  • We absolutely love to go on adventurous excursions, as part of our travels, and in this video, we do just that. We take part in one of the most unique ways to experience the Panama Canal, a tour of Monkey Island and Gatun Lake!
    Almost everyone who's heard of or read up on the Panama Canals knows of the importance the canals play in global trade and transportation of goods, and the engineering marvel of the elevator locks that make it all possible, but many of you may not know of the wildlife-filled excursions available on this world-renowned body of water.
    In this video we go on a boat tour down the canals, stopping to visit and feed monkeys on Monkey Island, kayak through the Panamanian mangroves of the canals, jump in crocodile-infested waters and so much more.
    If you're looking for a unique way to experience the canals beyond sitting on a boat in the elevator locks, you've come to the right place!
    We hope you enjoy this video as we take you down the Panama Canals, don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!

    Another Disclaimer, after filming our video we had been given the unfortunate news that Maria, Eugene, and the rest of the crew on the floating house had lost a legal battle, that they had been fighting for years, which resulted in them needing to dismantle and move the floating house off the Gatun Lake. We hope to have an update on this unfortunate news, and where they may have moved the house to next, for future adventures. We will remain in contact with them and will definitely be sharing updates as we learn more.

      We definitely enjoyed Panama and the tours there are amazing! They do have some really great tours in Costa Rica as well and it’s an amazing place for sure! We were actually just sick for he majority of our time in Costa Rica unfortunately! Otherwise, we would have probably gotten up to a little more adventurous activities

    We may see birds! But no monkeys! 🙈Jealous! Have to check out some of these things if we make it that far. It would be amazing to go through the Panama Canal on our boat 😃
    Thanks for sharing! Keep it coming. We need some inspiration🙃

      Ah no jealousy should be felt either way! We think whether it's sailing or landlocked travel, the ability to travel with no return date set, is just an amazing way to live life!
      The Canals were really good, strongly recommend it if you guys end up venturing this way!
      We're also looking forward to seeing more of what the crew of Sailing Instead gets up to, keep 'em coming as well!

    Cool video Jess and Kyle. Tell me the truth.....weren't you all scared that a crocodile was going to get ya in those kayaks? ha ha ha ha BTW - Happy belated birthday Jess....may God continue to grant you good health and happiness so you can continue to have fun and see the world. The lake there in the middle of the Panama Canal is pronounced Gatooooooon Lake (Gatun Lake). The lake was totally man-made by the Army Corps of Engineers when they damned the Chagres River. The white-faced little monkeys are known as Capuchin monkeys...they are really cool lil' characters.
    The place technically is called a "Tropical Rainforest". Did you all get a chance to see the Gamboa Rainforest Resort? That place has an awesome multiple level glass atrium where you can look out and see the Gamboa Bridge and the Chagres River where it feeds into the Panama Canal into Gatun Lake.
    BTW - Jess you were a much better steerer of that kayak....Kyle got his kayak pilot's license out of a Cracker Jack box as his little gift. ha ha ha ha-------->GIRL POWER!!!!!!
    God bless you two always.

      Haha this is Kyle right now, and she can definitely handle the kayak better than I can!
      We did see the Gamboa Rainforest resort, didn't stop there, just saw it in passing. But we keep hearing about it, so might have to go check that out as well!

    Visiting Panama next week any tips on what to do?

    • @KyleJess
      @KyleJess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on what side of the country you're heading to and what you're into.
      We would strongly suggest going to Anton Valley (El Valle de Anton), a beautiful mountain town with a bunch of hiking, zip-lining, great restaurants, and more.
      If you're looking for a beach feel, Bocas Del Toro province is pretty amazing, with a big party scene and the crystal blue Caribbean waters. If you want the Caribbean feel, but a bit more tranquilo, look into San Blas, equally as beautiful and not such a big party scene, but a little less connected, so if you need wifi just beware, it might not be as readily available there.
      The canals were amazing and as you probably had seen in the video, we strongly suggest a monkey island & Gatun Lake tour, over just seeing the locks, as there's quite a bit more variety and excitement in those tours.
      Another couple of tours we are very excited to check out, but have yet to take part in; visiting the Emberá people, an indigenous tribe that is very welcoming to tourists, they love to share their culture and way of life, would be such an amazing and unique experience. We are also looking into visiting the island of Taboga, just off of the coast from Panama City, they have ferries you can take for around $25 round trip, they run all throughout the day and are a great way to escape the city for the day.
      If you are going to be in Panama City, Casco Viejo (old town) is an absolute must-see part of the city. So much history, beautiful architecture, and amazing restaurants with all varieties of food, you definitely have to go if you're in the city.
      Now I know that's a big list haha but just wanted to make sure your bases are covered, whatever it is you're into. One last tip, we suggest using the public transit throughout the city and the entire country really. We've been offered "private rides" for $80-100 each way at times and the bus equivalent was $2.50. If you're in the city and have access to the metro, it would be even less, being less than $1 to anywhere in the city, major savings. If you don't have access to the metro, Uber's your best bet.
      Hope that helps, feel free to reach out to us if you have more questions and check out our Facebook page as well, as we will be posting more tips, tricks, etc., and you can always drop us a DM there for deeper conversations.
      Hope this helps, before it turns into a novel, we'll leave it at that :)

    Hey guys! I just came across your channel and watched all your videos... I was wondering where in Canada are you from? And what attracted you guys to Panama?
    I'm also Canadian , from Montreal, and I plan to move to Panama in a few months! Ive visited before and im just so eager to get there already!

    • @KyleJess
      @KyleJess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cindy 👋 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! 🙂 We are actually from Alberta Canada, Calgary area. We are on a journey to see the majority of Central America actually! We were either going to start in Panama and head South to venture across South America, or run up through Central America and back into Mexico. That and Panama just has some amazing sights to see, great culture and the people are just amazing, so that in a nut shell is what drew us to Panama. But we are soon to be showing other countries throughout South America on our channel. So if you're not sure on Panama, and considering other countries in Central America, stay tuned for more! We will point out, we met quite a few nice people from Eastern Canada, specifically Quebec, in the Coronado area. So if you're definitely interested in Panama specifically, we'd suggest checking there out.
