One of the great things about that Ludwig Supraphonic model is that it can have that boxy 📦 sound and also produce those high frequency overtones simultaneously. As a result it blends in nicely with many songs in a mix.
Lol! You are exactly right ! He doesn’t try to play above everyone else. Just an easy , natural , punchy simple clean style . Seems he is enjoying it too.. Carterphonic … i love it! I will buy one…Good idea cousin! He’s gotta do Weekly demo’s though! Hey Ludwig, listening?
The aluminum Supra models have that “perfect” balance. They may sound boring compared to other drums but it has that tone that blends in with songs so well
This snare is really well tuned and sounds good. I’ve heard other drummers even famous ones play this same drum with bad out of whack tuning and it sounds bad.
Here's a guy who knows how to extract every tone, tinge and tingle from a kit suited for his style. This is 24/7/365 right here. Very few drummers get that from me. Dave Weckl, Dave Dicenso, Todd Sucherman, Steve Smith, Dave Langguth, Vinnie Colaiuta and few others. Add Carter McLean to that list. Beautiful playing and gorgeous sounding kit.
Hey, a little Wanton Song. That was nice. I’ve always thought the 402 was such a great sounding drum. And watching you play is always a lot,of fun. Thanks for the upload Carter🙂
Awesome snare - it's no coincidence that this is the most recorded snare drum in the universe, but man, those toms stole the show. They sound perfect 😍
It is or was the most recorded snare drum because Hal Blaine played Ludwig drums and he is "estimated to be the most recorded studio drummer in the history of the music industry, claiming over 35,000 sessions and 6,000 singles." (Wikipedia) Hal played the Supraphonic snare drum similar to the one Carter is playing here.
I like the little *Zeppelin Wanton Song* motif around 1:47, he even played the cool snare break! which was always the grooviest part of the song to play for me. Just that little pause between the snare feels good to play in the wider context of the song.
Well I have been playing drums for 49 years and I love ludwig snare drums especially extremely well tuned ones I love black dot and silver dot drum heads and I love hearing drummers lay down interesting groves!! You have it all my friend!! Great demo!!
Can you pleeaaase do a "How to tune 'em drums" tutorial ? Your set sounds amazing and so perfectly tuned I really want to learn how you do it. I've got an old supraphonic and would never give it away.
Been watching a bunch of videos on Supras, lately, so when this one popped up in my feed I just clicked it and started watching. I was all like "Man this dude's got feeling for DAYS! I wonder who it is."... Then I scrolled down... Oh, it's Carter. no wonder. lol
The style of drumming that you do is obviously much different compared to Metal drumming, but I have to say, You are the best drummer on TH-cam by far. I say this because most people who come to TH-cam to watch drummers will tell you that the best drummer on the platform would be one of maybe 4 or 5 Metal drummers (Josh Steffen, 66Samus, Jared Dines, Fernando Lemus, and others). But you have something they all lack. World class Time interpretation. Impeccable groove skills. ability to stray away from the primary beat and come back to the original beat, etc. Thank you for being such an inspiration dude! Would love to see you playing with a popular band some day!
Hey Carter! Everytime I see one of your videos I put LIKE, I know that all your videos are tastefull, and the way you record your drums it is just tasty! I think you have the best sounding drums on youtube - your drums sound full, big, tasty & full of nuances and dinamics!
Carter, I think your Bass sound is one of the finest tuneings I've ever heard, and it's always ear excitement for me. Everything sounds great as usual.......... Thanks and Blessings!
Circuit Trainee honestly I’ve never personally played one. I know that’s what Led Zeppelin’s drummer, John Bonham used so I think that’s why it’s such a popular thing. From the videos I’ve watched they do sound very crisp but also have very good resonance with them as well.
@Circuit Trainee I know I'm 6 months late but in case you're still wondering, acrylic drums are super loud and punchy compared to wood. They're great for live performances but tend not to be used for recording as they can be overbearing. They also provide for cooler visuals when performing live.
The perfection of the sound and tone of the drums is matched only by your flawless technique and impeccable chops. Bravo! Thank you. What are the sizes of the drum kit?
Jack Thompson: "You're a wonderful therapist! You created a 'win-win' for both Geoff's self-esteem and Carter's long ago solidified brilliance in playing aaaaand tuning.... Reverse psychology is so powerful."
So sad I sold mine last year, but it gave me too many problems during the years. Love your playing anyway, and those Classic Maple sound awesome with both Coated and Clear Heads!
i own one of these. mine's from 70s. its incredible. someone could say ive done like a crime because i put diecast hoops on it but i've used a lot of damping anyway before i changed the hoops
I read your comment and had to respond. I totally get what you're saying (even if it is in jest). And I would guess you're not the only one, because this guy is one amazing musician. Getting discouraged, valid as that is, is a natural tendency amongst a lot of us drummers. It's an easy trap to fall into. But try to remind yourself that each one of us has something to offer. You or I or any number of us may have something we do that Carter McLean can't do, or play a certain feel that would never sound the same if he played it. It's hard not to constantly compare and to try to measure up, but it's a lot easier to find your own voice and uniqueness. Carter McLean is just one example of that. There is a point when you start to take videos like this (and a million others) and find inspiration instead of frustration. Transitioning from "I'll never be able to do that" and "What's the point?" to "I'm gonna work on that" or "I have my own version of that" is the goal ultimately. Good luck (and sorry to preach!).
C'est incroyable ce sont que tu produits... et avec toutes les batterie que tu jous ! Toujours musical bravo ! moi qui ai toujours évité ces peaux là !
I love the sound of these drums and a big part of that is the player. The tuning is excellent! Recording could be better but works. I have a Ludwig Black Beauty snare I use most of the time. I don’t play drums just record them. Great video thank you I subbed.
Can't see the throwoff clearly, but i think that's the snare i have ( with the old keystone badge ) as my main. Love that thing ....can't believe i rescued it from a dumpster. Looking at the end, i think your throwoff _is_ different.
He makes every snare sound like the one you should have bought.
True that!
caferrar
.....when won some lottery...believe me, that one does'nt come cheap..
That's the "problem", ahahahah!!!
Ha!
There is nothing like the sound of beautifully tuned drums... and that snare sounds a dream !!!
Nothing like a really special touch from a professional (MUSICIAN )drummer, who can play dynamically,FIRST !! :)
One of the great things about that Ludwig Supraphonic model is that it can have that boxy 📦 sound and also produce those high frequency overtones simultaneously. As a result it blends in nicely with many songs in a mix.
You deserve your own Ludwig signature snare and it should be called Carterphonic. Get on it Ludwig!!!
or the McPhonic... comes in three standard sizes: Small, Medium, Large and the limited edition Super-Size
Hahaha
Good one man !!!!!!😂
Hahaha!!!@@DesignerFromMars
I dont even watch for the actual drums anymore its just for the playing
Right
Really?
Me too.
Choice grooves
Stank face achieved. Lol
Man the press roll at 0:55.. AMAZING! Such a tasteful groove, love your playing!
Lugwig drums always sound so awesome. Very crisp snare and great tone on the toms
The aluminum Supra models have that “perfect” balance. They may sound boring compared to other drums but it has that tone that blends in with songs so well
I don't need Spotify anymore. This is it. All I need. All I wanna listen to.
Oh cmon man.
Max Sansalone is tight.
@@godislove8740 max is funk personified.. highest level boss of groove.
Smooth as butter!
This snare is really well tuned and sounds good. I’ve heard other drummers even famous ones play this same drum with bad out of whack tuning and it sounds bad.
@@godislove8740 These two and Jost Nickel I'd say are my faves at the moment.. oh and add Chris Dave :)
I know this clip is a snare drum demo... But, that ‘tom’ interval is perfect.
Sounds like maybe a major 3rd or a perfect 4th. Fantastic sound
That Bassdrum Sound 🤤
Every kit he plays, the bass drum is enormous sounding.
Bass drum love!! Lol
Frank Spikes I know
@@t.sewell1513 This one is very massive and thuddy sounding though. I prefer it to the "ringy" jazz style bass drums
Dr.Vader#the official _dr it sounds brutal in my car

