Maybe consider changing to Home Assistant? It’s open source and supports way more systems and devices. You could likely control some of the stuff in your desk in it 👍
It's on my list haha, I ran it temporarily on a mini NAS I built but then purged that instance... Do plan on setting up a raspberry pi or something else to run it as I want to add in my backup power supply that powers the 3D printers and automation of charging through my solar panels on the roof. I have a feeling Home Assistant will end up being a vid on it's own haha.
HA will manage solar panels, I’ve had it running on a PI4 and SSD for years, backs up to my NAS, I would suggest yellow, but I think that will be to simple for you 😂.
I really dislike the "laziness" argument that a lot of people tend to go for when discussing smart home addons and whatnots. Yes, some people do it purely out of laziness, and you know what? That's fine. But for many others, it's not about being "lazy", but the comfort and ease it brings can really make a different in life quality, even for those fully abled.
Great vid! I think you should consider Home Assistant, with it you only need single sytem instead of multiple apps. You can also use it to control the things in your desk, like lights... etc
you can get channels to block light on the sides if you need true blackout. Guess I'm always used to roller blinds having the gap when mounted inside the window frame.
I've seen there is now standalone boards, especially useful for thread networks. How have you found them to perform with matter devices? Last I looked it was beta support
@camshand I'm not sure which standalone boards you're referring to, but I've had success with the ZBT-1 that they make for Home Assistant, and have run a stable thread network on it. Matter is a bigger issue though IMO, as it's not fully developed for all device types. My offer stands if you want a HA Green to play with!
Is that like a Venetian blind for outside? At least in Australia they call the tiltable slat style blinds Venetians. Either way yes, Australian houses, at least new, have horrible weather tolerance design. No requirement for eaves, no double glazed windows, nothing to stop the sun cooking you inside the house haha.
a grand for some smart blinds is obscene. Even if you don't consider that Aliexpress sell matter over thread smart blind motors for 100 bucks. Plus, let's say 80 bucks for some nicer Ikea dumb blinds.
It sounds expensive but as I do the maths in the vid it's on par with the custom made blinds we have in the house plus motors. Of course it's not going to fit everyone's budget, I'm very much DIY with things like blinds, so cutting down an IKEA offering can do the job. However, I don't believe IKEA has the same range of fabrics and mounting options
Got a link to a cheaper option? genuinely want to know somewhere that can ship a custom made blind with a Matter over Thread motor cheaper, as I want to buy some more for outside.

Second this! The only thing you can consistently rely on google to do is scrape your personal data for targeted advertising.

Yeah I'm looking into the switch over, mainly to be able to easily add window sensors so they don't close if the window is open.
Does the state on the matter/app side of things stay in sync if you use the remote?
Ie. Open blind with remote will show open on the app?
very cool i just bought it
Pretty awesome, i like it, great vid :)
So that bedroom is definitely not yours right, its the dogs bedroom i can tell by how chill he's/she's just lying there XD
Haha the boys very much take over the bed 😆 we had to upgrade to a super king mattress as with two of them there no room for us!
Cool vid just started watching it!
whats the point of the blind if its still letting so much light in from the side lul?

I don't know why you don't use "persianas". In Spain every house has "persianas".
