On your analysis of Ludwig, Laurence founded the church, whilst Ludwig led the first hunters. Just pointing it out, because some stickler are going to make a big deal out of it. Other than that, excellent analysis. And the parallel of the moon presence and nyarlathotep was a welcomed surprise. 10/10 agree with the idea of a sequel.

No matter how hard this game seems to you, push through it. Even after playing through Elden Ring and receiving more serotonin in two weeks than most people do in a year, I still prefer Bloodborne due to its Lovecraftian nature.

    • @SystemBD
      @SystemBD ปีที่แล้ว +82

It is not like Elden Ring doesn't have Lovecraftian elements. The Sealed God of Scarlet Rot, the Formless Mother, the Frenzied Flame... Heck! Even the Grace provided by the Greater Will is terrifying, if you think about it (or if you see the Two Fingers, really).
Yet... It is true that the way how Bloodborne slowly reveals it's Eldritch horrors is way more interesting. The subtle revelation about the Amigdalas always being there, on the side of the buildings... And it was you who was not mad enough to see them, is (Chef kiss).

@@SystemBD You are right in a way lol, they definitly inspired from bloodborne in that regard, however because of Marika we loose alot of the Eldrich elements and fears, as a humanoid vassal doesnt really bring you fear and insignifiance like the Great Ones. Also, the greater will does seem to have an agenda, and the greater ones seem to work in more mysterious ways, its just a setting buiid for Eldrich horror, and Elden Ring wasnt built for that, more a classic medieval rpg with elements from Lovecraft, Berserk and Game of thrones (grrm)

What makes Bloodborne stand above FromSoft's other games is how deeply personal it all feels. In making a game about eldritch nightmares, Miyazaki made a story about our own individual fears and how to face them.

    • @TheStraightestWhitest

''What makes Bloodborne stand above FromSoft's other games'' It doesn't. DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring all kicked this game to the curb in user score, awards, sales, and critic score. The presentation is amazing, the setting, NPS and level design makes it so immersive, and I love how you slowly uncover more as you reach the healing church, uncover their secret (Forbidden Woods) find Byrgenwyrth, then BAM turn your entire view on the world upside down, as you realize there are much bigger forces at play, and that the world is truly doomed beyond a "small plague".
Then there's the Great Ones and the Nightmares and how these take form etc... so damn good - could easily warrant a sequel with all the content it allows for, just as much as it shouldn't cuz the lore is perfect as it is.

Bloodborne reignited my love for gaming after having lost interest in it for about 3 or 4 years. Every game I played I felt like my hand was being held. Red Dead 2 was the first game I'd played since 2015, and I was so baffled by the universal acclaim and the enormous fan base it got. Yes it's got amazing visuals and a fantastic storyline but there is no difficulty setting. Shooting even using free aim doesn't feel satisfying. Arthur can literally stand there and take 100 bullets to the face and he won't die. It's a fuckin bore fest of a game. Companies are making games incredibly easy so they can be played by a greater number of people and it literally kills the challenge for people that aren't casuals and want to be challenged and that feeling of being good at something. Was recommended Bloodborne and the other From Software games by a friend, and to play a game that had a combat system that actually required you to have some skill was what got me back into something I no longer gave a shit about. I am eternally grateful to From Software for that. It was a pleasure getting my ass kicked by every boss in this game over and over again.

The concept of the Chalice Dungeons is one of the best parts of the game for me. Not only was it a brilliant move to extend the games life, but it also adds a lot of depth to the lore and world building that extends to the player themselves.
How badass is it to think that we the players, as hunters, explored these dungeons and shared information online about them and documented our findings, to help future hunters (future players) that navigate the dungeons. I like to think the Hunters faction inside the world of Bloodborne would do the same. This kind of meta worldbuilding brings Bloodborne up to masterpiece level for me.

If you go back to Queen Yharnam after killing Wet Nurse, she will bow to you before disappearing. Mergo only exists as a consciousness.
Everything in BB was once human, or at least native to the world. You can see humanoid parts to them all, save perhaps Rom.
An unpopular opinion but what I believe is true, is that the doll is manipulating everything. Not the doll specifically, but whatever is inhabiting it. In the final ending after killing the moon presence, you become an infant moon presence yourself. Who else was in the hunters dream to do that? It’s only you and the doll left. Also a interesting detail about the doll is that the winter lanterns are all versions of the doll with a ball of dead messengers around their heads. Also if you stand near the doll and clip the camera through her head, you’ll find that it is the only NPC in the game with eyes on the inside…
I suggest looking into the Pale Blood Hunt by Redgrave if you want to dive into BB lore.
Lastly, you don’t have to return to the hunters dream to reset an area. Use a bold hunters mark to return to the last lamp and the area will be reset.