The tuning on those drums is impeccable.
This man out here giving free groove lessons. Love your work
Carter just makes me want to practice.....A lot.
1:37 "The Wanton Song"?
You're amazing.
Si è quella...
definitely
The most musical drummer on the planet... Love this guy’s sound!
I really love how dynamic your playing is! The sound is always superb!
Hey, a little Wanton Song. That was nice. I’ve always thought the 402 was such a great sounding drum. And watching you play is always a lot,of fun. Thanks for the upload Carter🙂
isnt he missing one bass drum in the wanton song though?
Dydux666 i'm pretty sure the bass guitar notes fill in that tonal range to make it sound like there's more kick notes but you could be right
Nice!
Thanks for mentioning it was the Wanton Song. It was driving me nuts 😁
Dydux666 everything is going to be ok
I have playing drums for 35 years and I have always used Ludwig drums. They are the best and your kit sounds amazing.
Me too. on this same Ludwig Rocker kit and I recently purchased a Yamaha kit...Still wont part with my Ludwigs with 24"bass drums
Awesome snare - it's no coincidence that this is the most recorded snare drum in the universe, but man, those toms stole the show. They sound perfect 😍

@@stp8103 i wasnt aware of this guy. I know about Josh Freese, that recorded with loads of bands and artists. I will check Hal Blaine.
That entire kit sounds amazing. The snare is the star of the show for sure. So much versatility. You could use that snare in so many situations.
That medium-low tuning is perfection. Nice job again!
0:16 that sounds familiar
Aiden W it is the pornhub intro
LMAO i was gonna comment that 🤣 step bro 👀
Cody Massad I’m so glad I’m not the only one that caught that
No its mission impossible theme
🤣🤣

