I feel like many of us early Tesla owners really enjoy the camaraderie chatting with other Tesla owners at super chargers. Early on every charge stop was like a cars and coffee get together.
Yep, totally agree. My wife and I did 8000 mile cross country trip in our 2012 MS in 2014 and it was epoch to interact with other MS owners and interested folks at Supercharging stops Things have changed now but those early days were very exciting!
Same. Love a good supercharger chat. Unfortunately we had the opportunity for an hour long chat while we waited to charge in an unusual charge line recently. Wilcox AZ is in a zone of 150 KW chargers in the sparsely populated SW region of the country. Would love if if they would put some 250KW chargers at each site, just a few, at each of the 150 KW locations. At one point the line was 15 cars deep. 😱
That was no longer the case when I bought my m3. I think Dutch people are are also a bit more private and I bought it during Covid but I've never seen the social gatherings I've seen on TH-cam.
I know putting your road trip TH-cam video together is a pain in the rear end, but just a quick note to say thank you, your efforts are truly appreciated. Well done and a great road trip. Hope your holiday was awesome. Regards Séamus Dublin Ireland.
I have two girls - and what i explain to people is, if you have kids the supercharging doesn't add to the trip because you're stopping either way. And don't worry, even when they are teenagers they want to stop!
Great video. It's interesting to see how the Cybertruck road trips! I think you're right about the battery usage estimates...it still seems that Tesla is still fine tuning it.
Have been at that stop in Findlay a few times and you are 100% correct! 😂 You would think our Tesla community are all from Mars! Keep up the great work!
Honestly, I’ve become so reliant on autopilot, I don’t know if I could do a long drive like this without it, even with TACC. I hope it comes to the CT soon! Does it still have lane assist though if you start to drift even without autopilot?
You might find a Megaphone fitted to your CyberTruck handy, it beats shouting trying to be heard! I've enjoyed your road trip and the other drivers all seemed to like the CyberTruck too! Many thanks for sharing.
I still can not believe you got a cybertruck. You must be getting used to it now. I’ve seen about 4 on the roads driving around and each time it is so exciting to see them.
Just for squits and giggles, I plugged in my 2016 Nissan Leaf to ABRP to see what this trip would look like. Leaf has a 30 kwh battery, but mine has 30% degradation so I have just over 20 kwh useable. The trip would take 44 charging stops, 24 hours worth of charging, and take a total of 59 hours lol. Some of those charging stops require the use of Level 2 since not enough Chademo chargers can be strung together on the route
Hello, thanks for the videos.... road trips are entertaining and informative. Quick question, does the Cybertruck come w/ any free supercharging at all??? Thanks.
26:00 I usually get a hotel around a supercharger and leave the cars plugged on the supercharger overnight. Most of the time it's less than 50% busy so no Idle fees.
You should do a full tour around the entire US, talking to people at supermarkets, chargers etc. Tesla should pay you to do that. Put QR code in the windows with links to your TH-cam channel and your referral link, and it will pay off with even more subscribers and points.
I don't let the Tesla plan my route or charging stops. I select charging stops to ensure V3 and for amenities, i.e., food stops as needed and our preferred hotels. I have the entire trip planned before I leave home, averaging 2 hours between charge/meal/hotel stops. At hotel stops, I drop the family off at the hotel and let them get settled in as I go off to charge for the next days first leg.
Interesting to see that someone is actually following what the Tesla navigation recommends for the superchargers. For me it's waaay too conservative. I always end up skipping 1 or 2 chargers. Especially if I'm having lunch.
Chris the 16 stall is really close to me I could almost walk there. What route did you go from ripely wv to Worthington superchargers. You always cut off that portion of the trip. We need a Kyle Connor 2 or 3 parter. Have you watched race to San Diego .go parts 1 and 2. part 3 today hopefully before 2pm
I'm pretty sure my Model Y headlights come on with the wipers. It's a great idea because 18 states have laws that require headlights if your wipers are on.
How soon will restaurants along the highway install superchargers in their parking lots to entice people to park there and eat? IMHO the last annoyance is parking and then walking to a nearby eatery. You had good weather, but what if its August and its hot or raining hard?
We have not done a large family road trip in the Y, just the X and Cybertruck, and so far Cybertruck is our favorite (compared to legacy and refresh X)
Great video. I think you should ask Tesla to reimburse you for your entire trip. You were a commercial for them every time you stopped, and occasionally even while driving down the highway. I was wondering if your phantom braking could be caused by dirty cameras? I think your comment about being like zoo animals was your best line on the trip.
Have you ever gotten stuck in a large traffic jam? I’d be worried, especially if close to the end of a leg, that I’d run out of charge if sitting on the road not moving at all for an hr or more. It happens sometimes on I-95 especially.
We did in this video for a bit. At that tunnel it was 0mph for around 20min. In hindsight it's not that long, but at minute 10 you don't know if there's 10min or 3 hours until you move. The nice part about an EV is it uses an extremely small amount of energy when parked depending on the conditions. Search my channel for frozen traffic jam. But I'll say in 5+ years of ev driving I've never ran out of charge.
Alongside EVs not really using much power when stationary, with Teslas you also tend to have quite a buffer below 0% battery. Out Of Spec recently did a video on running a bunch of EV trucks (including cybertruck) all the way until they completely died on the side of the highway, and even after hitting 0%, the cybertruck still went about 10 more miles.
On long trips, folks don't realize how mentally exhausting it is to constantly be paying attention to small lane deviations and how physically exhausting it is to be making small steering adjustments. Autopilot is a life-saver in this regard.
After the mention of the clip of Kyle getting out of Buc-ee's in their EV truck cross-country race, this part 2 almost felt like Out Of Spec style, similar to all their EV long distance road trip races.
Indeed disappointing charging cost. One of the reasons to get an EV is not to be gauged by high fuel prices. But this is a long debate and not the point to drag on. Great video as always. I had to speed it up as 1 hour is a bit long. Greetings from the Great White North.
Having to stop and charge every now and then vs driving for 3-4 hours is a much more sane way to travel. It is also less physically and mentally exhausting. Same goes for the insane compulsion to "drive straight through" for 20-24 hours vs one or more over-nights at a comfortable hotel.

Can Target just be put out of business!? I've maybe been in a Target once - and even better I wasn't the one spending any money. If I were to stop to charge and the only place at the location was a Target then I'd just wait in my vehicle. I had to chuckle when your one lil girl said she was going to buy herself something ... with your money! 🤣 Although I've not had an EV, at least yet... Just Tesla, I'd have to say a great starter vehicle would be the 3. Small family, a 3, Y or S. A lil bigger family, Y or X. A lil bigger yet family, Cybertruck. My own personal preference has changed. I'd get the 3 as my first EV as per cost unless I could afford more. If I could afford more then it'd be the Y or the Cybertruck. I recently thought of this question I wanted to ask you, Chris... Does the bed cover also lock when you lock the vehicle? It makes sense that it would especially because those buttons are right there.
