Switching Back To iPhone SE - In this episode, I will share with you what might seem like an odd decision to switch back to iPhone SE! I have some important reasons for this switch, share your take!
I think it makes total sense to use an SE 2022 right now. In a world where phones are becoming heavy bricks, it's refreshing to have a simple and more lightweight phone to use. If you can get past the smaller screen and battery in every other area it is every bit as premium as any other iPhone. Which is very important because despite only having okay battery life, you get wireless charging so that means you can recharge quickly. I've used iPhones since 2016, and I can totally see why Steve Jobs stuck with smaller and less complicated phones that were premium. Because it is overwhelming having tablet sized phones that feel more like a distraction than fun to use as smartphones should be.
I was sitting in a waiting room the other day when an old lady sat beside me and started talking. She said its so sad to see everyone just sits staring aimlessly at their phones nowadays. I slowly lowered my phone into my pocket. Thought about how right she is the rest of that day. I actually felt a little uncomfortable when she started talking because we dont do it anymore. I wish smartphones were never invented. They 100% cause or at least worsen social anxiety.
Spot on Nick. Shifted to the IPhone 13 recently from the SE. My screen time on the SE was 1-1.5 hours on a day. On the 13, this has shot up to 3 hrs avg. I have given my SE to an older relative and seriously regret it now. Plus the oled screen on the 13 is a eye strainer. I’ll need to find other ways to stop wasting time on the phone
I’m thinking of doing the same dude. I have an iPhone 12 and I’m looking to get an iPhone SE 20 or 22. Less is better. I hate how dependent society is on their cell phones, social media, very distracting. I am getting the smaller device to limit usage as well. Plus, I no longer have any social media and don’t need two camera lenses. I’d like to practice using my cell phone less. Thanks for this video dude. In a world of all this tech it’s good to see people who have their heads on straight. Plus, I am super against upgrading to cell phone every year such a waste of money when people still use iPhone 8’s and older models. No need for the newest. America is obsessed with over-consuming in every sense of the word.
@@umarlatiff9595great dude. I lead a simpler life. And the se 3 works great. It’s small, it has the home button (makes me miss the old days), my screen time is limited which lets me do way more in life. I highly recommend it. I use my cell phone less and that was my goal. I just call, text, use gps, some light reading and sometimes YT. I quit socials so, reduced distractions.
Just bought a gently used SE 3 64 gb off of Facebook marketplace for $150. Still has 99% battery health, took my Iphone XR 128 gb in to Best Buy and traded it in for a $150 gift card. I figured I had better get something out of my XR before it stops getting software updates. I'm not a heavy user, I had only used 28 gb of storage in my XR, so wasn't worried about less storage. Very happy with my decision and loving the smaller phone.
Love this Nick!! I switched from my Pixel 7 Pro to an iPhone SE 2020 in May for the same reasons and love it. My P7P was just too nice to use, I was losing around 5 hours a day, compared to under 2 hours on the SE. I miss the camera, but the photos are good enough to have decent memories, so I’ll live with it. Keep up the good work!!
@@umarlatiff9595battery life is bad, I bought the morphie power station mini 5000mah that gets me through the day of heavy usage on my SE. I only switch on low power mode at 20% battery if I cannot charge. I only charge from 20% to 80% multiple times with a final charge before bed to 100% once a day, unplug charger when fully charged. Whenever possible remove phone case when charging, battery stays a lot! cooler.
Same moves here, from pixel 6 to iPhone SE and no regret at all. Though iPhone se battery could be better but it’s not an issue with it as I am using ipad for media consumption so my SE last through the day. Overall great performance in terms of performance stability and form factor, however I still preferred the pixel in terms of photos especially portrait shots and for the video I preferred iPhone SE. I am tired of my Pixel because of it’s size that won’t fit to my small bag
@@markjunemaribojoc4832 Yeah the camera is the only thing I really miss, but I'm used to this now. The size was just too annoying, I love my SE and have no interest in changing it anytime soon. I have an iPad too and use that for consumption, which is far better than a phone anyway, so it's a win for me.
