Matt D'Avella hi I would love to be a minimalist but I’m a teenager, share a bedroom and my family definitely won’t become minimalists. Any tips to at least make a little change in my life? Thx
You’re the first minimalist who has explained it in such a way that it’s made me realise I fill my time with stuff because I find it hard to focus on myself
i personally define minimalism as owning as much stuff as i possibly can. it's not hoarding though, i define that as owning the least amount of stuff possible, and that's ok! 😂
@@AasthaHingar You just have to find your own space among your family. A place to keep clutter free allowing you to do what you want there and nothing else.
Been there. Went to the depriving side of things and now I’m realizing it somewhat did create suffering. Now slowly finding the balance for myself to ensure I’m doing minimalism more suited for me.
I’ve been watching a ton of your videos recently. I’ve always respected minimalism, but only very recently have I really started looking into how I can apply minimalism to my own life. Your videos help to make minimalism seem much more approachable!
I really cried when he talked about the books. I'm a minimalist at heart but somewhere I always felt guilty with having books and art I love and everyone else marie kondoing them away.
on the flipside, books are nothing but fuel for a fire and a fire hazard if you need to escape your home for some reason. ditto for cleaning up a flood or just cleaning in general. when you have less stuff, you have to clean less stuff. that gives you more free time to spend doing what you love which ironically could be reading those books haha. but you can go digital on an iphone or android and not even need a kindle.
if they have value in your life then keep them! it's not about depriving yourself of things that you love instead it is being mindful and aware of what you chose to purchase and bring into your life. Ofc having a kindle or online books may be less clutter and more sustainable but personally I love how books feel and look

They get analyzed, I debate it’s value after 3 weeks and I declutter. Little phone charger cords, phone charger outlets, books ive read through, or thinking you have to keep the coupon paper with the code written on it when you literally just have to take a picture of it and recycle the paper.

I’ve been slowly trying to become more minimalist- but I also don’t like the word. I think “essentialism” is a much better way to describe it! Great video Matt.
Loving your videos. Hint to everyone. If you want to be a minimalist do no buy for a year except for absolute essentials. You'll use up what you have and find it easier to get rid of things...
Find the clothes you love put them in a cupboard and try putting on all the other clothes to see if they fit or if they are past their best.. I do this as and when and it helps me find clothes that fit well and makes getting ready a lot faster. Minimalism can change your life if you let it start by following Marie kondo advice and thinking carefully before buying anything
Had you heard about low time preference and law of marginal utility? They seem like describe the concept of minimalism with accuracy, but 250 years ago. Austrian economists were talking about that repetitively all the time, especially how capitalism, in its natural form, is about savings and intentional decision making, not consumerism, after all capitalism is about capital accumulation, not capital spending.
I started to become a minimalist this 2021, owning more doesn't mean you are fulfilled in life, I think less is more is the new thing. Thanks Matt for being you, you inspired me and a lot of people, today I just clean my room and keep and throw the things that I don't think don't have value in my life. Good day guys. (:
Thank you for making this video. Learning that minimalism doesn't mean trying to survive with as few items as possible dissolves some of the apprehension in moving towards this direction.
Varietygirl1 not specifically, but I do a lot of DIY and how-to’s, and one of my upcoming videos is about keeping it simple and minimal when it comes to renovation.
I’ve been watching your videos like crazy lately and damn you’re an amazing person, and very skilled and talented at filmmaking. Every video I watch is so well put together with the transitions, graphic displays, montages, the music, everything, dope.
I am so glad I found your channel because it really made me reflect on my own values and my purpose of life.Due to my life circumstances it has been very hard for me to separate the difference between looking at my job passionately and seeing it in a materialistic way.I am a preschool teacher in California and teacher's here are so underpaid that it is so hard to keep food on the table and a roof under your head when you have bills and credit cards to pay that it almost feels like you are sinking and sinking rather then improving. For me it contradicts with the idea about finding a job that I am passionate about because the job that I do find passion in is preschool teaching but unfortunately is not making me feel like I can have a stable lifestyle due to how underpaid teachers really are.I am afraid to look at my job in a materialistic way but that's how far this has come.I shouldn't have to worry about how much I should be making every paycheck but rather enjoying my job fully because it is my passion.I have even thought going back to school and getting a Master's Degree but then the question of picking a program that I love or that would make me enough money to live off of. Maybe this all does have to do with every person's mentality and perspective but I came in hope that Minimalism could support a simpler and much more rather radical viewpoint to life and how I can learn through improvement.
I want to shape my messy lifestyle into a minimalist. I always love the idea of minimalism but somehow can't manage to do that, but thanks to your videos I'm motivated more. Thanks for not throwing away the Rock.
"If you don't create your own definition of success someone else will do it for you" What a beautiful statement. Thank you for your videos, for creating content of such good quality
Minimalism has been something I practiced unintentionally for a while. It wasn’t until I watched your documentary on Netflix that I realized I was borderline minimalist. Since then I dove head first into the ideology and taken a minimalist approach to my life. I have been documenting my journey since October on TH-cam and have been blessed to be able to help other people along the way as I grow as a minimalist. To me minimalism is in the eye of the beholder much like beauty.

