrid and first Homda. I thik I can live without the ventilated seats because it's been really hot here and I didn't misa them. The ride and increased towing capacity makes up for the loss. Owned for a week so there is that...

    I totally agree with the comment that the hybrid versions of the 2024 CRV is a much better choice than the normal versions mainly due to the not-quite-resolved issue with the oil dilution on the 1.5 litre turbo engine. We have a 2018 Honda Civic with this 1.5 litre turbo engine and we can smell gasline whenever we pull the dip stick out. Both Honda and dealers have claimed that this issue has been resolved but I am not buying. This is the same old 1.5 litre engine with a bit of software 'updates' which may be alright in certain climates and driving condition.

Do you have experience on battery life expectancy and cost to replace?

  • @flyinarmadillo
    @flyinarmadillo ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mechanical simplicity? is better in a hybrid ? Motor -batteries - extra drivetrain front and rear - opening you up to a world of additional mechanical issues, not to mention if you’re actually going to KEEP the vehicle - the hybrid batteries lose about 50% power in 7yrs , replacing the battery pack is a huge expense. Resale on the hybrid will take a beating.
    Additionally the CVT transmission is a cheaper and weaker unit as compared to the traditional 8 speed transmission in the Toyota FWD - a vehicle (with care) should last 200,000 - 300,000 miles.

    • @jeffjo8732
      @jeffjo8732 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For those with short attention spans, it does not have an "extra drivetrain front and rear" that "open[s] you up to a world of additional mechanical issues." It has a integrated drivetrain that adds two motor generators and a special-purpose clutch. But uses them to eliminate the turbo, the alternator, the starter motor, the drive belt, the torque converter, and - here's the best part, in the Honda only - the *_entire_* transmission.
      So yes, the CR-V is probably simpler, mechanically, than any other SUV on the road. And batteries are much better today than the ones you misrepresent from the early 2000's.
      And they have strong reliability and resale figures. Taking the 2018 Accord and Camry as an example, KBB rates the resale value of both hybrids between 75% and 80% of original MSRP. For a five-year-old car. Their reliability for the Accord is 4.5 out of 5 for the Accord, and 4.1 out of 5 for the Camry.

    I bought a 2024 CRV touring hybrid in Mar. I was not aware it did not have a spare tire. When I got a flat in the city (Toronto), I reached out to the Honda roadside assistance, the person who came out had no clue what to do. Four hours later a truck came and towed my car to the Honda I purchased from. I was close to home but could not leave the car I case the truck showed up. I had to get the ho da dealership manager involved to even get someone out. Extremely disappointed in the roadside assistance, my experience leaves me even more worried if I should get a flat on the highway or in a rural area. I will not purchase another car like this for safety reasons . As much as I like a Honda vehicle I cannot recommend it. Another strange issue is the seatbelt does not stay in place it keeps riding up and sits on my neck I am constantly having to pull it away from my neck which is uncomfortable especially on a long drive. ( I would like to hear if others have this seatbelt issue). A 3rd disappointment, is that the trunk after 5 months started sticking and today would not open at all.

    I bought a 2023 hybrid touring in June and love the handling and driveline. Unfortunately the front seats are too narrow for me and induce hip pain on trips longer than a test drive (36" waist). The driver's power seat adjustments are oddly hinged and the seat base is too short, making it very difficult to achieve a compromise between back support and thigh support (I'm 5' 11 in my socks).
    The adjustable lumber support feels like a soda bottle. These seats make a great first impression but ultimately feel like they were made for small people. Definitely inferior to the seats in my 2015 Fit LX. Profoundly disappointing.
