First things first: thank you Jeff for the great review and some much needed perspective. To everyone offering negative comments and spouting crap about how much ____ was paid off, stop being silly.
Here's the reality. This 1911DS uses the same slide/frame/barrel as the current SA line, and they are excellent for a production gun, WHICH IS WHAT THIS IS. Locally to me they are selling for $1325, a full grand under the optic ready Staccato models. You have hundreds of dollars of headway to improve on this design if you choose. It's a super solid base 2011, and if you've ever owned a 1911/2011...you know you'll modify it, it's only a matter of time. This has a fantastic optics system and uses modern 2011 magazine format/geometry, which is what vaulted Staccato from a temperamental comp gun to a duty gun. Moreover, it has proper slide stop pin hole placement compared to the old STI/Staccato pattern guns.
Is this as nice as a Staccato, or Nighthawk, or an Atlas? Of course not. But you know what? You can afford this one.
Finally, to all the Glock bois complaining about reliability: yes, the prodigy launched with some problems. I would recommend getting familiar with the 1911/2011 platform so you can understand the issues, which in some guns are: tight chambers (not cut to SAAMI spec), bad extractors, disconnector drag, and light springs (really mismatched spring weights between the mainspring and recoil spring). Don't take my word for it, go watch 10-8 performance and Chambers Custom on this. SA will RMA those issues and fix them for you, or you can tinker yourself or have a shop do it. Do not shoot hundreds of rounds to "break it in"--thats not how these guns work and you'll just waste money on ammo and get frustrated. If it has problems, you aren't going to shoot the problems out of the gun. Get it fixed.
Again, thanks for the objectivity here Jeff, looking forward to the 5" content!

I've been happy with my Prodigy 4.25". I ran it for 1 part of a 4 part qualification class (CZ P-01 on the other 3 parts) on Sunday and it ran great. Magazine release is stiff to let the mag drop freely sometimes and as a left-handed user the right-side safety could be wider but those are my only nitpicks.

The p01 is a far superior firearm to any of these 2011’s. They’re fine for range and competitions no way I’d take one over the cz for edc , self defense, shtf.

Glad to see a positive review on the Prodigy. I got one a week ago and it has been running fine. No issues at all for the pistol. I did find that Syntech 115 grain ammo can hang on the feed ramp due to the polymer coating and Flat Nose of the bullet. It feeds and cycles everything else I tried perfectly, including 147 grain Winchester Silvertip hollow points. Accuracy is as fine as any 1911 I have had, very good with the open sights. I look forward to putting a red dot on it. One thing I whole heartedly embrace is the conservative set up Springfield went with on this pistol. I can tune or modify the trigger or anything else I choose to easily and make it more of a custom piece or just run it hard as is. Springfield did a great job overall with this presentation of a double stack 1911 Base gun.

Yeah, the hype is real. I took my Prodigy 4.25" to the range yesterday, along with a couple classic Sigs, and it was no contest. The Prodigy was so ridiculously easy to be accurate with, that I didn't want to shoot anything else. It's going to be lights-out when I put an optic one.
And btw, I've run 600 rounds through it at this point, and other than some 147gr FMJ Fiochhi that it didn't like, it's eaten everything so far. Zero issues.

I just bought this very fine firearm today! I took it straight to the range and shot it. Let me tell you, it's the bomb! I just enjoyed shooting it and it was very accurate with hardly any recoil. I was highly surprised! This gun is hard to come by. If you can get your hands on one, get it! @@rdrgear seems the main issues have been extractor, disconnector, tight chamber and the 8lb recoil spring. All easily fixed for you or anyone with some 2011/1911 hands on experience. Well aside from reaming the chamber. Shouldn’t be difficult for SA to do a bit more QC in those areas. Not unusual for first gen issues with any firearm and 2011s can be finicky already. The frame and slide seems to be solid.

One funny thing I hear all the time is that it’s heavy. I’ve been carrying different firearms for many years. I carry this as my edc and I don’t feel the weight. I defiantly carrying guns that were heavy but this isn’t one of them. Other then that, it’s a sexy gun and happy with my purchase. For EDC, trigger is perfect. Thanks for the video.

You don't have to look at those pistol to find problems, as stated. The first day I shot mine (4.25) it was acceptable til I attempted to feed it hollowpoints then it failed to feed every other round. I had to tap the slide to send it to battery. I had no intentions of fixing a brand new gun outta the box like most purchasers did online. If that's the case i would've gotten another staccato. I sent my DS back to Springfield and within a two week turnaround I got it back. I have the staccato c2 and this gun is almost a duplicate with appearance, and not performance. I've yet to take it back out to the range. The performance list said that they reamed and polished the chamber. I'll know tomorrow when I visit my department's range.

Late to the party picking one up for myself (might be a good thing) but I've heard various numbers on the trigger pull weight. Glad I didn't opt (no pun intended) for the hex included optic. I fell into the trap earlier with the negatives about this firearm and realized I was being foolish with the drama put out there, drama sells so the algorithms push it. This is a $1299 pistol that looks fantastic and operates fantastic within the context. I mean, it's not a $3k-$4k Staccato and to compare the two is apples to oranges HOWEVER, put some more $ into this pistol and it will surely give it a run for its money for still much less.

      @rdrgear  ปีที่แล้ว

The Stacatto pistols I’m sure get some level of trim or polish, for the most part they are hand assembled with Pre-fit parts. When the term “hand fit” is used. It comes from pistol smiths
Who use slightly oversized parts. The smith is then hand fitting the pile of parts to the pistol, fitted parts are things like the slide stop, the hammer, the safety, the beaver tail, back strap mag well etc.
The prodigy is not that. It’s a mass production pistol. And that’s where the savings come in. When Stacatto has a 15-20% hero’s program discount baked into the MSRP of pistol. That only select individuals qualify for. That can deter some consumers and otter don’t care. They just want the brand flex.
Thanks for the comment, @three60crusader hope see you more on the reviews.

You're 450 rounds I am into mine 1300... This thing is trash. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here because you have the 4.25. I have the 5 which has been having more problems but. I had to polish multiple parts on this gun. First day out I FTF'd 90 rounds out of 400 rounds... 2nd day was better... 3rd day was 480 rounds with zero FTF with hours of work polishing... I also sent it back to SA after the 1300 rounds to fix my safety (right side was walking itself out and I had to keep pressing it in) and to work on my mag release (feels like there is sand in there).... Got my pistol back from warranty and it doesnt appear that they did ANYTHING at all to it. Out of the box (after warranty work) within 10 manipulations of the safety it started walking out again. I literally went and bought a staccato the day I got this back from warranty. Springfield customer service absolutely sucks.

That is what contributes to these company’s doing shit like this every time a company does shit like this they should be dragged so they insist on not doing it again rather than us the consumer insisting.

I didn't like the stock rubber ones. Very nice compact gun. I have a local smith looking at the 5" prodigy now to see if the failure to eject/feed issues can be corrected. I asked to have the mags looks at for proper smoothness at the top, the internals to be polished, check the extractor, disconnector as well. I have ordered a stainless full length tool less guide rod with an 11 lb. recoil spring just to see how it works that way too. Haven't given up yet on it. Saying that it’s okay that the Prodigy is not good right out of the gate because STI guns, which were race guns and have since completely rebranded/changed their product line, used to need work done to them is asinine. That would be like someone saying a holster brand who does Safariland mods is still good at said budget price because the holsters RDR Gear used to make before you were RDR Gear, needed some tweaks before they worked well. They either work right out the gate or they don’t. It’s that simple.
