Hi Dave. Would you please be able to show how to change UV lamp on Hydropool hot tub.
Hi. Would you please make video how to change UV lamp on Hydropool hot tub
Thank you so much - clear and concise info on how the hot tub buttons work. Now, the poster is on but the heater and the pumps are not coming on……what do we need to check?
Super helpful video!
THANK YOU so much for the program pump tutorial! Our hot tub wasn’t circulating and we had no idea what to do. We went to the place that we got the tub from, and they printed out the owners manual. It was so confusing. Your tutorial totally helped! I’m hoping it’ll help with the cloudiness
@@lisapercy219 I’m glad that was helpful for you. My suggestion for cloudiness is to make sure your water levels are ideal. Bromine 5ppm, ph 7.4-7.6, Alk 100. Rinse the filter or replace (this is super important), and oxidize the water with chlorine, or an oxidizer from the store. For a FFP I’d use around 100ml of store bought chlorine (10%) or 250g ezBoost Lite, from Hydropool or comparable. When it’s clear, rinse the filter again throughly, it’s like a garbage can and you need to empty it, or it starts to stink up the water
Wow!! I wish I had found this earlier, but I’m happy to have the info now! My 86-year old mom purchased this last year. In my opinion the installers put it in incorrectly (she has no access to the steps, so she has to ‘flop’ herself in over the side! She’s really fit so it’s okay for now but may be an issues moving forward. The water is consistently cloudy and kind of grungy right now. I’m going to clean the filter first, as per your instructions….but can I shock the swim spa ffp 13 too? Thanks!
Foam blows! Insulate wall panels so you can see your plumbing! I bought a Sundance Optima spa and find the leak location is a nightmare!
That must be an OLD Hydropool model, as mine has a true touch screen.
Thank you for the video. When swim spa is not being used should I turn off or I should leave it always on when is too cold to not freeze the pipes?
Always ON, never turn it off unless you are properly winterizing it. Pipes will freeze, you are correct.

When the spa pump is running in low speed for heating and filtering the one way valve is closed so it draws through the filter. When the pump goes into high speed it needs more water and the valve opens and draws water in through the suctions in the foot well. If you need to replace insulation use Rock Wool type insulation. Pack it in as is or you can tape it up onto garbage bags for larger areas.
If weve found a way to exclude from housing then why haven't the manufacturer found a way to exlcude from foam hot tubs.
I was gifted a 2 person hot tub that works. Shop vacuum the foam and turds. Clean, repair, and reform with hardware cloyh" galvanized steel with 1/4 diameter holes. Going to wrap and staple it. Head to toe. Wish me luck!
Good vids, fellow pool and spa guy
Great video anyone know what all the symbols are above time ie temputure symbol ?
Had to do this to an 8X8 CalSpa. Not fun! I re-stuffed the bottom with fiberglass insulation and then Stapled on a heavy plastic sheet to hold it in when I put the tub back down. Any future leaks will be easy to find now and I can just throw away any insulation that gets wet as it is cheap to replace.
just another reason why full foam spas are not what they are cracked up to be.
Great video, we got absolutely no information on how the panel settings works. This is most helpful!
Can you order a replacement lock ring? My tub is missing that and anytime the pumps not on the filter is floating around as it's not secured
Replacement lock rings are available and can be purchased from any Hydropool retailor
which manufacturer of the hot tub?? And what did you do to refill the foam insulation ?
Thats why your hot tub should have closed cell insulation not open cell. Open cell insulation absorbs water, closed cell does not.
I would have to disagree. Absorbing water is not the reason why I would recommend choosing one foam over another. Closed cell foam is extremely adhesive and very difficult to work with. It may not absorb water, but you still have to cut it out either way and that is a much harder job to do with closed cell. I’d prefer to fix a hot tub that uses open cell. Wet foam also makes tracking and isolating a leak much easier, faster and removal of the insulation can be done with your hands vs a chisel and/or screwdriver. I’d rather no foam to be honest, there are other ways to decently insulate a hot tub that do not require this decades old practise of spraying messy adhesive foam all over fittings, connections, lights, and electronics. If I had to own one I’d like one that is easier and cheaper for after sales service.
@@nofomo5423no foam? Then how would it be insulated?
ThermoSpas is the only one without spray foam insulation! Easy to work on and energy consumption runs me $19/mo.
@@aaronjones5632 no way 20$ a month in winter
Yes $20 maybe $25 a month. 3 to 5 times a week. ThermoSpas is highend. They reuse the heat instead of exhausting it out of the unit like all other spas do. Check it out.
