  • A story watched by millions. Candy Duncan, a caregiver from the UK contacted Wellness Travels this year for what looked to be a routine hip replacement surgery in Gijos Klinikos. Sure, the surgery itself went more than well - we take pride in being able to collaborate with Gijos Klinikos and one of their orthopaedic surgeons - Linas Zeniauskas. But other than the surgery Itself - Candy's story is not ordinary - as she traveled to Lithuania not exactly alone. Candy was gracious enough to give an interview not only to ITV but to us as well!

    Love your outlook!
I’ve been waiting now for 17 months since seeing my surgeon and all those feelings you talk about are spot on! Constant pain grinds you down and makes you a not very pleasant person I’m afraid to say!😢
Go Candy, I hope to get my spirit back like you have! Thanks for sharing!👏👏👏👍😊❤️

Wish i had known about this clinic. Im on day8 post op and worried. I just started with one crutch and wonder if thats too much cos i felt on the hip leg movement like it poping in and out or maybe the horrendous swelling going down i dont know what i experienced n its scary. Yet i see candy doing amazing and in good hands , im pretty fit normally but wonder if im pushing myself too hard. I would have loved having the rehab at your clinic. And more people need to see your work ethic commitment and astounding results. Hope i dont need another hip but good to know about you if i do. Thank you candy your experience is so encouraging, hope you are doing good 1 year on. Blessings

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're very sorry to hear about your concerns and the challenges you're facing post-surgery. Surgery can indeed be a daunting experience, and it's completely understandable to have worries during your recovery.
It's really important to consult with your local specialists who can provide you with the personalized care you need. They have the advantage of being able to examine you in person, review your X-rays, and thoroughly understand your specific situation. It's difficult and irresponsible for us to comment accurately without seeing the full picture.
That being said, we wish you all the best in your recovery. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, please remember that we are here to help. We hope you continue to make progress and feel better each day.
Thank you for your kind words about our clinic, and we wish you a smooth and swift recovery

It’s interesting that they had that much exercise from the beginning.
    She did great!

It really depends on the patient, but the physiotherapist comes 6 hours after the surgery and asks the patient to try to stand up! This might sound a bit nuts, but moving (with professional care) is recommended very soon after

I'm on day 3, after total right hip replacement anterior.
I went home the same day..
Day 2 was the worst, but it's better today. I can definitely see improvement.
There is some swelling and tightness.
I'm only taking acetaminophen, I'm not taking the narcotics.
Just follow instructions you wont have any problems except a little discomfort that you can manage with pain meds, etc..
A leg lifter strap to help getting in and out of bed, a toilet seat riser and a shower chair or riser are essential. And of course you'll need to use a walker for about a week to keep from falling.
However, I have been able to walk unaided from day 1.
If you have any questions, I will answer.

It's not an easy decision, but in our experience - the patients start a whole new chapter in their lives - the quality of it changes dramatically!

Don’t believe everything in this video
The reality of a hip replacement and recovery is a much slower and painful process than she describes. She must be super woman or not a real patient. Speaking from experience…..

Hi, Chris! Thank you for your comment. We can assure you that Candy's story is very real - it was even featured on ITV's 'Tonight,' and you can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/s10-8l8cYF8/w-d-xo.html. Every single patient is really different - during their hip replacement journey, thousands of factors play their own role: physical activity before the hip replacement, overall health, the right physiotherapy afterwards (!!!), and so on. We have many patient stories, and some of them heal slower, while others heal faster. We cannot show every single aspect, as the video would be very long. However, at Gijos Klinikos, we take everything very seriously - it's hard work and team effort which if done correctly, can perform almost miracles in the end.
