I want to take a moment to address a point of two that I've seen raised in the comment section: "What if Khamzat beats Whittaker/stays unbeaten?" As I said, I don't think that is far fetched. I can see Chimaev beating Rob. I can see him winning the title, even. The issue for Khamzat has been and will continue to be, consistency. Any time he gets a win and builds some momentum, he runs into some setback that kills said momentum. Khamzat could beat Rob, then get injured, get sick again, miss weight again or run in any number of unforeseen issues that keep him from fighting. Next thing you know, its been another year and he hasn't fought, and the momentum has come to a halt. To me, that is the overarching issue with Khamzat's career. For as good as he is as a fighter, he has stopped being "must see TV" because you can't be sure you'll actually see him. He's too unreliable. Beating Rob doesn't change that. It doesn't answer most of the questions we have about him. It doesn't prove that he has solved any of his problems, that he can compete more than once a year or be a consistent force in the middleweight division. Until he can string together multiple wins without any issues in between, I think the hypetrain will remain derailed. As far as what he can do to improve his situation... well we don't know because his inner circle is keeping everything pretty quiet. The main issue seems to be not training hard when he gets sick, but as we'd heard from a few different sources, it seems like he gets sick rather easily. So a vicious cycle begins.

I don't understand why people act surprised when we are all familiar with Khamzat's obsessive training regimen and what seems to be his coaches' incompetence in stopping him from training excessively. Of course he catches colds very easily and of course he got anihilated by covid - his immune system is battling to recover from one grueling training session after another.

Jumping in quickly to say (but will watch in entirely later), your art is fantastic. And in this YT era of caps-locked thumbnails, this is a breath of fresh air. Love the speedpaint.
Hey beige. Love the titles for each segment of your video lolol I will say this when a fighter has more questions about their health, training, abilities, and legacy, more then definites clearly that's an issue
By now he probably can't back out of his relationship with Kadyrov after receiving so many gifts and favours. I doubt he was coerced down this Edilov path though, more likely willingly bought. Ankalaev also trains at FCA, he doesn't have the same kind of entanglements with Kadyrov and he's able to fight in US cards at least as recently as January of this year. If I'm right about Khamzat being willingly bought, tbh I can't judge him considering he was living in poverty all his life and Sweden won't even give him citizenship.
@@BeigeFrequency Ankalaev and Said being FCA fighters who apparently aren't sanctioned from fighting in the US leads me to believe it's more so a Persephone eating the pomegranate seeds sort of deal. However, I have no direct proof of this and you could absolutely be right that from day 1, it was "Eat the pomegranate seeds or your family disappears". Given that he was living in poverty, I can't judge him too harshly even if he could say no without repercussion. If it's between eating the pomegranate seeds or starving, that's not a real choice. It's certainly possible that Ankalaev and Said had more options to stay relatively insulated from Kadryrov being from Dagestan as opposed as Chechnya. They both also have smaller name value than Khamzat despite Ank having gotten closer to a title
You probably get this a lot, but I love that you draw while doing your commentry. It's something I usually don't see. It puts a whole new spin on commentary channels.
Hey Beige, how did you get into drawing? Been a fan since the JG stuff and youve really improved. Im interested but I am straight up trash. Did you ever try with pencils and those type of implements, or was it always digital?
As a swede I was REALLY rooting for Khamzat, maybe even more than I was at the beginning of Alex Gustafssons career. But him befriending Kadyrov so publicly was what put me over the edge. The trash talk without follow up I could rationalize with him being ill and still trying to make fights and put on a persona despite his body just giving up on him. That is not unreasonable, just not very likeable. But actually making friends with Kadyrov. That just seems unforgivable as a lover of having rights and so on.
Man, if you want to make a video about Kadyrov and need a Russian speaking guy, who can also speak English and hsd quite intimate knowledge of the history of Chechnya and its current situation, I am here.
he has a chance to re-rail it if he gets a statement win over Whittaker this weekend. love both guys but sort of rooting for Khamzat after everything he has been through
It's a step in the right direction, but we've seen Chimaev do this a number of times already. To really get back on track, he needs at least 2 wins with no issues in between. That's the only way to build the hype back up.
great video. I would be super interested to see a follow up now but not because khamzat won or because of how he won. but I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the development of "measured Chimaev". I'm not sure if you'd agree or disagree, but I would argue that the calm and more level headed approach fans observed and memed on Khamzat for in the leadup to the fight carried into the octagon with him despite him securing the first round finish. He was not making a mad dash for Rob the moment the bell rang, despite still aggressively closing distance. The takedown was much less explosive than a lot of his opening techniques in previous contests. While he floats on top of Whitaker throughout the round he is landing offense, but hardly enough to consider the round as clear of a 10-8 as the Usman first round was as it seemed very clear he was focused on managing his gas tank in a way not necessarily seen from him in previous contests. Again, maybe you disagree, but I did think we may have seen a new version of Khamzat this weekend and it's not just shock from how easily he dispatched of rob that I say that
I want to take a moment to address a point of two that I've seen raised in the comment section:

@@MrC9Oh3 The video never said or implied that Khamzats skills were overhyped. It's about how he came in like a beast, then became incredibly unreliable and inactive, which caused his hype to be diminished. It's the first thing he says, which means people either didnt watch the video or have severe comprehension issues. Which isn't an insult at all, it's just a fact. Hey beige. Love the titles for each segment of your video lolol
I will say this when a fighter has more questions about their health, training, abilities, and legacy, more then definites clearly that's an issue
He's an armed robber
Kadyrov isn’t a gentleman you simply say “no thanks”.
Sadly, I don't think Khamzat ever had an option to say "no" to Kadyrov.

That just seems unforgivable as a lover of having rights and so on.

great video.
