It was a fantastic, rollercoaster of a series and it received a fitting end on a beautifully sunny and dramatic day at the Oval. With the series tied at 1-1, Australia resumed their 2nd innings on day 4, after an impressive start of 83-0. But England bowled brilliantly on a good batting pitch, taking 10 wickets in the day, and reclaimed the famous little urn.

Anderson, Flintoff, Harmison, Broad, Swann - what an attack!
Anderson and broad suck outside England
Abhishek Phand which is why they have the most wickets in cricket atm... u seem to know nothing
@@genghiskhan4588 at the moment, most of the players haven't played as much as those two. Anderson playing from around 2005 and broad since 2007. No other bowler is playing from then. But just check there record outside England, especially in subcontinent. They suck
@@abhishekphand4789 Same as whole Indian team suck outside India. Well India has never produced a legend bowler like Anderson steyn. India has produced poor and weak bowling attack. Dhoni also sucks outside India. Dhoni doesn't have single overseas century. Foolish and nonsense Indian compared him with legendary Gilchrist. Sehwag is a flat pitch bulliey. He sucks in swinging condition. Foolish and nonsense Indian call him best opener
@@shahroopal6194 sehwag is a flat track bully? That's why he has test centuries in SA, eng, aus?
India hasn't produced a decent bowling attack? Right now India has one of the best bowling attack in world.
When you said, Indian team suvk outside India, well is that why we tied series in 2002, and won in 2007 in eng? Tied series in 2002 and won in 18 in aus, tied series in 2006 in SA and I think won test series in windies in 06?
For all the runs scored, this is still one of my favourite Alastair Cook memories. Thanks for everything, Chef!
After 12 years Anderson and broad still shine for England
the great era of England Cricket history 😍😍
This was a watershed moment for England. Unlike 2005, no one gave them a hope of winning the Ashes here, but not only did they achieve that it also was the beginning of England's ascendance to No.1 in the world. The start of a great era.
Until South Africa came calling in 2012
@@danielwilkins4748 yeah, exceptions do happen
Untill they were destroyed in 2015 wc. Still great win.
Looking back on this team and comparing it to the current team, you can see how far england have declined. 2010-2012 england were good, from 2012-2018 we were decent, from 2018-2020 we were ok, in 2021 we have been awful, shambolic and embarrassing, and it looks like england will continue to be awful, shambolic and embarrassing because england cannot bat and our fielding, bowling, leadership, coaching and selecting is awful.
@@asharahmed5238 We won the Ashes in 2015.
I was there that day. Best sporting event I’ve ever been to!
Who is here after Stokesy's fabulous match winning knock in Headingley?
Srinivasa Sowmithri V B yes
Hate rangas
lots of indians
@@AL3X2580 shut up. lmao
Dave Spellbound is that a problem?
Just imagine with Kevin Peterson in the team...😇😇ohhh. Such a quality team and great talents. Unforgettable moments...
england ashes victory has given me a lot of motivation personally ...thank u england
Prior's wicketkeeping skills were amazing that day
Flintoff was a gem of a player
I watched this game. truly a great moment. Thank you Freddie Flintoff for your contributions to the game. You are once a hero, always a hero. I think you have also inspired Ben Stokes. Just hope Flintoff can help Stokes not get into trouble.
Australia winning era started to decline when great mc grath and Shane warne.
You prasing so hard to Flintoff goes in deaf ear as nobody cares for cricketer in England...
@@romelkulkarni6263look now they are back again test champion and odi champion
Andrew Strauss was seriously underrated

There is no better series than Ashes 05. Yes 09 is also great for England but 05 is uncomparable
One of the greatest series i have ever watched
1981
09 was a good series but between two pretty poor sides.
2019 is getting pretty spicy
@@alexmeechan15 England was a top side back then and barring Marcus North, Nathan Hauritz, Tim Paine, Australia weren't bad either
One of the best series has ever had England regained the ashes
This was a perfect end to flintoffs
Carear
Flintoff's what?
Career. !
My best England team .....miss u flintoff
0:56 - Randomly seeing Daniel Radcliffe xD

