They were even designed by church architect Emil B. Fetzer to have the same exterior, which is meant to look like a cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night, representing the Lord going before the children of Israel. Their uniqueness was that they had a twin. 😁

I left for my mission in 1972. I flew from Virginia to Utah to enter the Mission Home in SLC, but before that I toured the new Provo Temple during its open house. I then went through the Salt Lake Temple for my own endowments. Now neither exist as I knew them. I'm fine with whatever the Lord wants.

The prior design was "a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night" emphasized by a copper-colored spire at the time. Most didn't grasp its symbolism and looks rather bland compared to more modern designs.

I accept it. And I am grateful that Kirtland is thriving. But it never had the technology/ infrastructure that we have had this past century. I was also sealed there. But I look forward to the replacement being finished and dedicated so I can get back to serve at the pace I have become accustomed to. That’s what is most important. For the temples to be operational and attended. It’s very hard to get the appointments I used to when we had both Provos. Even with Orem recently opened. I heard they are hurrying to get Lindon done. That will help.

The same design 100 or 1,000 miles apart is one thing especially if the state is the size of Montana or Utah and you only have 3-4 temples in the entire state. But 3 in the same county? Come on guys. Give us something more original if you're going to build 3-4 temples in the same county in the same 10 years.😢. At least the insides will look different.
Actually, oddly enough, I think the temples are designed by employees then submitted for approval. Apparently the Lindon temple was designed by a different person, thank the heavens. Oh well. I can at least hope in 100 years the 3 in Utah county will be renovated again with a more unique look for at least one of them....

Sad to see it go, but thankfully it isn't as iconic as others out there so its not the end of the world. Matthew 26: 7-11
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
The purpose of temples may be likened to an ointment in preparation for His return, lest the Earth should be utterly wasted. Besides, how does this prevent you from spending your own money on the poor?

It is the covenants made there that drive the many acts of service as well as the donations.

Be cautious when you speak about people and things you do not understand. Even Gamaliel, a Pharisee, was more wise when he said:
      Acts 5:38-39
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
The Lord turns none away, so the invitation to you is: Come learn about the Savior Jesus Christ and His church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Evangelicals are often very cultish. Especially when they accuse Mormons of being cultish

Sad to see this iconic structure rebuilt to look like most of the ugly new ones. It was buggered up in 2003 when they painted the spire white from gold, then plopped that Moroni on it. I just hope they don't think of reconstructing the Cardston temple to look like one of these new, ugly things.

Stop worshipping temples. Go to any one of them and worship God.