I'm currently looking to move on from my trusty old iPhone 8 Plus, which has a cracked screen and a 'significantly degraded' battery, and I was considering an iPhone 15 Pro or even a Pro Max, but having given my head a wobble I realised spending £1000+ on a smartphone is insane. I considered getting a refurbished iPhone 13, but I really don't like the notch, the rounded screen corners, and the lack of Home button. This obsession with 'bezelless' design is beyond me. So the iPhone SE 2022 might be the best option for a new phone - and the fact it has the same chip as the iPhone 13 and so will be supported for just as long is good, and 5G is a bonus. I'm just not sure about that smaller display, but like you I want to try reduce my screen time. The only other issue to me is the camera quality, though it's no worse than the iPhone 8 Plus, which I've always been pretty pleased.
I switched from my 14 pro to the SE 3rd gen to limit distractions too. Recently started school again and the small screen is not very "fun" and if you throw it in black and white. Oh man, I get so much done. It's nice to be able to take a break while still enjoying the iPhone.
Came here to say that I have my iPhone SE 2022 and bought it just for the purpose of "decompressing". It's a great "back up" iPhone should something happen with my bigger phone. Also, It's a throwback to the first iPhone I ever bought (iPhone 4), which I still have in storage😭! I have enjoyed the simplicity of this phone. Phone cases are abundant so I've been able to customize it to my liking. Because the apps are so much smaller, it's not (at times) enjoyable to scroll social media. Because of that, I've been able to regain focus in my life. Also, I can stay within the Apple ecosystem. I'm extremely satisfied❤! Great video!
I like it. Doing the same, switching from 13 Pro to this. Not worried about battery life since I am always at home and also hoping it helps me to cut back on overall usage.
I have a 15 pro and just got this phone to take a break from a big screen and just too much time on my phone. I love how light it is and comfortable to hold, I love it 💕
I got an iPhone SE for cheap and tbh it is a really good secondary when you're in a pinch. Would say that running it as a primary phone might be a stretch in most cases if you use your phone for more than 4 hours a day, but the upscaled chipset really allows it to be more versatile than it looks for a budget phone.
Gave my 14PM to my son and briefly had the regular 14 and now the se3 i think im good. I hated the weight if the 14pm while working. I like to swap phones so the esim was out. No deals on the 13's so i ended up with the se and i have to admit that i really like this phone. Rounded corners and can reach corner to corner on the screen. I think ill stick with this for awhile. Great video
This is the last iPhone in the way Steve Jobs wanted it. Still a phone, still a messaging device and a web browser. He didn't live to the point where every smartphone is a giant phablet with more power than laptop computers and nothing but distractions. Last phone to have fingerprint home button, last phone without oled screen, last phone under 5" screen, last phone to be in the form factor with bezels in the factor that Jobs wanted.
I have an iphone SE 2022 and the iphone 14 pro . I use the iphone SE to now detox and it helps so much. The features on certain apps are weird cause its so small. Makes u not even want to be on the app lol. I feel alot better not on the phone
This is the best video review done for the iPhone SE 3. The iPhone SE 3 is designed for those looking for less screen time and Touch ID users. I downgraded from iPhone 14 Plus 512.
I have the 14 plus right now and I wanna “downgrade” to this phone. Just worried about the battery life. Can you get all day usage? People are making it sound like it lasts maybe 4 hrs out of the day
I'm just switching from iPhone 15 base model to iPhone SE 2022 because I love its compact form and also the chip is still reliable due to this day. Not a single regret at all
honestly its like this video was made just for me! I want an iphone i can use, not an iphone that uses me! Thank you for being you, for this self aware consumer review :)
You do correct on the reduction of distraction. I am a low key phone user so I’m already on my phone less. I love the SE. I have it in black. My battery lasts all day. No socials, no games for me. Just call, texts, light browsing and gps and YT. I love being on my phone less and less and living in the real world.
