    Ive commented more in this series than any other....you're including the entire process, troubleshooting mistakes and looking for missing tapes, note pads etc. This makes you real to us who follow your channel. We all can more easily identify with looking for something in the shop or fixing a mistake than cutting no dry fit dovetails. Keep filming all please Rob. Jake, your comments and part in all this is also helpful and appreciated. You voice our question or thoughts as Rob works on the project. Thank you both.

    Rob, l like seeing EVERYTHING. I'm a beginner woodworker here in New Jersey, USA. I can cut dovetails, though it takes me forever, and I've made a few pieces of furniture for my house. I've learned so much from watching everything you do. The way you hold your handtools, how you setup your power tools, how you hold the wood while cutting on your tablesaw or squaring on your jointer; it's all a learning experience. Sorry, Jake By the way, I purchased a "Wood os Good" PHP shirt back on 4/17. Can't wait to get it!

    To whom this may apply,
    I’ve been watching since 2016. Not one time I’ve been bored with redundant skill training. The small details are the keys to raising your skill level. I have had the honor of being taught by Rob in his first vet. class. If you get bored with the reps. I challenge you to try to make one dovetail joint start to finish. Starting with sharping any blade, chisel needed. Set planes up. And take a rough board of your choice. Down to a true flat square and parallel dimension. Then cut in half square end and cut the joint. Assemble one time. No dry fits. And have no gaps. If that doesn’t happen. You need to pay attention to the small things that you are looking as a wast of time. Good luck!!
    Marshal Rommel. USMC.

    Yes, we do! At least, I do - want to see every step of everything. That's what sets Robs channel apart from others. Some are clearly rehearsed with loads of outtakes that never get shown, leading people to assume it's a 1-hour job, but it will actually take a day. That's why most people give up!

    You’re a teacher. I watch to learn. Even something as small as learning why you cut off the end that you did is something not everyone might know. Good stuff! Keep it all coming!

  • @beerymr
    @beerymr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Jake spends a lot of time with you, so he may be discounting the reason many of us watch. When you’re doing even a repetitive activity, you are still a teacher at heart; you continue to explain what you’re doing, what you’re worried about, and why you’re doing it the way you do. We’re not watching a cut on the table saw, we’re experiencing your thought process. Please keep the camera running, we’re learning.

    I don’t know how many times you do something, that sounds reasonably simple and straight forward, and i prejudge the simplicity - then after watching you do it... I’ve learned something that I would have never considered or thought about. It’s the subtle things that we take for granted, that sometime make a big difference. Sorry Jake, one vote for seeing everything. -smile-

    Agree with Rob.
    Once had a math professor in college who took a few more points off on an exam then I thought were deserved. When I challenged him taking extra points off when I was so close, he said that when I graduate I will be representing the university and because I did not show all the steps in arriving at my answer, I missed an obvious sign error by skipping steps. Took more points off because I did not bother to show the detail. Good life lesson. Devil is in the details.
    Show the work!

    I said there are no ...Lowe’s and homedepot in the cabinet behind you .
    The feel of my lee Nelson plane watching you I can see why it is so satisfying . If I started the drawer would be 1/8” thick that’s so much fun.

    Great video as always. Yes to both for me - show everything and a day in the life of the shop would be a great idea. I am coming to the website late but have you tired your feeler gauge to see where the tight spots are; i.e. top and sides, when fitting the drawer? I know you have so much more experiences doing this sort of thing but maybe could be an option to us just learning. Sort of like using winding sticks.

  • @andybogart2503
    @andybogart2503 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question! When you eventually slide the solid bottom into the grooves you’ve made on the inside of the front and side pieces, can the drawer’s geometry be affected? I was thinking it might help remove any twist or racking, which could be good, but then again, all the work that goes into fine tuning the fit into the case - is there a danger that the fit will be affected?
