Man, you're such a good teacher I knew every step you'll do just looking at the board state (wouldn't be able to do them, but I got the theory), I'm no technician, I just watch your vids cause I find them relaxing.
I purchased a few of those laptops for our small business and 2 of the 4 that we purchased suffered button failure. I replaced the button myself.....when I opened the laptop and looked at the design I thought to myself: really? HP? This is a good design? They only kept that button model for less than a year....HP obviously had to replace many of them under warranty. Thanks for another great video.

5:48 there is where I thought about whole broken button. Extruded button on the edge is a real design flaw. Also those models must be turning itself on (in bags or backpacks) pretty frequent.
I had one of these for a short time. The laptop itself was actually pretty nice but that button failed on me in only a couple months. Returned the laptop and got a different one. It really is just hot garbage.
@@AgateBrick I avoid HP for these reasons. Never bought an HP computer, though I've fixed many of them. Probably all the fixing is why I'll never buy one.

I have a question: I have an Asus laptop that doesn't turn on with the battery seated but does turn on without it after pressing the power button for 30 seconds. After it turns on once and I place the battery it also turns on with that battery. When I turn the laptop off and try to restart it again, it does nothing and only turns on if I first remove the battery again and hold the power button for so long. The second issue: only the V key on the keyboard doesn't work after replacing the battery with a new one, because we thought it was just a battery issue at first. I subbed and liked, I really like your videos.
Also could you recommend supplies for beginners. I think i definitely need a microscope but i don't have a lot of money, so i just need something good enough for me to be able to fix a hdmi connector.

I've seen you apply solder to the pads without ripping any pads. So could you please explain how to properly do that. I think maybe it's the heat setting. Perhaps i had the heat too high. So what temperature would you recommend for doing that.

Wow that button is badly designed. When you were pressing it the 2 legs that would connect to the pads were taking on some of the force. Seems like it needs more achoring points to the board.

i must say that is a really terrible design for a button... something that is likely to get pushed hard or in some cases frustration when turning it off if it froze or such.
Dont you need to solder the second leg? The button needs to complete the circuit to work?

I assumed the sides are already connecting with the ground pad on the side. I'll confirm this tomorrow. A new board was ordered either way.
I think no need, he just short it from the ground earlier and the laptop is working.

Power button was either designed by a new engineer fresh out of college, or the most evil senior.

why don't they make a conductive glue/paint that can be soldered onto? then you could just paint on new soldering pads.

Judging by the camera's focus abilities, I think it is Sony A6400 or A6600... Wonder if I'm right. :P

i must say that is a really terrible design for a button... something that is likely to get pushed hard or in some cases frustration when turning it off if it froze or such.

Well SSD lifetime is because of its read/write cycle especially for small ram and small SSD size. 7 years is long enough for that era's ssd