Thank you. I needed to see this video. Solidifies my decision to buy and switch from the S23 Ultra. I too am a TH-cam binge watcher. And all those videos talk about Screen On Time. All that means for the most part. How long you spend looking at your phone for that charge period. Almost cancelled my purchase. Then I saw this. Thanks again
Brilliant video Nick. Without injecting your own subjectivity, I think you did a really great job of looking at the pros and cons of the iPhone SE 3, and drill down to the critical aspects of why the phone would be useful to certain people, and highlighted it’s unique stand out feature, even among the other iPhones, as being a minimalist tool that in a lot of ways increases your productivity. Apple is very deliberate in the products they choose to sell, there are many reasons they sell the iPhone SE 3. Another fantastic review, and I think we all appreciate your thoughtful reviews. Thanks!
Thank you for your feedback! I try to give a deep analysis that goes beyond a basic review! I am glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your feedback ! Have a great weekend
I have the SE 3rd generation. I am really enjoying it. The size is perfect for me. The home button keeps me from jumping from one thing to another all day long.
i think it would be cool if the se 4th generation would go back to the iPhone 5 look or the 1st se with the black boxed lines in the back with the square body, for the looks and for apple to be able to fit more into the phone. it would also be cool to make it have 2 cameras in the back instead of 1 kind of like how the iPhone 8 plus has it.
Great video. I have been thinking about tech minimalism, and down grading to a light phone 2, I have tried turning my iPhone into a dumb phone but it hasn't stuck for one reason or another. Then my iP 11 has started to slow down and give me trouble. I can't afford iP 15 or any iP costing greater than $500. So I am considering the iP SE 2022. I think you made a good point. I need the iP SE 3rd gen.
I'm still using my iPhone 8. I was about to upgrade to a iPhone 13 or a Pixel 8, but then thought I'd try to squeeze as much as possible out of my 8. It was in perfect condition with the exception of the battery and a beat up case. I replaced both and now have a phone that should be good to go for another year or two.
I've just done exactly that myself. I much prefer the smaller size and the home button. Battery life will be less but good when not constantly using the phone all the time like many so nowadays
I happily traded my iPhone 13 Pro in for an iPhone 13 mini before Apple stopped selling them…so happy to have a smaller and lighter phone. I will try to keep my mini as long as possible. I see your point on the se but I still like the swiping and am happy with the mini
I really miss the older phones and just bought se3 and ready to see how it goes. I miss the look of it. Home button was great and the bezels never bothered me. Starting to look at how silly it is to waste so much money on newer phones that haven’t wowed me in years now. I’m going old school.
I just switched from 13 pro max to the se 3rd gen. I was tired of the big heavy phone. So I switched so far im happy with my choice dont miss the 3 pro max. This se does all i need it to.
honestly the only reason people hate this phone is the home button. everyone I know calls it a iPhone 6 because it uses the old design. What's ironic about them saying all that is that its actually more powerful than their iPhone 12, but they just say im lying lol. also why did I buy AirPods Max and then buy a budget iPhone.
Good commentary on the iPhone SE 3. Just got one early black Friday for 49 bucks new. Because it has the button I don't compulsively swipe and close all apps, I let 'em ride for a while. Just upgraded to iOS 17.1.1. A little small, but a good screen and pretty fast. (For those that are wondering, ST at Walmart 'till 11/26).
I was thinking of upgrading to the iPhone 15 from my 11 pro. But my 11 pro works great. With its slightly smaller 5.8" screen and its curved sides it fits perfectly in my hand. It's good for x2 portraits. And I in addition to phone calls and messages, I use it for my daily calendar which isn't so much a distraction as a necessity. I have an application that turns off the ringer for a set period of time when I don't want distractions, plus I can schedule the focus in advance for when I.know I'll be busy.
