This is similar to other ‘travelers ‘ notebooks. I have a small Midori leather book. Paid way too much for it ,but that’s because it was very popular a few years ago. Thanks so much Teoh.

I use multiliners and watercolor in my tomoe river notebook all the time...watercolor does not act the same as on watercolor paper of course, but the paper handles it remarkably well for quick sketches, and it creates a lovely crinkly texture once dry. :)

I dont think you are suppose to put the notebook on all the band, I think you only uses one band for one book since it's kinda similar to Traveler's Notebook system.. with the back pocket and the elastic band, it should able hold up to 5 notebooks in there.

You're correct Calvin! We make different refill formats (dot grid, plain, ruled) to keep the Field Journal modular. You can comfortably fit 6 refills (4 in the elastic, 1 in the rear flap, 1 in the front flap). I keep four in mine: two dot grid for journaling/designing, one ruled for note-taking, and one blank for sketching/painting.

Came here to say the same thing. There are a lot of specialized refills to go with Lochby's, also. Googling for Traveler's, or more fully Midori Traveler's, refills will bring them up.

Thanks for the review. Prepare to have your mind blown! There is an amazing community of folks who watercolor on Tomoe River paper - check out James Burke; Ali Brown; Job's Journal and many others who work in in their Traveler's Notebook - me included.

I use Tomoe River paper all the time to sketch and watercolor. Light wash. I use it for an art journal. Thoughts and art.

So tempting, especially the larger cover! My husband just groaned:-). Could you compare working with this toolkit with the Expeditionary toolkit and the Etchr? Hope you and your family are doing well.

Would a iPad mini fit in the left side? With an A5 sketchbook on the right?

    • @lochby
      @lochby 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes! iPad mini or Kindle will fit on the left. Our refills are A5, so any A5 sketchbook will fit on the right 👍

On the large cover, it would have been nice if they added a horizontal pocket so it could hold landscape sketchbooks as well. Thanks for the review Teoh.

Yeah, those elastics are similar to traveler's notebooks - usually you use one elastic per notebook. I'm not a fan of the system, I much prefer sliding one or both of my covers into long pockets on the back or front covers, but they can still be useful for adding folders and zipper pouches to the notebook system.

The Few Journal would be perfect if it had a zipper closing. As it is, it can't protect against rain, which defeats the purpose of a field journal.

Those bands are there to hold individual notebooks. 1 band for 1 book. The band does not get in the way.

  • @OkieSketcher1949

I think the two bands in the larger covers is to hold your book in place. Use the left band over the inside of the top cover and the band on the right side to go over the back cover. I do not believe you need to use those bands to hold down your drawing sheets. Try it and see how that works.

They’re actually for the Midori style books so you can add several of those thin books in dfferent styles. I have a cheap version that I use for a special journal.

I could use something like that toolwrap. But I don't like the design of the one you show, too bulky, a ridiculously oversized closing hook, and imo rather overpriced.
I don't think those sketchbook covers are practical
