  • In this video, I unbox and give my first impressions of the Lochby Tool Roll which was sent me to me free of charge by Chris at Lochby. All opinions in this video are my own! This is a beautiful waxed canvas tool roll made from the same material and colors as the Lochby Field Journal (A5) and the Lochby Pocket Journal! It has multiple pen slots and places to keep notebooks, water colors, and misc. items! It has a rugged metal buckle which is adjustable and has 4 closure slots to choose from as well.
    The tool roll sells for $39 and is available here:
    www.lochby.com...
    This tool roll has multiple uses - I can already think of several - your imagination is the only limit!
    Big thanks and appreciation to Chris at Lochby for sending me this Tool Roll - what a generous surprise! It is a beautiful addition to my fountain pen hobby and I really appreciate it!
    Thank you for watching!

    That's nice that your husband can share your passion with you.

      Yes it is ... he loves pens and stationery items too but he hasn't found a fountain pen he can write with due to his left handed writing style. I always have to check with him before ordering from Jet Pens because he likes their array of pens and pencils.

    I am glad Chris at Lochby gave this to you. You are deserving.
    It makes me know that he is a good person and makes it more likely to buy more.
    I already planned to get the field journal. Now I will give the tool roll a good look. I
    love the A5 cover.

    Chris, I love the idea of waxed canvas as material for our kind of gear. I seriously considered getting the pocket journal when it came out, but I ultimately went back to using my passport travelers notebook. Thanks for sharing how Manuel is using his pocket journal...that's brilliant! I never would have thought a checkbook would have fit so perfectly.

      Hi Cathy - yes I too was surprised the checks and register (well they are making those registers super think and cheap these days lol) fit in so good. He's really happy as he HATES check book covers! He says he never has room for his pen or stamps or anything. Of course he didn't want a nice one like I have for mine which has slots for everything :).

    I just received my Field Journal and the Tool Roll from Lochby and wowza! You were not kidding! I actually love the TR a lot more than I thought I would, and I finally have a place to carry my fountain pens with me all around my home instead of just using them at my desk or boxing the ones not inked. Now I can ink more of them! Super, super happy. Thanks so much for your reviews. Have a happy Friday! :)

      Hi Annie -- yes that's true like black & Khaki & maybe green. I also think it may need to be 1/2 inch or so taller to accommodate Tombows and certain pencils. But I love it anyway!

      Hi Sharon - it's 1/2" shy of holding a Tombow Dual Marker - I just found that out. But it sure fits fountain pens nicely!!!! Even Parallels.

      Hi Andrea - you are very welcome! My daily carry is a Nock Sinclair pen case which holds several fountain pens for easy access - but this one is great for many functions and I think everyone should have at least one pen roll! I have a video where I sewed one from a quilted placemat from the department store.

    I really like the waxed fabric so this has been on my list for a while. They’re still out of stock as far as I know but I’ll be ordering one once they return. Glad to see they appreciate how much you do for the pen and ink community - well deserved!

      Thank you Sue! I hope they restock them. I gave one to my son for his birthday ... I just love the rugged build of these and the color and everything about them. My son does a lot of artwork I knew he'd love it. I use my Lochby Field Journal and Pocket Journal daily! They hold up so well!!! :)

    The notebook is too stiff to roll it up. You can move the notebook to the other end to "roll" it up better. I've got mine stuffed pretty much too.

    Some people on Facebook wrote that some other manufacturer's pen case's elastic bands were staining their pens 😮 I think it was Galen leather. I never thought such thing could happen. I wonder how common this can be. How is the elastic Lochby uses?

    • @ChrisSaenz13
      @ChrisSaenz13  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrea - oh yikes. I have only ever used Rickshaw and Monteverde pen roll/cases and have had no issues with either of those with any of my pens. The pen holder on the Lochby Field Journal has given me no troubles either and seems like good quality elastic as does the elastic in this Tool Roll. Hmm I would think that one would want to be careful with vintage and delicate fountain pens ... of course most of my pens are Lamy and TWSBI and Jinhao's.

    You remind me of me so much! I can spend hours trying out different configurations of items in various pockets and storage slots, trying to find what's right for me.
    Really hoping the guys at Lochby can start shipping to the UK again soon.

    Really nice review. I just ordered me a custom rickshaw bags 12 pen roll with red on the outside & black on the inside, with the tag writing in red because of your reviews. I already have the 6 pen roll in the tie dye ink splatters but that is already full so I wanted a bigger custom one. Plus I have 5 more fountain pens on the way. I ordered all of the TWSBI go’s in broad because of your reviews as well because we seem to have the same taste when it comes to fountain pens. I also was finally able to get my 2nd TWSBI 580ALR in nickel grey. Do you know the difference between the 580ALR & the 580AL?

    • @ChrisSaenz13
      @ChrisSaenz13  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference between the 2 - 580s = the ALR has the silver/aluminum section & the 580 AL you can see in to the feed area better and it's plastic -- for looking at things like that I love to go here: www.twsbi.com/collections/frontpage/products/twsbi-diamond-580-clear-fountain-pen
      Oh Richshaw pen rolls, sleeves and everything they make basically ... I just love their stuff! Hope you enjoy the 12 pen roll!

    Thanks for the mini review! I liked seeing the tall pen. What kind of pen is it? I’m wondering if my Tombow brush pens will fit...

    • @ChrisSaenz13
      @ChrisSaenz13  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Yvonne - the tall lime green capped pen is a Pilot Parallel. I checked just now and the Tombow Dual Brush markers are just about 1/2 inch too tall for this roll.

    • @YvonneRaphaelWriter

      Chris Saenz thanks for measuring Chris! I really appreciate it. Guess I’ll have to plan otherwise for my Tombows. I’ll be getting a tool roll too though!