Came to this video thinking I would disagree but the points are good. Personally I'm happy with my 13 Pro but I'd be lying to myself if I didn't think it was distracting.
Im actually feeling the same way as of now, getting 10h on screen on my A52 and i always wanted to try iphone ,so i would want to try out the SE 3❤ As a student i get very distracted and unable to get my work done.
I have the iPhone 15 pro and it’s my favorite iPhone yet as far as build quality. The titanium sides feel incredible but I generally think all of the iPhones so far have looked really good.
Speaking of th iPhone SE 2022 3rd Generation, I got it 2 weeks ago, I got the color of the blood which is red woohoo. I love the color of it. I like that it is budget friendly, I got it on a promotion through a carrier. I got the 64GB
I sold my iPhone 15 pro max for 800,original paid 950 for it brand new five months ago.I purchased an iPhone SE 3rd gen open box new for 150.Also purchased an iPad mini 6 open box new for 300 and also purchased apple buds pro 2 for 150 brand new,and an Apple Watch SE 44mm brand new for 200.That’s the 800 gone but look what I have for my money a full kit.
As for the topic of this video, Nick, I'm also overwhelmed with the modern smartphone experience. I remember times, when I had a Symbian 9.3 Nokia in Russia and wished I could use the GPS navigation properly, cause Nokia Maps was shit. Now after using all those "tiktoks and instagrams" I quit it. It's too much. Nowadays, in Russia we use WhatsApp Status to share the moments from your life with "the chosen ones" ( you can show your Status to those you choose). I overuse TH-cam lately with Shorts taking the majority of the time (fuqin TikTok). I just can't watch long videos anymore. I guess it's a some sort of a psychological problem. Soooo ... I tried iPhone 13 vut I found iOS shit. So I switched back to my Pixel 5a. And it's a breeze of fresh air. I think your idea of switching to a smaller screen phone is not bad. But you have to either disable TH-cam app for good or just limits its up time. Tired of typing. Cheers!
I have the iPhone se2 and my screen time was the same as if I had a pro max. I'm basically saying you have to control ur smartphone usage. It's just a tool how we use it differentiates us from casual and obsessive users. God bless you all
Saluti dall’Italia 😁💪🏼
To reduce screen time on good phones - 1 Mayke it black and white in settings, 2 keep night shift on and set to max orange tint, 3 keep low power on AT ALL TIMES to slow it down
I am honestly thinking of going back to Apple, and getting this SE. I am also thinking of giving up smartwatches and getting a couple decent cheap watches.
Do it. Smart watches are just add to the digital distraction. I got rid of mine and bought a nice citizen eco drive which does only what a watch is supposed to do. Tell time lol
If someone’s a heavy user and wants to cut down on screen time, a smaller battery that needs to be charged more can theoretically help cut down on screen time.
I can answer this question, I chose the iPhone SE 3 for gaming ON PURPOSE. For many reasons : - LCD screen : OLED looks fantastic, but for long gaming sessions I'll always choose LCD, because it will not have burn-ins. - Low resolution display : you don't realize how much this is important for mobile gaming. SE 3, thanks to its 750p display actually performs better than my friend's iPhone 15 Plus. Despite only having the A15 4 GPU cores (A16 in the 15 Plus). - Personal take, I hate notches, this is the only current iPhone without a hole / notch in it. - 16/9 display : when I plug my SE 3 to my TV, it does have very minimal black bars compared to all other iPhones. - PCB design : The SE 3 use the iPhone 8 motherboard as it's base, which is good. All new iPhones use sandwich style PCB, and the SoC is stuck between the two layers, trapping the heat inside the motherboard, stupid design made by Apple. iPhone SE still have no cooling solution to speak of, but at least, the SoC is not enclosed between two layers of PCB. Which means better heat dissipation by default. - And lastly, it's refreshing to have a device that is easy to hold, lightweight. Personally I had the choice between iPhone SE 3 and iPad Mini 6. But for the additional performance made possible by the low resolution screen, the better aspect ratio for TV use, I'm 100% sure I made the right choice. Yes the screen is fairly small but it's only a bit smaller than the top screen of a 3DS XL, which I was fine with few years ago, and I'm still fine with it today.
