They were rocking one of these at Synthfest a few days ago, does sound marvelous. On a Dulcitone note - I spoke to the granddaughter of Thomas Machel a while back and she had a photo of them stood outside their shop in Glasgow about 100 years ago. Nice to put some faces to the Dulcitone story. I'll have to dig it out.
The custom Rhodes engineered MK8 analogue preamp features parametric EQ, independent drive, envelope control, wah, new vari-pan with 4 waveshapes, audio rate modulation capabilities and dual expression pedal control inputs. True analogue signal path.
Nice reboot for an inspiring institution in the music industry - trusted, subtle-yet-complex, humble, challenging and well ahead if it’s time - made it’s mark, changed music but remembers what it’s great at. And as for the Rhodes Mk8, same. Well done.
I too am pleased to see you posting again. I have been thinking of you in the interim, weirdly some might think but given that we've met and chatted and also because i've watched a hundred of your videos, perhaps it's not so weird. It has been like when you've heard a school mate has had a horrible accident. Hope all close to you are well too.
So good to have you back Christian! My TH-cam wasn't the same without you. This Rhodes is very tasty indeed. I own a Mark I and it's the best purchase I've ever made.
Hey Christian, Thanks for all you do. I’ve been having a lot of issues with my mk8, a lot of buzz and barely any sound coming out at times, and seemingly no buzz when compared side by side to my Wurlitzer, on the same power bar and the same amp input. Very strange. The Mk8 was seemingly working a little better when it first arrived but the buzz has been persistent and not circumventable regardless of where it’s being plugged into or volume levels - no other instrument of mine has the same issue. Have you experienced anything similar?
Just fantastic to hear your voice again Christian. You are a much needed guiding force and source of inspiration for so many of us! And yeah Rhodes sounds amazing ✨
I own a 1972 Mk1a with the Buzz Watson stamp on it. The action is very unresponsive but the sound is amazing. I’ve owned and played on Rhodes since 1976 and it’s easily the best sounding one. I prefer the raw sound of mine to what I am hearing here. The advantage of this newer model is the huge improvement in the action and all the great processing onboard. You can do so much more with the newer model.
As others have said, this was a wonderful notification to get. I hope you're keeping well and look forward to more of your inspirational and educational content. X
Lovely instrument! That instrument that is sharing so lovely sounds is what everyone should searching for. Thank you! Glad you comeback with so positive energy 😊
So good to have you back!!! And great demo; this MK8 is gorgeous. I owned a MKI in the mid 70s. I worked in keyboard retail when Roland bought the Rhodes name. We carried the Rhodes MK-80 and MK-60. The piano sounds were from Roland’s RD-1000/MK-20. The keyboard assembly was similar to (or the same as) their RD pianos. They had other products that were copies of Roland synths; I think the Rhodes line was geared to the home piano stores. Been over 30 years now!
So happy you to see you back Christian and with a Rhodes ! My favorite musical instrument in the world. While my vintage Rhodes is actually being in a professional process of restauration, i'm glad to know you are still up, vibing and fighting with us and for us. We love you Christian, welcome back home.
Welcome back! Can’t wait to see what the spending spree has added to your studio. I’ve really noticed in my own work recently the need to get out of the box and how inspiring it can be!
Christian, your artful videos are among my all-time favorites. Thank you for sharing your wit and exposition, the guidance of your tutorials, and your incredible contribution to the world of sampling and high-performance sample playback. You have enriched my life with your work, and I send my warmest regards and best wishes. Very happy to see you back!
I always secretly hoped you’ll do a The Blue Nile deep dive ever since your move to Scotland, the excellent Castle Sound creative cribs episode and Solstice. Your love of synths and your excellent taste in music will eventually make this inevitable, won’t it? For a while there I was afraid we’d not meet again. But look who’s back! Mister Henson, welcome back. My hope of some day watching you do a remake of “Walk Across The Rooftops” with Solstice strings and your synth arsenal has been restored. ❤
@@lit3work They are fantastic. And I know Christian likes them too. What my REAL mission is, is to find out whether that piano he sampled in Castle Sound for Intimate Grand Piano is a grand that might have been used by the band in the past as well ;-)
Good to see you back Christian! Hope life is treating you well. Can't wait to see more great content from you like this one here. Rhodes holds a special place in my heart. Cheers!
Great to have you back Christian, so sorry about what you've had to experience over the past few weeks. What a gorgeous sounding and looking instrument the Mk8 is.
I missed you and support you, Christian. You make some of my favorite content on the internet. Your passion and talent always shine through. Now to come up with 9 grand for this keyboard...
This new Rhodes sounds amazing! It's almost as if the creators of this took the sounds that Massive Attack, Radiohead and Sigur Ros made with the original Rhodes, running it through the Culture Vulture and other good saucy things and incorporated it all. Very Cool!
This is awesome, how didn't I see this earlier! I just did a video comparing my MK1 to the V8 Plugin, surprising results. I also included a free MK1 matched plugin setup/profile and presets for anyone who wants to check it out!
Good to see you back Christian, was quite literally searching for some musical geekery to end the day with and up you popped in the notifications. I think the Empress Effects Zoia guitar pedal can turn CV into midi and midi into CV. It’s a bit fiddly, but worth checking out maybe. It’s basically modular system in a guitar pedal.
That should work! I have the ZOIA Euroburo and you could take the MIDI from DIN to 3.5mm into the Euroburo, attenuate the levels, and send it out a CV output. That's easier than my original thought. 👊😎
So happy that you're back, Christian! You rock and you have been missed!

The ability to do ring modulation with the varipan is hilarious and amazing at the same time
Great to have you back, Christian.
Great to see you back, Christian. Much love to you and yours.
