I found one in new condition in box at a thrift store with a never used backup camera for .50 cents. 😂 I couldn't believe it worked perfectly. I was just going to use the charging cable for an old Magellan. I love this thing.

That cable should work, but as mentioned in the video there's a cheap cable on Amazon that will power it and enable all the traffic features (I own 3 of them myself). I show a video using it with the 2597 here and it absolutely works with the 2599 th-cam.com/video/vFgqZAgUOjw/w-d-xo.html

After watching your newer release video on the 2699lmthd, I decided to break out my 2599lmthd and use it again on some drives.
You are right, it is lightning fast in route calculations! Almost shockingly so. Definitely a plus there.
An area for improvement is in the traffic display. I was using the “up ahead” traffic feature and it was showing no traffic. After getting caught in traffic a few times I I went to settings and traffic and noticed it was searching for a provider. So it was not receiving traffic signals yet it was telling me “no traffic along my route”. That’s definitely frustrating. It should have a different signal, symbol, or message when it’s not receiving traffic rather than telling you there’s no traffic.
I live in an area that has both regular and hd traffic coverage.
At some point I also went into Apps and traffic. In one of the screens it was showing “searching for update”. So it’s likely I had updated the software and it was searching for the update on traffic while being connected to satellite. That was after quite a long drive already so it didn’t make sense…..would have thought it would have updated prior.
Please don’t tell me there’s no traffic while I’m sitting in bumper to bumper traffic numerous times. I’d much rather have a message “ no traffic signal being received” or “ working on getting traffic signal “. I’m with you that I liked that traffic symbol in an older version where it showed either the green, yellow, or red ring around the round traffic cars symbol depending if there was no traffic, some traffic, or serious traffic on the route. Perhaps something like that with an X through the cars meaning no traffic signal received.
Still, it’s lightning fast. Now that’s it’s traffic is updated MAYBE it’s better. Definitely a good backup gps.

Generally speaking, it's a good idea to run any traffic-capable Garmin model through Garmin Express every 6 months. Sometimes there is a traffic update that is totally separate from a map update. This update is a refreshed hidden list of FM/HD frequencies the Garmin searches through locally for over-the-air traffic updates. If this list isn't updated periodically and a frequency goes dark for whatever reason, the Garmin doesn't know that until the list is updated and will do the "searching for traffic" forever because it thinks certain frequencies are still live when they're not.

Good info to know. This was updated within the past 6 months….believe about 2 months ago.
If I know new maps haven’t been released, I’ll use Garmins web updater for any traffic updates as it’s faster than Garmin Express.

I got super lucky. Picked up a 2699 super clean with charging cord for 47 shipped. I will find a mount & suction cup sometime for it. But could not pass it up. It is weird not having all the alerts though :)

You can enable the traffic stuff with a TA20 cord, GTM36 or GTM60 cord, or do it cheap with this specific USB cable amzn.to/3K1wEhY (Amazon affiliated link). This Arkon mount amzn.to/3LwXuyM (Amazon affiliated link) which I own two of is more than enough to hold the 2699 and has a suction base that is WAY better than the standard Garmin version. I have a 2689 and it holds it just fine - however - you do need to acquire the circular mounting clip. An eBay search for "garmin mounting clip" shows there are a bunch available.