Thought I was the only one! It made me smile :)
I bet not many people picked that up
Same. I thought I was the only genius in here. But I'm surrounded by them. Cheers!
When the kick drum kicked in after that first fill I just had to like
It's not about the snare...
But rather about Carter and how
he makes it sound. Yes!
Love it all.
Jp.
No its the snare that gives the sound ! its the playing he does that makes it worth listening too !
my favorite youtube drummer has become this dude who makes videos simply to show me what snares sound like
Kit sounds great. Love the cymbals, especially the 15" hats. Nice chops.
which are they?
The entire kit sounds incredible.
Everything is so clean and smooth! The playing, the drums sound! I keep on droooling on this.
it is supremely satisfying to watch such beautiful instruments played so seemingly effortlessly
Great sounding snare drum! The kit sounds incredible! And as always your remarkable drumming very inspirational!! Thanks
Those Toms with the CS black dots sound amazing too.
The closest I have heard to Bonham's sound without "help" that I have ever come across. Both kick and snare
Ludwig snares are simply the best, they are the most recorded in history for a reason.
Well I have been playing drums for 49 years and I love ludwig snare drums especially extremely well tuned ones I love black dot and silver dot drum heads and I love hearing drummers lay down interesting groves!! You have it all my friend!! Great demo!!
One of the Best sounding snares out there!

THANK YOU. This is my studio tuning reference guide. Such a great resource.
That snare sounds incredible
I LOVE the Supraphonic. It’s just such an iconic snare because of how good it is!
because we know it so well..John Bonham
love the Zeppelin and the drum kit sounds great to.
Wonderful tuning of this drum kit !
CM ITS A BEAUTIFUL THING WHEN A DRUMMER PLAYS EXACTLY HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL!
I keep re-visiting your videos for satisfaction. Thanks.
Your dynamics are incredible
Amazing playing! So tired of people that try to blast and speed their way through a gear demo. You just made it sound friggin AWESOME man
Carter, I think your Bass sound is one of the finest tuneings I've ever heard, and it's always ear excitement for me. Everything sounds great as usual.......... Thanks and Blessings!
so musical, dynamic and fluid. as always. the bonham grooves were stellar. great job as usual.
Beautiful sounds and playing as always
Soundfreak! These Agops are just awesome and drum tuning is perfect! The LM 402 sounds great in all tunings! A sound engeneers dream!
This is one of the closest things I’ve heard to a John Bonham kit other that getting an actual vistalite kit.
Dude I was about to say the same thing imagine having a recording studio with this kit and just sit and cover led Zeppelin songs
Circuit Trainee honestly I’ve never personally played one. I know that’s what Led Zeppelin’s drummer, John Bonham used so I think that’s why it’s such a popular thing. From the videos I’ve watched they do sound very crisp but also have very good resonance with them as well.
You'd need a clapped out, squeaky bass pedal

@Circuit Trainee Bonham records ALL MAPLE LUDWIGS....
Acrylics just for live settings, and they are nothing special
Those black dots sound AMAZING! Love the snare and btw NICE playing!
That Supraphonic yells Bonham with every hit.
What a great piece of workmanship. A classic for sure
I really appreciate the slow groove, the take your time rhythms. Those fast shredders don't have the feel. Thanks!
Genesis Rush depends on who you are listening to
It also depends on the gig.

10-12-13-14-16-22
Sounds fantastic! Not just the snare drum but the whole kit and the performance!
Clear sound like using electronic drum.....amazing....smooth playing
This is how a pro drummer sounds
What a beautiful warm punchy sound. Great drumming too.
I’m not sure if anyone tunes their drums as well ... seriously.
Check out my vids. If I'm not as good, I'm definitely in the same league. :)
You seems to be very humble too.
The mark of the greats.

Keep the vids coming. Ludwig for life haha
Your drumming sounds so clean. Love your feel.
Wow. Just Overhead mics. Great general sound.
for sure? what kind of interesting
The black classic maples sound (and look) extraordinary.

Its played with such feel. Great drummer.
This is so coincidental! I literally just got this drum, with the same skin set-up the other day
The kick drum is mindblowing!
Ludwig Rocker 24"
Hear some led Zeppelin there no doubt.

It's the Millenium model
My word! that whole setup sound incredible . Nice grooves there also Mmmm.
Never cared for the 402, but you make it sound good. 401 fan myself and I only use Ludwig Weather master coated on any of my chrome snares. JMO.
Ludwig need to thank this dude, he probably helped sold many drums with his videos. Suberb playing with tasteful touch
5:16 love it
DaMN that is some tasty playing. And that bass drum is giving me an eargasm. Just subbed
Whatever demo he makes, everyone is commenting about bass drum. About toms. About heads. Cymbals. Lol 😂😂
The whole kit sounds amazing, but that snare is perfect.
Carter is that kind of drummer of which many intermediate drummer thinks ‘ oh I can do that too’ …👇🏽

‘ no you don’t!’ ( me included 😬)
LM402 great drum, the drum set sounds great, the drummer is great, but those hi hats....WOW!😍😍😍
