Love your videos. You are such an eloquent teacher. I use your material a lot in my English lessons when doing pronunciation work with my students. Clear voice, well edited videos, and you are very natural on the camera. Keep up the great work! Hope you feel encouraged today. Thanks chick
Coucou Emma. Thanks so much. Thanks also for your previous words...Off the cuff (by ears?) , bring st to the table ,flat chat /out,off the charts...years ago.Bravo
just loved your examples, they relly came in handy. I'm an english teacher out here in Brazil, and I've been helping out a student of mine with your videos, because he works in an australian company.
Thank you much, cute Emma, my lovely Teacher! These phrases you share in this brilliant lesson are exactly what I've been learning these days, precisely what I desperately need! I learn the British slang (with Lucy, you know her well) and the Aussie slang as well, it's common now for me. Of course, my separate gratitude for the PDF, I always use PDFs if they come along with your videos, truly! Keep up your excellent work, Emma! My kisses for you!🥰
Hai mam, I love ur videos,I recently came Australia, so I need to learn Australian accent from u mam, Thank u so much for beautiful english, I hope ur videos will be more helpful for me, love from Brisbane
I'm an Aussie & am partial to 'chockers' (I spell it that way, not the way you did!) 'Spewing' is a terrific throwback to my 80s teenage years 😁 And of course, who doesn't love 'taking the piss'? 😂
Hey, mate! I actually went back and forth on the spelling of chokkas/checkers 😂 I wonder if the nation would be as divided as we are on parmie/parma?!!! What d’ya reckon?
Thank you for the lesson Ms Emma! Enjoyed learning and practising Australian English 🇦🇺😎 conversation with you. Will continue watching this video more often, as well as download the PDF worksheet provided in the link above for some more practice. I'm really interested and moving to Australia has always been my dream. You are my favourite teacher and you speak beautifully! Have a lovely day 😊❤
This is interesting because I’m from the UK and some of the phrases mean the exact same here like Telly and Taking the Piss but some have different meanings like tight means you’re frugal and cheap not you have a good relationship
This was new to me, It is really unusual than American English as i use in The Philippines. Btw, Telly was the word getting into my head. I mean my favorite word,
Emma I love your channel you really teach English so clearly and easy to remember but I live in Canada and I dont know which phrases and slangs could be mutual. Do you have any recommendations for me to better use your videos?
Very interesting video Emma! I did not know all these Australian slang espressions! It is always useful to learn them. Bikki is a very nice word indeed. Thank you so much.
Oh, this evening I feel under the pump 🤪 I'll have to come back to this video because you pushed me away from my comfort zone 😅 Thank you so much Emma for this interesting lesson 👍
If I've pushed you outside of your comfort zone, I'm happy! That is where real learning happens! If Australian Slang is not essential knowledge for you (as in, you don't live in Australia or talk to Australians often) then it's good to know this slang exists (so you can ask about it when you encounter it) but you don't need to study/remember/use it yourself! Prioritise the English words and phrases that are relevant to you ❤️
Hello dear teacher! Thanks for this spectacular lesson ❤. We should practise a lot and try to use some of these expressions.😊 I like the words sanga, arvo, legend and the expression on the piss. Thanks again 🌹🥰 Also for the PDF❤
This video is useful and really entertaining at the same time! And it's always interesting to watch unique content because no one else can tell us about Australian slang.
Australian slang is quite regional. For example, South Australia and Queensland have different accents and different idioms. Some words such as servo, arvo, brekkie, maccas, and barbie are pretty universal. But 'get your laughing gear around this?" - strange indeed to me (I'm from Adelaide) and we don't day 'sanga' either. "fair suck of the sauce bottle" caused derision of a former Prime Minister who, from Queensland, tried out this expression on national TV. Slang moves with the times and some dates very quickly - dunny, for example.
Ooo Emma i really appreciate for this impressive video 🙏💙 I needed this video to learn Australian accent because I love Australia and i enjoy learning Australian accent You're a lifesaver 🙏🙏💙💙💙💙💙
@@mmmEnglish_Emma I go for Melbourne Storms but I also go for Sydney Roosters. They are playing this Friday. I don't know which team to cheer up. And you, Emma?
Tight, knock off and one for the road are the only ones that are used exactly the same in American slang. Interesting how many of those are unique to Australia.
Dear Madam Teacher Emma, thanks a lot for this marvellous lesson! For example -one of my favourite slang words is : legend ( so nice and cute).I think (my humble opinion),that Australia is great place with great people. I admire YOU and I admire Australians. Do most of these words have a similar etymological origin, i.e., do they typically source from England or America or are they without any external linguistic contamination?
I'm Australian with a British family. I hope Emma answers this, I'd be interested. What I know (which is little) is that some is from UK. We obviously used to have a lot of influence from the UK. Like rhyming slang (when she said...I'm going to hit the frog and toad - which means road) That is very British. Some words (not necessarily slang) are the same as words used in America (but not as many when compared to the UK.) Then Australia has developed (and adapted) their own language as well. I'd love Emma to give us stats and more detailed info on this.
Indians are running toward American Accent.....but i like Australian one because it's sounds so cool to hear....i wish i could speak like Australian..big fan of brett lee
There are so many words for ‘a beer’ in Australia, so it’s hard to choose just one!! - stubbie; tinnie; coldie (or cold one); frothy; the list goes on…
"Taking the piss". I have heard this expression in New Zealand. But in NZ it doesn't mean "being unfair" (at least to my knowledge), it means "to be joking/kidding" or "not being serious".
Australia is a dreamland for me, when I was very young I used to watch an Australian Sci fi Serie called "the girl from tomorrow" it's amazing TV Serie and also it is a land of pretty animals like budgerigar or parakeet birds, parrots, lorikeets, koala and kangaroo. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