    • @WhiteManOnCampus

Personally, I don't think the doll was manipulating everything. It's an out-there theory, but I think the doll is what remains of Oedon. When Mergo was stillborn, reality stuttered and ripped, and I believe that Flora somehow captured Oedon. Later, to form a staging ground from which to by-proxy attack the other Great Ones, Flora used Oedon to give life to the doll. At the end, it's just you and the doll, and Oedon finally has a surrogate child.

It won't thanks to its fanboys. They praised this 24fps anti-player design, blood gem farming double loading screen simulator as perfect, leading From/Sony to never patch it and leave it in its beyond broken state. Sony only ports games that represent them well. Ultra smooth, good looking games with solid storytelling and gameplay such as God of War, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, soon The Last Of Us, etc. They do not want this trash to represent them. If it had been fixed, maybe. But Bloodborne cultists effectively killed their own Messiah with their incessant praising of a broken product.

I have to point out that is Laurence who was an apprentice of Master Willem, it was his skull in the Grand Cathedral and it was him who we see in the flashback talking with Willem.
I too was kinda confused at first between Laurence and Ludwig so I totally understand you.
Ludwig was the founder of the Healing Church Workshop that succeeded Gehrman's Hunter Workshop. He was the former captain of the hunters when they became a direct branch of the Healing Church.
Laurence was the first Vicar, founder and defacto leader of the Healing Church itself after parting ways with Willem deciding to bring the healing blood to the world despite his Master's warning.

Finally, someone else who made the Moon Presence and Nyarlahothep. It was the first thing that came to mind when I first saw the MP.
As for your theory about the old man being The Moon Presence, I don't think that's the case. In the Lovecraft Mythos Nyarlahothep was a cunning and highly intelligent being closer to being a type of satanic archetype at a cosmic level. The Moon Presence in the other hand while having a level of intelligence is clearly more bestial in nature. My take is that It is the embodiment of predation, like the cosmic embodiment of killers and predators wich would make sense since it is the Old One that gives it's powers to the Hunter's Dream and thus makes it possible for the Hunters to kill inhuman beast and other Old ones. And let us remember the the majority of predators in the animal kingdom hunt during the night, wich is ruled by the moon.

I'm a sucker for 'the best stats available', so tend to end up wearing weird mashed up sets in most Souls games in order to squeeze maximum defence into a workable equip load, whereas Bloodborne allowed me to fully just enjoy the variety of options available purely from an aesthetic point of view.
There are some beautiful armours in Elden Ring that I've barely worn beyond just checking them out, because they just don't feel like a 'smart choice' due to stats and such, for example.

Also Laurence and Ludwig both exist within the Hunter's Nightmare as two separate bosses...
Just wanted to throw that out there.

27:38 One thing to note about the Witch of Hemwick: those additional enemies that constantly spawn throughout the fight will ONLY spawn if you have >0 Insight. Yes, when you enter the fight for the first time, you get 1 insight, but if you die, return to the dream and spend it on something (thus returning yourself to 0 insight), then the fight is 100% trivial after that as you only have the witches to deal with and nothing else. And that plays into the lore of the game, where the more insight you have into otherwordly things, the more you see and the harder things get (e.g. the lower your resistance to frenzy). Basically, if you line your brain with eyes (insight), the more horrors you realize are around you, and those horrors can affect you more easily.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing about other people's experience with bloodborne. The game is such a uniquely personal experience, from lore interpretation, which weapons spoke to you(whirligig gang!), to which bosses were challenging. I'm the opposite of you, and found Lugarious to be rather easy while for Ebrietas I just can seem to figure out how to avoid certain attacks like her lunge. Lore-wise, I feel like the whole game is based off of humans trying to ascend to higher beings. Some try it through blood, others through insight, but you are the only one to succeed by using both. And finally, I always thought that the orphan we fight isn't really the orphan, the shadow is the real orphan. What we fight is a manifestation of all the pain, sorrow, and anger that the fishing hamlet feels towards hunters. That's how I see it anyway.

But then Ariana and Yharnam give birth to great ones, so ascension isn't necessary. Next to nothing is known about the history of great ones, that's one of the cool things about the game.