My technique to help with phone addiction/content addiction, at least for iOS users.. use the focus modes. They help tremendously when set up appropriately.
I use focus mode . But it’s easy to ignore the time or adjust it . But it does give you time to think do I really want to extend the time limit originally set
This can be a phone for us women to get them to weddings. A phone that fits in any clutch, or it’s phone for any social occasion, you go to have lunch with your friends or the movies, if you are going out with your friends and having a great you honestly barely use your phone, maybe only if it’s two ( you and one friend and she says ohh I’m going to the restroom you check your phone for a few minutes. So this could be our social time phone lol 🤣.
13 Mini is nice but it's more fun to use and I'm more hooked to it, as a distraction-free phone, the iPhone SE is more boring which is the point of my switch

Some really good points Nick, but also remember this is a very important model as the only way for us 10% who can’t use OLED to access a NEW iPhone.

Thanks again
i recently sold my iPhone 13 and go back to my se2, not regretting it
The old school look of iPhone 😍
Classic
I just went back to the iPhone SE. missed the home button and hated the Face ID always taking selfies
I used to have the 7 and I miss how light it was and am also thinking of switching to the SE soon
The best thing about SE3 is the beautiful LCD display, way better than my 15 Pro. I get tired easily when I use 15 pro my eyes hurt.
I have an iphone 13. But the SE does look cool. A couple years ago the touch ID would be good to have
i think it would be cool if the se 4th generation would go back to the iPhone 5 look or the 1st se with the black boxed lines in the back with the square body, for the looks and for apple to be able to fit more into the phone. it would also be cool to make it have 2 cameras in the back instead of 1 kind of like how the iPhone 8 plus has it.
You will love the SE 3.
Nice points Nick! Was thinking of doing the same thing. How do you switch now that they don’t have SIM cards? Currently using a 14P.
E sim is easy to transfer between iphones through the cellular section!
I'm still using my iPhone 8. I was about to upgrade to a iPhone 13 or a Pixel 8, but then thought I'd try to squeeze as much as possible out of my 8. It was in perfect condition with the exception of the battery and a beat up case. I replaced both and now have a phone that should be good to go for another year or two.
avevo un iphone 12 pro e sono passato ad iphone se 2022 e sono super felice perchè è meglio in tutto e molto pratico e comodo versione 256gb rosso
Switched from the 7 plus to the SE in 2020 and could not be happier! Unless you're a photographer, you dont need to spend $1200 on a smart phone
Watchin this video on the 6"7 13PM 🙃 Big up Nick. Diggin the idea. Thanks for all the videos on both channels x
Thanks so much! Glad you're liking the video! Appreciate you!
I switched back to my 6a after selling my 14 pro max. I love it
I have an iPhone 11 and want to upgrade to SE 2022 already have it, now I am wondering if it is a good thing to do so
I've just done exactly that myself. I much prefer the smaller size and the home button. Battery life will be less but good when not constantly using the phone all the time like many so nowadays
I’m waiting to get my iPhone SE 3gen is it good
I happily traded my iPhone 13 Pro in for an iPhone 13 mini before Apple stopped selling them…so happy to have a smaller and lighter phone. I will try to keep my mini as long as possible. I see your point on the se but I still like the swiping and am happy with the mini
Still using my iPhone 7 since 2016. Thinking of switching to the SE 2022!
I really like the home button, much prefer it to face id
I have an application that turns off the ringer for a set period of time when I don't want distractions, plus I can schedule the focus in advance for when I.know I'll be busy.
iPhone SE it’s great but the battery life sucks. I have to always to just watch aTH-cam vid with the charger on.