This was an epic video Matt.. I just watched your documentary on Netflix and will be giving a persuasive speech on minimalism in my public speaking class. Thank you so much for the videos you make and for inspiring me to start including aspects of minimalism in my everyday life.
Essentialism. A life lived in essentiality has the potential to feel great. It is about the focus of appreciation. From personal belongings and their promises to our ego and against our fears, towards attentiveness for sensory impressions.
First off, this video was shot and edited so beautifully and seamlessly. That alone kept me watching. I appreciate how to the point and intentional you are with your video!
I'm pretty sure I'm a minimalist. I've always been pretty poor but, still, I'm pretty sure I could have more stuff than now If I wasn't actively only keeping stuff I really like. I realized that I am, just like my boyfriend, a minimalist when we talked about the size of our future flat. I said 40m² are enough. And he was worried we wouldn't have enough space. Then I told him that all his stuff besides his video game collection fits into one shelf, one desk and one tiny shelf. A minimalist like him will never have trouble with too much stuff.
"how much time are you spending on stuff you don't care about" - really powerful when you think and apply this to social media and thinking of other people's opinions. live your own life. forget what others think. define what makes YOU happy and stick to that definition- do not let others tell you what to do or what should make you happy.
Most recently the book which has had the greatest influence on me is "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo. This book not only got me off my duff to get rid of tons of stuff that was just in the way, it also rekindled my interest in journal keeping. As a result I've discarded thousands of real and virtual items and found that clutter isn't so much the unnecessary stuff lying on my floor, as it is the unnecessary stuff in my mind. After reading this book not only did I get a clean and organized closet, I found the Bullet Journal, started traveling on a regular basis, and started looking at minimalism. That has brought me here. And for that I'm deeply grateful.
Turned in my sociology paper on affluenza and minimalism a week before you uploaded all this valuable information 🙄 However the documentary was a great source for my 9 page term paper.
Ah so close! Thanks, Trey. This was my way of condensing & simplifying the message of the documentary into a nice short TH-cam video for people just getting started out.
Matt D'Avella for sure! Some of the info and clips I recognize. Not fully a minimalist yet but I’ve started to get rid of things that I don’t need. Right now the struggle is getting rid of boxes for camera and audio gear. I feel like I need to keep it but I’m not sure. I would love to see a video about minimalism and how your gear has evolved over time!
My kids are special needs, so unfortunately your king shit attitude won't work. Sometimes controling the environment to were the adult and child feel they can fonction without getting overwhelmed is more effective. I know that this method works for my family as it has in the past, but unfortunately I fell off the wagon as we all can. Thank you for your thoughts, I wish you luck on your journey to happiness.

