    The thing you're missing from this video is that he always closes his feet when he hesi's (you kind of mentioned this with the hop, but not really). Most players pay no attention to foot positioning when they hesi, and only focus on their eyes, arms, and upper body, and often end up trying to hesi with a wide base even though their real shot has narrow foot positioning. This is where Ronaldo's hesi excels beyond everyone else, as his hesi FULLY looks like he's going into his shooting motion vs most people who only have their upper bodies looking like they're going into a shooting motion.

      i think that wasn’t mentioned because most players shoot from a closed-stance. so when he says he looks like he might hop into a shot, it’s covering that aspect of the footwork

      Also it's a quick side step which is needed to get pass aggressive defenders. That's also the problem with the hang hesi. It's too slow against handsy defenders. Especially if you're playing against squared defenders with long wingspans. Unlike the hang hesi, Segu's hesi is too fast to predict and stay in front of.

    What a lot of people are missing and one person pointed this out from a different video I saw him on, is this kid has "perfected" the carry. If you pay attention he gets his hand slightly under the ball then quickly yanks to the other side or makes a move to the basket. Its very clever and shifty move, but a carry nonetheless.

      All great ballhandlers carry or palm the ball...it's why refs don't waste time slowing down the game for calling it unless it's ultra blatant...
      If you're a great ball handler, you're not worried about carrying because enough ball experience will teach you what you essentially can get away with...focus on the separation, footwk, and pace changes and you'll be fine.

    The first 40 seconds of the clip dude is carrying so hard it’s unbelievable you are confused on how he’s getting away with carrying so hard look at his hand placement. When you trying to replicate the move you actually did it correctly and put your hand on the side of the ball this Ronaldo guy hand is directly under the ball his hesi is so effective due to his carry what makes him so good at his hesi is carrying skills from training at Kroger

    Carry in almost each episode)) this carryman best even then devin williams (inthelab)

  • @PTrey
    @PTrey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    When you train this do you initially make players rep out off the dribble shots (pull up, side step, step back, etc) and then build the hesi off of the natural shooting motion? Or do you jump straight into working on the hesi itself?
    I've seen effective hesis from players that don't love to shoot, so I don't think it's necessarily a prerequisite to have the pull up on lock, but it intuitively makes sense to pair them to make it look identical and give the most options. I suppose it mostly depends on each individual's play style.

    This is not a critique of his skillset or talent level, just an observation of what is clearly displayed on the screen. We all can see he is a high level hooper. --There is a difference between a "hesi" and feint. Sometimes, to enhance the effect, they are used together. Hesi is just short for hesitation, meaning to momentarily slow the speed of your legal live dribble almost to a pause. A feint is just putting your off hand near the ball to fake picking the ball up. On a lot of these plays, like a majority of players today who try this combo, he is clearly carrying the ball. He puts his hand underneath the ball, discontinuing the dribble(violation), then puts it back on the side once the defender falls for it. With such a high talent level, I can't see any justification for using this illegal move as an offensive crutch.

Unlike Jab steps or regular dribble drills where it’s simple as repetition with intent, I keep practicing hesitations and I simply can’t get my defender to react or bite the hezi.

    And it's usually the guy's friends backing him up saying it's not a carry.
    Of course I'm going to jump if your hand is literally under the ball like you're about to shoot.
    I've seen some Hesi's done the right way though with the ball on the side of the ball.

      It's hard to spot at game speed. Refs would give them the benefit of doubt. They'd rather let a small carry slide, than call carry on a perfectly legal move.
      As for pick up games... If it looks cool, no one will want to call.

    “He was despised and rejected- a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.”
