When the spa pump is running in low speed for heating and filtering the one way valve is closed so it draws through the filter. When the pump goes into high speed it needs more water and the valve opens and draws water in through the suctions in the foot well. If you need to replace insulation use Rock Wool type insulation. Pack it in as is or you can tape it up onto garbage bags for larger areas.

It went up the same way it goes down at the end, on a air bag. Or just brute strength

Foam blows! Insulate wall panels so you can see your plumbing! I bought a Sundance Optima spa and find the leak location is a nightmare!

No primer on old pipe ?

No primer for a couple reasons. But mainly because the pipe was clean and sanded. This blue glue doesn't require primer like some other bonding agents, grey for example.
Primer is always a good idea though, it definitely wouldn't have hurt here.

What a mess. Great video to show why full foam is only for "throw-away' hot tubs and will soon be a thing of the past.

The check valve is there so it moves water through the filter. If filter is blocked, valve will open and it will start using the floor suction. Putting straight pipe, now less water maybe none is travelling through filter. IMO still good job, not the funnest thing to do in a cold day.

That makes sense, we came to the same conclusion. This is not a common practise however, I can't think of any other brand (that I've had to flip and fix) that builds this way. I wish they manufactured this valve in a different spot, we've had to do this same procedure on several of their units. :(

The Hot Tub Channel worked 2 years with jacuzzi, I’ve done my share of tub flips. Check valves and ix jets on 400 series. Same repair, one tech in a non-foam tub takes quarter of the time.

So, what did you use to re-insulate the repaired area?
    Thanks

We get our foam from a supplier local to us. It's a 2 part product that mixes at the time of use through an applicator gun.
Here is a link to the foam we use from the suppliers website ! I hope this was helpful.

@@thehottubchannel4335 Hi, I know this is 2 years old. I need to replace a section of insulation in my hot tub from a repair. The repair person told me to use regular home r30 insulation and simply pack it in there. This does not sound right due to it could get wet. Can you please tell me the exact product you use and how I can get it? thank you very much.

Is that dry wall tool tool of choice by most guys ? I’m watching this like ok ..

That's a dry wall tool? I thought it was a foam removal tool 😂.
What tools do you use out there to remove foam like this in hot tubs? Asking all hot tub techs, what's your favorite tool?