I have a million shoes I can't seem to get rid of. It sparks joy😂😂😂😂
Me: I'm going to become a minimalist!
*throws out everything except my Dwane the rock johnson picture*
Sofia Velarde hey hey... priorities, man!
You get it.
Matt D'Avella Gay.
Flawless storytelling skills!
He is gifted with words. "A smooth talker" 😉
Omg I'm FINALLY early! Love your work, the minimalism documentary was one of the cementors in me becoming a minimalist
Thanks Jasmine!!! You made it :) Thanks for watching.
I put playback settings speed to 1.25, I feel very efficientism.
Rookie level
1.5x here
always watching on 2x
1:20 the picture of the rock omg I can't ahaha
Lol.
Killer stuff as usual! Totally inspired as I build my channel...
Hey :) I gave you a sub. Hope to see your channel grow
Maxon Mendel thank you!!
An empty house is my dream! But I still need a closet full of clothes. I get real sweaty so I need multiple backup outfits.
ziljin you are my thoughts. Except the sweaty part. Oh and shoes! And hats. And duffel bags. 🤦🏾♂️
@@pimpmyride7278 nice!
I need shelves of books for me
"Living a life with intention" is something I learned from Ryder Carroll, really changed my perspective on a lot of things.
Ryder is an awesome dude.
Hey, Matt hope you read this comment. I would like to thank you for creating these videos, they are cool and gives me the motivation to do my work or what I need to do. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Thanks Matt. Found your channel right before my fiancé and I moved a few months back and it was a huge motivator to help us declutter! I'm also taking a social media break. Love your content!
Zach T. Smith social media break? Why are you here then?
Thanks awesome. Thanks for watching man. Best time to declutter is when you move. I always find random things around my apartment that I'd rather toss then bring with me.
@@alinaaziz3521 I didn't specify when this break was starting, I didn't classify which branches of social media I was taking a break from and quite frankly, I can do what I want. Cheers.
Grateful for your input! Have been working a lot on getting life more simple back at home, Lisbon, Portugal. Wish you all the best. Less is more :::)
Much Love
"If you don't create you own definition of success, someone else will do it for you". He shoots, and he SCOOOOORES! What a quote, I will never forget this.
lmfaooo “don’t touch that” @1:25
Ive always wanted to start a minimalist life style, but then i’d have to get off the couch...
You don't even need to take a first step. Just roll over.
@felicifriin have you read Clutterfree With Kids? I give it a glance every once in a while for pointers

Definitely headed towards being a minimalist !
Dude the writing and the way your videos are filmed are too perfect for this platform !
I just finished watching the documentary you directed on Netflix. Great job👍🏾 Afterwards, I literally cleaned out my dresser drawers down to half of what was in there, and will be donating tomorrow. Thank you
This was an epic video Matt..
Love the colors in this video
What Joshua said in the end with all that "ism" is SO true. Because that was what scared me away at first, but then I realized what this is about!
First off, this video was shot and edited so beautifully and seamlessly. That alone kept me watching. I appreciate how to the point and intentional you are with your video!
I am minimalist. Be cause it helps me to focus on my studies.
I can see that
Thumbs up if you learn so many new things from Matt's videos
I'm a more recent subscriber, I have to say the quality here is just phenomenal 👌👌👌👌👌✨
Becoming a minimalist in terms of my living space cleared my mind so much
I am LOVING this ad free, good quality content. Also loving the casual swearing, fuck the adpocolypse
i like the part you hit her hand and said "dont touch it" i do the same thing when my husband touches my books. hahaha
That joke when Matt entered the room was hilarious 😂
You didn't take away The Rock and the electrifying picture of The Rock. Respect.
Turned in my sociology paper on affluenza and minimalism a week before you uploaded all this valuable information 🙄
However the documentary was a great source for my 9 page term paper.
Omg! The trio again after the film in netflix
"Minimalism should not ever be about depriving yourself of good things, of things that you love."
Seriously Matt... You are just WOW... U changed my Life...Thank you...
No ads. Great content. What a very amazing person you are. I always watch your videos
As my kids trashed my house I realized I lost my minimilist way😔
Hehe good luck getting things in order.
Teach your kids some fucking respect then.
