Thank you! Our tour guide told us that a top canal pilot can bring in over $300,000 per year. In that country that makes you a rock star. When we went thru the Miraflores Locks on the Pacific side, our 2 tour ferry boats had to wait until a larger cargo vessel was also ready to use the lock. Since the water is essentially going downhill towards the ocean, it is lost permanently - about 15 million gallons per lock usage. So they weren't going to waste all that water on 2 little passenger ferry boats.
Hi Tscoffey! Wow! That's incredible! We were told that they canal pilots made very good money but had not idea that much! This was such an interesting port! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
Hi Dawn! ❤️ We learned so much from this port and got such a better understanding of how the Panama Canal actually worked! Panama Canal cruise is definitely on our to do list too! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
“The patented Shrek model of winding you around” 😂 why did I see it in my mind from the movie when you said that. I’m now using that quote! I would love to do a Panama Canal cruise one day! It’s on my list! ❤
When we did Panama back in March, did ship excursion boat tour on the lake. We took a 20 person boat right in the canal to the lake right past all those big ships. HIGHLY recommend that excursion. Saw 3 different monkey's, crocodiles, and toucans.
It’s nice to see the Panama Canal again!!! I miss it. Did u guys not take the locks shuttle/bus or walking trail down to the viewing area ground level where that big control tower is at the end/bottom of the locks? It’s nice to see them at same level as you. We walked down the road and back up. It’s like 1000 meters up and down the hill. That nature walk thing was closed when we went in November too.
@@HoffmanHappyTravels you getting ready for your group cruise? We are boarding Wonder this Sunday morning!!!! Wish we could have done the back to back!!! Be on the look out for our hidden ducks!!! We will hide a few the night before we get off!!!
I was looking for a cruise excursion for Panama Canal and found yours. Great job with this video, exactly what I was looking for. How did you find a taxi driver that you felt you could trust and hire him? Thanks for the video!!!
Hi debburr2419! Awesome! So glad this video was helpful! With the taxi drivers, honestly we usually go with our gut in those situations. We look up what we can expect price wise for the ride and if they are in the ballpark of what we researched and they give a descent vibe we go with them. In this situation we didn't know he was going to tour as much as he did for us so that was a bonus! But the best advise I can give is to be clear and making sure all involved are on the same page with the price, time in which you want to be out touring, and where you want to go. Don't feel rushed in making a decision and don't be afraid to ask questions. We hope this helps and you have a great time! Thanks for watching! 🤗🚢❤️
Hi Raymond! Not sure! You could maybe call the cab company and request him but not sure if the do that. Happy New Year! Thanks so much for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
Hi Mark! I’m sorry, I don’t remember exactly. I remember everything together was much less than booking an excursion. Thanks so much for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
Portobello is very close to the locks. It's where all the gold plundered in Peru was stored while awaiting ships that would transport it across the Atlantic to Spain. Also, Fort San Lorenzo, a fort built by the Spaniards to guard the mouth of Chagres River and prevent pirates from gaining access upriver and then overland to Panama City on the Pacific side, is in the area as well. Welsh pirate Henry Morgan (yes, the one on the rum bottle label) overcame this fort and successfully raided Panama City in 1661 and made off with tons of gold, silver, and other goods that were being transported from Peru to Spain via Panama. If you don't want to do the locks, I strongly recommend Fort San Lorenzo or sailing on Gatun Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. You'll get to see super large tankers in action up-close right on the water. And the lake is beautiful.
Hi Luke! I'm sorry I don't remember exactly. But it was about in the range of what we paid the transportation on the other islands we visited on this cruise. Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
It is a pity, that you 'don't remember' taxi prices. So for us, your videos are cool but a bit useless for our goal. we wanna be prepared for the prices in each country. But thanks, it was fun!
Very nice! I'll be doing that!
This is so cool. Thank you for sharing this with us. Panama Canal cruise is one of my cruises to still do. Hope to one day.
Hi Dipa! ❤️ YES! Panama Canal cruise is definitely on our to do list as well! Such a cool area! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢

Very cool, never knew all this about the canal.
Hi John! YES! We learned a lot too! It's very interesting what goes into it to make it all work! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢

We were there the same day! Do you remember what time it was? Because it was so much more crowded for us.
Oh wow that's awesome! We are not early risers so I think we were there in the afternoon. Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
How much did your taxi tour cost, and how long was it. Including this would be great next time.
Hi! I don't remember how much it cost exactly. We will try to remember for next time! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
How can I find that awesome cab driver in three weeks Happy new year doing my homework. Good job.
Hi Raymond! Not sure! You could maybe call the cab company and request him but not sure if the do that. Happy New Year! Thanks so much for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
You may have said this in your video but I'm afraid I didn't pick up on it, but how much did the taxi to and back from the locks cost?
Hi Mark! I’m sorry, I don’t remember exactly. I remember everything together was much less than booking an excursion. Thanks so much for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
I love your backpack where is it from?
Thank you! I got it from Amazon! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢

Thanks for answering @guillermogouldburn763 !
Do you remember how much you paid for your driver. Trying to ballpark what we should negotiate when we are there in January. TIA