Thanks! I appreciate your opinion about the horrors of spray foam and getting under the hot tub only due to no panels on the model you are working on. One good thing is once you remove all the spray foam, or gut it as you said, the next leak will be easier to find because spray foam will not be returning into it again! I agree. Yup! I am doing this removal of spray foam in a roto molded 2 person hot tub. It took hours to jack it up 26 inches on multiple 6x6 pressure treated left over blocks of wood. And I get underneath to take out the spray foam, placing it on a tarp to contain the spray foam pieces. I still have not found where the upper sections of the foam, around the upper layer jets (5) are wet? Its all dry so far. I started on day 2 working on removing the underneath plastic panel in the large rectangular area to remove spray foam for the one jet and the spray foam around that jet is also dry. To not get too discouraged from the monotony of removing the spray foam, I work at it no more than 2 hours at a time per day. Horrible spa service on Prince Edward Island, Canada, Atlantic Canada so I took to reliable youtube spa vids to guide me to what to expect. Decided I have nothing to lose but a lot of money if I do it myself (female taking it on solo) to see how far I can get. I agree with this guy. I feel I should gut all the spray foam and that means being patient to get the stuck spray foam off the valves and hoses. Lots and lots of patience! After looking at finding a leak on a hot tub, I decided it was better to jack it up as high as I could and safely so that if I could not find the leak from the wet spray foam I had the option of filling it up with water and looking at it underneath inside to see where the drips would be coming from. So weird that I have not felt the upper spray foam wet yet? I took the water level down just below the first layer of jets (5) and the dripping stopped. This was a pro trick to start helping find which area's might be a leak. I drained the rest of it out, took hours to jack it up looking for stuff I had to do the job, patiently. I realize from youtubers that I will need to get some simple tools to help me get the foam off the hoses and in tight area's. But, yes, gutting it out and then placing rock wool inside along the side of it, stuffing it in, is the plan. NO more spray foam is going back in if I can help it! I have it sitting on 6 inches of rigid foam so I am not worried about any cold during our Winter months. The learning continues, and so does practicing patience. Cheers from Atlantic Canada.

Great note on replacing the foam
Hi, what hot tub cover manufacturer made the cover in the video? I'm trying to find a manufacturer that makes full foam center seals that are ONE piece, like was was pictured in the video (i.e., a single pillow that runs the whole distance of the seam, with color matched ends). Most of the manufacturers I'm finding are making these as three distinct pillows, two color-matched ones on the ends, and one long one between them. It's a poor design as the two pillows on the ends eventually tear off. Any help to locate a manufacturer that makes the full hinge seal as shown in the video would be greatly appreciated! (preferably with free shipping to West Coast). Thanks!
Most manufacturers should offer this option for a small fee. This cover in particular was made in Toronto at a manufacturer called HST Synthetics.
Great educational video.
Do you need to replace the foam?
Would you recommend a Hotsprings with Fibercore. Seems easy to remove.
I would recommend the Hot Springs, definitely, easy to remove insulation sounds great to us!
Is the foam in a Vita Spa DX series from the 90's this soft stuff that is easy to remove and even easier when it gets wet? Or is it that hard stuff that Hot Spring spas used on their old ones?
We honestly have no idea, but if I were to fathom a guess, it's going to be the hard stuff, especially if it's greenish in colour. That stuff doesn't come out easy.. Not that many manufacturers used this light, open cell foam. Most use the hard closed cell stuff unfortunately :(
Good stuff!
What a mess. Great video to show why full foam is only for "throw-away' hot tubs and will soon be a thing of the past.
I'm happy that Jacuzzi has an option around this stupidity. Jacuzzi is one of my favorites. My other 4 are Great Lakes, Jacuzzi built Thermospas, Vita Spas with Airbuttons from 2004 and older the "DX" line D30,D40,D60,D80 and Old Dynasty Hot tubs with Balboa Packs or Airbuttons.
Jacuzzi has an option around the using full foam? This is news to me, I've been inquiring about this since we made this video almost a decade ago, but they still only offer the full foam at the store across the street from ours. I will keep investigating because I would lover it if they did have a different insulation to the full foam we all know.
So I found a leak in my hot springs jet setter hot tub and repaired it. It’s a full foam hot so I’m just looking for info on what the best product and way to re foam what I dug out.
Did you ever find the leak? If so where was it? I'm just about to tear into my beachcomber unfortunately. Cheers
I did, the "Hush Pump" has a dedicated return line, some called it an Ozone jet. Basically the one jet in the footwell that runs all the time and returns hot water. That jet was leaking, I removed, resealed it with a new gasket and replaced it. I used a bunch of silicone around the nut. Barbed glued and clamped the line. Good luck, I hope you are fortunate and find it quick :).
@@nofomo5423 thanks for the reply.
How did you guys flip it side ways ? That would be awesome
It went up the same way it goes down at the end, on a air bag. Or just brute strength
Is that dry wall tool tool of choice by most guys ? I’m watching this like ok ..