Came to this video thinking I would disagree but the points are good. Personally I'm happy with my 13 Pro but I'd be lying to myself if I didn't think it was distracting.
I'm still rocking the iPhone SE I primarily use it for music audiobooks and a little bit of TH-cam. I really don't play games on it.
Im actually feeling the same way as of now, getting 10h on screen on my A52 and i always wanted to try iphone ,so i would want to try out the SE 3❤ As a student i get very distracted and unable to get my work done.
I have been using my iPhone 14 in purple almost a year. I still have the SE(2) in white as a back up towards the 14.
I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max & I’m considering switching to iPhone SE
From iPhone 13 to iphone se 2022, I fell happy. Gaving iphone 13 to my Dad cause he needs bigger screen, since I don't need, I've got the iPad mini5.
Excellent point of view 👍👍👍
God bless you all
Nice video & topic Nick 👍
Thanks so much!
Where can I get that wall paper?
I still have the original iPhone SE, the one like the iPhone 5. Maybe I’ll switch to that for a while, I could cut back on my screen time as well.
Where can I get that wallpaper?
Watching this from my SE 2nd gen
❤️🔥FIRST ONE
I ABSOLUTELY THINK NICK ACKERMAN IS ONE OF THE BEST TECH TH-camRS OUT THERE🔥❤️
Keep Up The GREAT/AWESOME Content❗️.
Thank you so much for your support!
iPhone SE GEN three is epic.
Bro i love your videos its quality amazing i want an i phone
For the smartest. This phone is a legend
@@theorgazoid4918 been looking at getting a Casio for work, and a nice watch for everyday wear.
I'd get one of these to replace my 11.
Bad battery? I think that's relative. If you're a heavy user and gamer.. then yes. But if yes to both, why would you get an SE?
If someone’s a heavy user and wants to cut down on screen time, a smaller battery that needs to be charged more can theoretically help cut down on screen time.
I can answer this question, I chose the iPhone SE 3 for gaming ON PURPOSE.
For many reasons :
- LCD screen : OLED looks fantastic, but for long gaming sessions I'll always choose LCD, because it will not have burn-ins.
Thanks for sharing, that's a great tip, I use focus modes but I am going to set them up a little more in detail! Thanks for the tip!
I use focus mode . But it’s easy to ignore the time or adjust it . But it does give you time to think do I really want to extend the time limit originally set
Great video
The wallpaper reminds me of old iPhones
Yup old school haha
I think it has amazing battery life i may get another one
Does it last you all day?
Hello Nick do u have a problem switching from a 120 hz to a 60 hz screen like i event cant watch a 60 hz screen anymore its so much bad to watch
All latest iPhone 15 model same 60hz.. what r you trying to share apple 🍎 cheating customer
First world problems. A screen is a screen.
Agree same here
im doing this omg!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if the iPhone SE 3 a15 chip will make it into 2030 with that home button design?
That would be interesting to see, I don't think so!
Gen 4 is supposed to eliminate the home button and the bezels with a bigger screen and a bigger battery.
I have the SE back from 2020 but Imma upgrade to the 13 soon cuz my battery life at 78% 🤦🏾♂
78% damn my se 2 got 93% & still sucks!
How much Screen on time do u get with that?
you can replace the battery
i just bought mine
Buy a used iphone 7 and get even less distraction. It still runs pretty smooth but not enough to go crazy.
For Android users, go for the galaxy s9 or the s8 due to bad battery life and slowness including no new updates (sorry to say)
You should make a video about how you found the perfect wife
u from Chicago
Can i get this in 2023 ?
Yes it is still avaliable
Ip 13 mini is epic
Why not 13 Mini?
Just to earn more views from curious viewers.
13 Mini is nice but it's more fun to use and I'm more hooked to it, as a distraction-free phone, the iPhone SE is more boring which is the point of my switch
New and more vids please u upload here very slowly… lol
This is currently my hobby channel, it's still in development! Stay tuned :)
