Love seeing these videos but also hate that there are some people who just don't care or pay attention to the Big Boy leaving, Stand back at least 25 feet or so so we don't have another 844 situation. Great video tho
its crazy to me that the crowd of people think they can ignore trespassing. as though the steam engine means trespassing laws no longer exist or that the effect of the train hitting them would be different. where are police in these moments? i just dont understand how people can think that is right.
I think the main issue here was more that people thought the train was doing a whistle stop at Truckee, but due to some unexpected delays up on the pass, they didn’t have time to and weren’t able inform people in a timely manner. But you’re right, even if the train was stopping here, it doesn’t excuse standing in the middle of the crossing as a freight train could come along unexpectedly still.

I saw the Capitol Corridor race the freight train while I was awaiting big boy’s departure!