Remember this game, one of the best
It's still my favourite English cricket memory, above even 2005 or the away win in 2010/11 or taking the #1 raking in 2011 (exactly 12 years to the day since we'd taken the last place ranking at the same ground). I think it's because it felt so unexpected. After Australia destroyed us at Headingley, it felt like normal service being resumed. Then Stuart Broad bowled that wonderful spell and suddenly a series I'd expected England to lose was there for the taking. Was so upset when someone deleted my recording of the highlights from my Sky Box - thank god for TH-cam! :-)
That's a feel to watch.
What a win
1:30 Watto again out on LBW.. Damn this guy is a genius.
Atleast he didn't waste his review..
The familiar look of disbelief as he trudges off.
Underachieved for me, as on his day he was dangerous with the bat
@@belindahunt824 because Ponting was at the other end.
@@belindahunt824 because there wasn't drs in this series
How many times Watson got out lbw man it is unbelievable for a man of his class.
Best crowd..
The Great era of England to win the title of ashes❤
Excellent series
Heartbreaking that Shane Warne is not here to commentate on the 2023 Ashes..
No finer sight in cricket than England beating ozzies and winning the ashes 2005 and 2009 what teams we had and of course Bothams ashes in 1981 just awesome to watch
Andrew Strauss looks a lot like Graeme Smith
Didn't have the same feel as 2005 but still a great day
2009 was a better Eng team than 2005 eng team and in 2009 Aus was in transition pjase due to retirement of their some legendary players like Warne and Mcgrath
@@sunilpokhrel8904I have to disagree. We had a better team in 2005. Unfortunately injuries deprived us of key players after the 2005 Ashes series. Like Vaughan, Simon Jones and Trescothick. Trescothick had his problems with his mental health which meant he had to leave the 2006/07 Ashes tour halfway through. No Vaughan or Jones in that series. If we'd had the same team that we had in 2005, in Australia in 2006/07, fit and firing, it wouldn't have been 5-0. Australia would have still won it but it would have been a lot closer.
Brilliant match.
Ashes is the greatest rivalry in the history of game. Always, great to watch both teams fighting for the title.
09 wasn’t as good as 05 but still one of my favourite ashes to date. Nail biting finish at Cardiff, runs from great batsman, wickets from great bowlers and wonderful finish to flintoff and harmison careers
Runouts changed d hole game
Wickets tend to change games.
" Oh I say Gromit , cracking toast " ! " Like to see my new invention Gromit ? Aluminium cricket bat , made from Mrs Roper's old discarded saucepan set . Sure to be a smash hit , my old lad " . " Put that paper down and throw the ball , there's a good fellow " !
I think Haddin forgot that Australia only needed a draw.
You have very few ashses to celebrate, so celebrate them by watching again and again
Miss those glory days of cricket. That south africa Sri Lanka Australia engalnd and even pakistan teams were something else
Pakistan team was something else in 90s not in 2000s
Here it comes & there it goes...gold😂😂😂😂😂
As a captain Ponting has world cup, champions trophy, but he never won ashes series in england and test series in india.
Correct
Why does this matter top 3 off all time
imagine if flintoff and stokes played in the same era
KP and Freddie
Stokes has definitely well and truly replaced Flintoff
THANK YOU SO... MUCH

Nassir Hussain commentary: "Michael Clarke the batsmen of the series " .. just awesome
Not a patch on 2005 but a win all the same
This lead to 3 or 4 years of absolute dominance by England. Beating the Aussies comfortably on their own turf included.

2006/07 Ashes was the best
On day 1 Bell described the pitch as playing like a day 4
Like a match
Clarke was not out!
Seriously the aussues after Clarke being out should have just batted for time and slowly 🙄 as they played stupid shots to get out
This was day 4, they were never going to bat for a day and half
Clarke and Ponting run out. What r the chances?
I miss England having a match winning spinner :(
exzaris Moeen Ali is a match winner. How many times has he dug us out of a hole with bat and ball. Great player.
avfc85 I was referring to Swanny. I wasn't having a dig at Moeen. It's nice he can bat (not so much recently but he's proved he can do it). Im not too fussed about runs. He's just not even in the same bracket as Swanny for taking wickets and winning games. That's what I miss. Do you really think opponents worry about any of our current spinners? :)
Did you see Moeen today (2nd September) against India?
@@joshuarosen6242 yep well played moeen. No where near consistent enough to hold a candle to Swanny though. Which is my point really. It's not me saying mo is not good. It's me saying Swanny was great. Mo is not great yet. Maybe he will start to be reliable now.
exzaris Yes, you're right about that. Moeen can bowl really well sometimes and of course he can bat too but he is frustratingly inconsistent.
Still, it's good to beat India though. It was a good game.
