How many of my friends have fed their families off of what she caught is amazing in its own right. One of the most storied fishing vessels on the East Coast of the United States.
That was my uncles boat. He built it in Alabama and owned it for over 40 years. I worked with him and my dad on it for almost 4 years my uncle joe rose named it after my aunt sue rose. He sold it about 5 years ago to a company in r.i and now she's where she is. She has been in this family a long time and it's sad to see where it's at now. It holds a great sentimental value in this family it really sucks to see it like this
@Slingbld my dad first worked on the capt rose with my uncle and bickle his father before joe built the capt rose. Them my dad went on to run the tweetles and Donna for 30 years.
My boat was same size and lost with fire in 1984. She lays in 20m of water in the north sea about 30 miles off flamborough head. Stern trawler with 860hp cat
Our vessel was the Heidi/Kristi out of Jerusalem Harbor, Point Judith RI. . Originally name Venus, she was built in Plymouth Mass she was an 76 foot wood trawler eastern rig .. She collided with a ferry on her maiden voyage and sunk in the bay. Raised and refitted she earned a good living up to the late 80s when she again sunk off RI due to a broken valve. Lovely vessel to work on and solid sea faring even in a storm . Miss my day of being a ship mate on a trawler . Thanks .
Why was it lifted out of its watery grave? Was foul play suspected? Or was it a navigational hazard? Seems like a lot of money spent on a boat that is more than likely just scrap?
@ I had to do a google search on that fishing vessel. I’m not familiar with the back story, that was never revealed. I live in Connecticut far enough away from the disaster. Once I read about the whole story that the crew let the boat ground itself on the beach. Then being pulled out & subsequently sinking in only 50 feet of water. I knew right away that part of the structure would be very close to the surface of the water. Then I answered my own question that the boat would indeed be considered scrap & sold off by the pound. That the insurance company was going to be on the hook for everything. The next question would be about the crew. I know they were rescued. They might be on the hook with the owner of the company for the eventual destruction of the boat? I wouldn’t want be on the crew during their exit interview. Then being black balled forever for allowing that to happen?
@@bradmagnuson6963 They’d be very lucky if that is all they lost? They might be on the hook for any all expenses incurred by the owner of the vessel beyond what insurance allows & any & all increases in insurance premiums. They’d be lucky if all they had left after that would be their dignity. Sleeping without someone on watch is perilous especially in congested waters of the northeast. They could have struck a boat out fishing or someone else on their boat also taking it easy. Very stupid in my book. They could have killed someone? They’re lucky it was only property damage?
That's impressive, makes me wonder what shape the Andrea Gail is currently in, that was the boat from the Perfect Storm very similar to this one, has never been found but if it ever is I doubt that it could be saved this one got lucky
It would have been really interesting to see it coming up out of the water with the crane. I'm wondering if there is any chance of this being rebuilt or at least parts being reused or is it just scrap, since it looks repairable and quite complete overall ?
It's strange to see all of that sand there along the jetty. I haven't been there in years but that spot was my favorite surf spot and now it's gone. When did that happen?
Refurbished, salvaging a sunken boat for scarp wouldn't make any sense. It would cost more to raise it then the scrap steel is worth. If they weren't planning or rebuilding her they would have just left it on the bottom. The only exception is when the wreck is blocking a channel or a hazard to navigation then the CG will probably make you remove the wreck.
@@jerseyshorefireresponse Yea, don't dare make it available to someone who has the ability to repair and restore it and make a living for his family. What ever happened to salvaging and reusing things. Its a shame that we have become a ;to quick to throw away; society. Its still intact, SAVE IT!!!
Shoulda left it on the bottom. That boat is un seaworthy. The reason it rolled is because it had no water or fuel or ice onboard and it became unstable and as soon as they floated it it rolled.
Navigational hazard that's why she was raised she's going to be stripped down to just bare metal and taken out and turned into a reef. She was in 50 ft of water, there was no way she should have been left on bottom where she sank.
What was the importance of doing this?? Why go to all this trouble to simply remove just another sunken boat, I'm confused here? Are they trying to destroy the owner by charging him with environmental crimes and they're gonna give him the bill for doing this??
For one it wasn’t properly sunk, still had diesel in it and wasn’t sunk in about 50ft of water. It’s been a Navigational hazard for a year at low tide the beam was only 18 feet under the surface level of the ocean. There was multiple other issues with the Boat being on the ground as it didn’t sink as they wanted to. They will clean the boat and properly re-sync it off the coast in a safe spot to make an artificial reef.