That's a dry wall tool? I thought it was a foam removal tool 😂. What tools do you use out there to remove foam like this in hot tubs? Asking all hot tub techs, what's your favorite tool?
So I am about to try and do the same with my full foam tub. It's a Dimension 1 spa. Was great for 10 years, now nothing but leaks. (Big mistake going full foam, in retrospect.) Anyway, I think I'm going to try and Jack mine up on cinder blocks and 8' 4X4s for good support and I'll work on it on my back from below. That way I can put water in it and see the leaks. My question is, how do you reinsulate adequately? (I'm in Canada, so it needs to be well insulated.) Cheers!
Hey, you could reinsullate with spray foam, but I wouldn't. You'd be best to stuff some insulation in the holes you make and if you encounter future issues then atleast you'll be able to remove the insulation. You could insullate with radient barrier as well, it is sold in a roll, you'd have to cut it to fit your spa, but it is much easier to drape that like a blanket over the hole and tape it to the frame with Tuck Tape, or staple and Tuck Tape it. Again creating accessibility Incase you need future access. I hope that helps!
@@nofomo5423 That makes good sense. Thanks for the advice!!! Cheers!
Well! Another fellow Canadian with the same issue! I live on PEI and spa repair service is disappointing to say the least. This is what I wrote in the comment to this channel and then saw your comment afterward. Maybe you might be able to relate 😊 In any case, let me know if you have the time, how things went? I have a roto molded spa, 2 person from Costco; 5 yrs old no issues until this Spring. Thanks! I picked up a Beachcomber for free due to all the naysayers. Thanks.....the key is to drain it.....lift it up on blocks and refill so it's sitting horizontal. No biggie at all to go through the foam and find the leak. The Beachcomber is so efficient and stays leak free for a long time. So please keep bad mouthing them...I will buy anything you have and fix it in no time. Last one I fixed...15 mins....and they have excellent controls that keep going unlike many others.
This isn't a Beachcomber for the record. And we have a LOT of used leaky hot tub available here you can have for FREE. Please reach out to The Spa Shoppe in Whitby if you'd like to pick up a free leaky hot tub as we are going to throw them all out otherwise. :)
A vid explaining the control panel ops would be good as would the air and jet controls topside.
Now how do I kill them amd get them out?
hi trying to hog up the plugs got one in where is the other located
What would you recommend for a Hydropool swimspa outdoors in the backyard where I get full sun exposure from 1-7pm in the summer? Chlorine or Bromine and why? Thanks, great informative videos!
Hi Keith, thanks for the question. It is really up to you, however I would use Bromine if it were my swim spa. Bromine is much more stable than chlorine, especially when exposed to sunlight. Moreover swim spas are typically kept hotter than swimming pools and with the hotter temperatures bromine is definitely a more stable choice. Chlorine is un stabilized and requires cyanuric acid to be added with it to protect it from the sunlight. This is commonly incorporated with the chlorine at time of manufacturing however I prefer to avoid this altogether, I find the acid they mix in accumulates too quickly in a small environment like a swim spa and makes my skin irritated.
Great video very useful
Great informative video thanks for posting. Could you do a video on the Hydropool self cleaning platinum control unit?
Thanks, and yes we sure can! These videos are temporary until we have more professional ones produced. But I can do a walkthrough for everyone :)
There seems to be very few videos and reviews of Hydropool hot tubs maybe all there owners are super happy and chilling in their spas. Your explanations of chemicals was excellent. A platinum control panel overview would be great !
Do you ever replace the foam that was removed and if so can we see?
Professionals use water and air in the lines and then listen for escaping air. Do some research.
Are you a professional?
@Bobby b I would have to destroy the tub just to pressurize it, lol. Seems counter productive, I'll stick with what I know works, lol
@Hoserfishing Says the non professional. It's almost cute that you are giving advice on something you obviously know little about. You need to do some research into finding another personality instead of the douche bag one you have now.
And, the customer (and the neighbors) will be picking up bits of non-biodegradable foam in their yards and plant beds for the next 2 years.... Happy Happy.
The check valve is there so it moves water through the filter. If filter is blocked, valve will open and it will start using the floor suction. Putting straight pipe, now less water maybe none is travelling through filter. IMO still good job, not the funnest thing to do in a cold day.
That makes sense, we came to the same conclusion. This is not a common practise however, I can't think of any other brand (that I've had to flip and fix) that builds this way. I wish they manufactured this valve in a different spot, we've had to do this same procedure on several of their units. :(
The Hot Tub Channel worked 2 years with jacuzzi, I’ve done my share of tub flips. Check valves and ix jets on 400 series. Same repair, one tech in a non-foam tub takes quarter of the time.
Buy an arctic spa and eliminate all this
Hey, I just to be fair, Arctic Spas are one of several manufacturers that do not use a fully foamed insulation.
Except thy artic spa perimeter foam is much less efficient
