There are some really good "rule" stories but they need to be done well. This was one of the good ones. Some are just really lazy and bad though

The scariest part of this story is the amount of fuel you'd have to burn to do it
How many cars would actually be able to go from dusk to dawn, maybe you'd have to specifically modify it to be able to, don't think your run of the mill civic could go 12 hours on a single tank.
To be fair you could just idle. Nowhere does it specify how fast you have to go. You could just leave gear and let it idle its way down the road. download a movie onto your phone and watch while you wait for him to show up. Give him your candle then go home and enjoy the crusty socks that you forgot under your old bed in your parent's house that were left on your front deck.
I mean, at least you get a cool hat
If two people are allowed, then I would suggest they first pick up a spare gas can from the gas station, then while one person lights the candle, the other fills up the car to top it off.

I'm sure NOBODY is playing the game---not with THESE gas prices! It's almost $7 a gallon in some places!
I can see it now---The Highway Man jumping out in the middle of I-81 so he can stop drivers, begging them to play his game like some crackhead 😂
It would be really cool if the interviewer was an entity related to the highway man hence the secrecy... Hell maybe it even goes on behalf of the highway man after those who've won too many times since he couldn't do it himself as that isn't in the rules.

I think that is not really good, the highway man would have no reason to. He gets offerings one way .He never loses as he gets offering or the player becomes the offering. Your reward is the transaction for him having your offering. He get nothing out of it for killing players outside of game as he stop getting offerings as player base is killed off.

Yeah LH, I would like to second that. I listen to a few other channels as well, please dont judge, I'm a junkie! I'm pretty sure that you are the only one of my subscribed to list that has continued to upload throughout the holidays and not fallen back on Best of 2021 reruns. I think it's that the interviewer also played the game and has seen something too. But I think there is no twist or anything, just a retelling of his previous experience via interview.

So I feel like I recognize this story from something I listened to uhh🤔 maybe like a year+ ago. Except in the story the ritual goes wrong. I wonder if that's the guy they're talking about that disappeared. I very distinctly remember the wrecked cars, the twisted man entity, the streetlights but I swear it wasn't structured this way so I feel like maybe it was a different story by the same author/related universe.
Edit: Or its possible the character I'm thinking of just stumbled upon this ritual by accident. But I'm almost 99% certain there's a related story.
Huge missed opportunity to continue the story with her telling him about some other weird situations and rules, until he realises that he is in that exact situation with her right now. Like her trapping him, or triggering a different game by interviewing him and recording it.. something along those lines.
These stories are cool but this one is weird. Who comes up with these rules and how do you even know that he likes scented candles or you can’t pass him a 4th time? Mysterious details that seemingly come from nowhere always pull me out of the story a bit.
So its a guy who eats candles and collects random stuff that HATES when he's passed 4 times

This is an interesting take of the Rules concept :0 I find the survival kinds rather repetitive and boring, but this one was good! :D A recounting interested if a first hand experience.
What if you have more than one candle in your car? If you light it before the first one goes out does it save you or does the highway man recognize the new candle?

This echoes the Left Right game in a lot of ways. A journalist interview a veteran paranormal experience chaser about a "game" where you drive and follow specific instructions otherwise you don't go home. Makes me almost think they exist in the same continuity.

I don't actually get the point to this story. Who is being interviewed, and why is he talking about it? Who is interviewing and recording him and what is her story? The ending is fairly ominous, but there is no payoff to it.
Can't you like take 50 candles with you so there's no problem if they extinguish