You are very, very wrong lol. It is always weak because it uses you as a puppet to save its child from Mensis doing all the dirty work (that's why the hunter's contract ends up when freeing Mergo), while also sucking all of the blood echoes you channel trhough the doll when levelling up. Its like a giant leach wich feeds on blood and the enemy with the highest blood echoes drop by FAR. As it is highly hinted by:
1- the blood dregs item image showing little moon presenece "babies" on blood of those infected added to the fact that Oedon's medium is Blood and that its worshippers are "inadvertent" (they don't know they carry those little beeings inside their veins wich eventually turns them into blood drunken beasts as a Oedon folmower would all according to item descriptions.).
2- The fact that the official artbook uses Odeon's descrpition on the Moon Presence's image.
3- both "Nameless" Moon Presence and "Formless" Oedon beeing obvious parallels of the same beeing.
4- There are two runes depicting Odeon, Formless Oedon and Oedon Writhe, the second of wich resembles a LOT the Moon Presence in shape.
4- Your contract ends when freeing Mergo/ the MP/Oedon's children, wich appears to be completely formless and exists only in voice, sounds familiar?
All in all i think MP is basically Oedon gaining a physical form through blood sucking everything that is alive to be a complete beeing. That's why it's so weak, its real power is the influence over the blood. Two sides of the same coin, Formless but with name in the waking world and Nameles but with a body on the dreaming world.

    • @insertedgynamehere___969
      @insertedgynamehere___969 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@XxT0kY0DrfTstYlExX I disagree with the notion of the moon presence and Oedon being the same thing.
      1) Nameless and formless are very different things. So I don't really see a parallel.
      2) Oedon has a name and the moon presence has a form.
      3) blood dregs isnt necessarily the moon presence's seed. We don't know which great one those belong to.
One might argue that being a hunter connects us to the moon presence via the dream, but there are only 3 hunters we can connect to the dream:
Eileen the crow, because she explicitly brings up the doll if she kills us (except at the bad ending of her quest line) .
Possibly Djura, he seems to understand that where connected to the dream and the nature of that connection. He possibly went through a red moon as well (source: There's a note in old Yharnam near the dead hunter wearing the charred hunter set that says there was there was a red moon over old Yharnam before and the writer having no other choice but to burn old Yharnam due to the beasts.) This note doesn't mention who hunted the beasts but the charred hunter set being found on that dead hunter I mentioned earlier and the note being within a few metres of him implies he was there and hunted beasts. This along side the hunter, the hunter being guarded by Djura, and also wears the charred hunter set and the gattling gun hunter in the nightmare explicitly connecting them to Djura, calling them Djura's companion in gattling gun item description: you can make an argument that he was there and possibly a "paleblood" Hunter, as Redgrave labels hunters connected to the dream, for that night.
      The 3rd hunter is us.
The rest of the hunters is up in the air.
Yes I know the doll says there were others before us. But that's the just the thing *_before_* us, not currently
      *_with_* us.
On your point about oedon/mp trying to gain form through and being two sides of the same coin:
I agree with them being two sides of the same coin but I have different take on how.
Oedon is heavily associated with quicksilver (aka mercury). His runes only affect quick silver bullets. Along with mercury being technically "formless" in a sense
The Moon presence is heavily associated with the blood.
It's design is very reminiscent of the circulatory system (aka you veins, arteries etc.), and possibly being a leech like you said.
There's an interview with Miyazaki where he was asked about the "behold a paleblood sky" note.
To paraphrase him: he describes the sky (during the Red Moon) as having the same colouration as a body drained of blood.
(It was the design works interview if your curious)
Blood and Quicksilver are the 2 main resources in the game:
Blood for healing and leveling up
Quicksilver for your guns and arcane stuff.
They are combined to make quicksilver bullets (source: quicksilver bullet item description)
So blood is more heavily used as a resource than mercury but mercury is still used.
So the two sides of the coin being blood and mercury.

The remake was great though. A big reason why og demon's souls looked the way that it looked was due to hardware limitations and not for artistic reasons. It's ok to romanticize things sometimes but let's be honest many things were ugly at the og game even for its time, it's the nostalgia that is talking at this point. DS3 is just Bloodborne lite with downgraded gameplay, atmosphere and level design. Sekiro has the better combat, but that's it. And Elden Ring has to be the most overrated From game ever. Just another Dark Souls game (a downgrade imho) but bigger and with little to no redeeming qualities to help it stand out as its own thing. The weaker quality bosses and music isn't helping its cause either.
