    Dude!!! I love how you explained the sdi set-up and breakdown without making users feel like idiots for having made the error. There's a couple of influencers who damn near shamed people for making the mistake. Thank you... says a lot about you and the goal for your channel.

    I found this review really informative and very helpful in getting a sense of the camera and how it could relate to different working scenarios. Well rounded. Especially good to hear about the advantages of the global shutter, and see some good examples in reference to that. I find rolling shutter on cameras I have used is a limiting factor that always needs to be kept in mind.

    THANK YOU! Finally someone talks clearly about what projects and what use cases this camera excels at, so that we can make an informed decision without renting and testing for days ourselves. I would love to have the red r3d image, but the camera doesnt fit my workflow unfortunately. Looking forward to videos on gear that you think is worthy for a review!

    Had many of the same doubts as you did, but I absolutely love my komodo and find it far more useful and enjoyable now, than when I purchased it in April. Red Control is the shit.

    Nice work! Been enjoying the Komodo for about 6 months as well. The internal ND filter, lack of hdmi, and 3.5mm mic was less a big deal for me considering the price.

    • @MacOlink

      Like I said in the video, it really depends on the use case of the camera. The lack of those features isn’t a huge deal for me either when I choose to use the Komodo on projects. If I need all those features, I just use my FX6!

    Great video! How did you find switching from Sony to the Komodo with lenses? Did you try and adapt your sony lenses or just bite the bullet and buy new lenses for it?

  • @Bruets
    @Bruets 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In your sample footage did you use any filters/diffusers? The softness and highlight roll off this camera gives is like nothing I’ve seen at this price point. I absolutely hate the digital look my Sony a7siii gives even with a diffusion filter. However I heavily rely on auto focus so this camera just doesn’t fit my workflow. Are there any other cameras similar, with auto focus that you could recommend? (If there is any)

    • @MacOlink
      @MacOlink  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only used diffusion with the Sigma 18-35, 1/8th BPM. The Komodo keeps getting firmware updates and they always improve the AF. Might be an option!

    How does fx6 fare compared to komodo in terms of only image quality ?

    • @MacOlink
      @MacOlink  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion, the Komodo has better image quality. Really is preference though. FX6 is great, 16 bit raw from Komodo is just a little better.

    • @urvishchaudhari94
      @urvishchaudhari94 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MacOlink Yea, guessed so.
      Btw how much practical size in GB per min for 16 bit raw recording ?
      And how long practically one battery would last considering paird with mobile for all time or with an external monitor ?

    You're losing resolution and detail when you shoot 2.4:1 and then crop to 16:9. Just coz it's still 4k doesn't mean we aren't losing anything. By Shooting 2.4 to 1 and cropping to 16:9 we're discarding more than half of the sensor which already is super 35 to begin with.
    Also, Komodo is a big boy now? Really? I'm a Komodo owner myself but I'm tired with the self-validation surrounding this camera on youtube. It got the same dynamic range and rolloff of highend Sony mirrorless...aka FX3/A1 etc.
    Komodo was made with one goal. For bigger projects using RED to continue using Red's codec while using crash cams and thus makimg post production a little bit easier. But it found home in youtubers and us wannabes who want to claim ourselves proud red owners. With that going on, its hard to be objective about it. It's great but its par for course for what that kind of money offers in the current market. That being said, the gap between what this price range offers and actual big boys is diminishing fast (ignoring just launched Arri Alexa 35 which widened it big time again)

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Komodo was *initially* made as a crash cam but then was marketed as an affordable b-cam and even A-cam. Jared Land has even said it himself. Not to mention RED’s marketing videos showed it used in a production environment.
      Also, sure you’re getting dynamic range on your Sony but you’re not getting the advantage of the R3D workflow and global shutter.
      Also not sure where you went to school but your math is way off on the 2.4:1 to 16:9 cropping claim that he’s losing “half” the resolution. Personally, I shoot open gate as much as possible on the Komodo and frame for the final destination aspect ratio but to say someone is losing “half” the resolution is misinformation.
      One final note on your FX3 claim. We work with RED footage (gemini, V-Raptor, Komodo), Sony footage (a7siii, fx3 etc) footage all the time and I’m sorry, the Sony’s can’t touch the footage coming out of the REDs, even the Komodo.
      Pretty sure Mac, an avid Sony user who owns an FX6, FX3, a7siii and a7iv knows what’s up. 😂

    Hello friend, I liked your opinion about the komodo and the decision. I am now looking for a film camera since I want to change cameras. I have had to record a Nikon dslr for my short films, the problem is that the videos come out a lot of noise, the photography, well. I really like the color editing and the theme of the photography and the color of the narration. I am hesitant and clear before spending the money on a camera that I regret. At first I had thought of the bmcc 2.5k because of the color it has or the bmpcc4k since it is a good camera with good image quality. But the red cameras I like that organic and clean color that I look for in a camera for me, and then for my stories of my videos I would be satisfied. I think I'm thinking of buying a komodo that will last me a long time for my projects and although I can afford to buy the camera by buying the important accessories to make it work for production and little by little I'm adding more accessories. Spending 6,505 on the komodo for the quality for my projects is worth getting a high range and I'm sure that seeing my stories with that color of the camera we would be so happy and the camera would give it a lot of use both ext / int, or one more camera cheap as well as good quality. I am not undecided and I want a camera with a color. What do you recommend me.
