Yes he most definitely did! They are wonderful! Sorry not trying to be a pest but one correction in your comment, 1903 is not "hammerless". A common misconception. The hammer is concealed in the stock under the slide.

@@Rileysworld727it's not hammerless and was always a confusing inaccurate description, when I was a kid I first learned about this type of weapon, I was told to refer to it as pocket pistol because only a noob who knows nothing about weapons would use that description. Colt never called it hammerless, that's not their description, it's a layman's term for the weapon is the point.
You should do a series on the life of John Browning. Othias would narrate and Ian would play JB. Mae would play the fairy who gives Browning his innovative ideas. It would be great!

As a civilian contract truck driver, my Grand Father carried a 1903 into Mexico with Pershing. As a private in the Big Red One he went to France and carried that same 1903 driving trucks to the front line. He also carried on his belt as a Military Governor in Czechoslovakia post war.

As a Type III 1903 owner myself, I appreciate Mae's remarks about the proportions. The FN 1900 and 1903 both look to me like the weird target-shooting long-slide versions of properly proportioned guns that never got made. :)
I love this gun! After getting to fire one years ago I actually bit the bullet and purchased one of the remakes Colt put out a couple of years ago. Seriously I don't know what it is but the gun is just very fun to shoot. I end up using this at the range more than my other pistols. If you ever get the chance to shoot one I highly recommend giving it a try. It's just a fun little shooter.
I have the .380 version. I'm a Terrible shot but despite the tiny teeny sights i can hit stuff

I owned a 3rd version from the late 30s early 40s in .32. I loved it. Carried it a lot. Very reliable and no over penetration. I miss it :-( was my first handgun.

Second time through the series and I swear it took some of my thumbs up’s away..
My grandpa had one of these hidden in his nightstand at the cabin. He passed away in 2009. My wife found it over Labor Day weekend 2022. Nobody in the family knows about it. I looked up the serial number, it was manufactured in 1916!!! Very cool find. I’ll never know the story behind it tho.
It costs a few bucks, but you can get historical letters from colt that indicate where it was shipped to.

I'll be getting a Colt 1903 from a friend in a few days, this is a great tutorial. All C&Rsenal vids are great tutorials. Don't know how much it helps but I now let the ads play through, I hope you get some revenue from them.

My 1909 vintage Colt Pocket Hammerless Type II and I enjoyed this video together.
I have one of those. It was my great-grandfather's carry gun when he wasn't on duty. Sadly, it got pitted when handed down from generation to generation. There is a Colt partner in Montana that restores Colts and other guns. They do a magnificent job and also sell guns. The store is called The Custom Shop and they have a show called the Gunfather on TH-cam. I'm not affiliated with them but as someone who is picky about my guns, I can tell you they are awesome and easy to work with. Devin Coleman is the one who has helped me with a purchase and my restoration project.
Great episode. I will probably watch this one again the next time I need to clean my 1903 (Type I with a 40K serial number range). I do remember it being finicky on the field strip.

My FatherinLaw was issued this gun by the Pentagon when he worked there back in 40s? He left it to me when he died. I don't think my 1903 has ever been fired. UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL work!!
Believe it or not, this was the first pistol I ever shot! I inherited one and still love it!mine has pearl handles and has a story related to the gangsters of the 30's and the purple gang. Great history lesson!

my real introduction to this channel was while I was in the ER after I had a bad fall. In between X-rays and drugs and doctors, I somehow stumbled on this. I was kind of incapacitated for most of 3-4 days and I binged a *ton* of videos off this channel

I have one of these 32s, and it does feel nice in the hands, nice and slim and good for someone with small hands.
I'm glad they addressed the trigger in this compared to the FN 1903, both how it worked differently and how it handled. I've been trying to convince myself not to get a FN 1903 since they're cheaper than Colt 1903/08s right now, and the fact the trigger is markedly better is the turning point I think.

What else is there to put in a pie but meat? Mince, mince and cheese, steak, steak and cheese, steak and kidney, steak and mushroom, pepper steak , chicken and vegetable, butter chicken , chicken and mushroom, bacon and egg, smoked fish, mussels, lamb and kumara. Pie is the national dish in New Zealand and aside from the occasional apple, apricot or custard pie for afters they ain't sweet.
Same in Australia; a 'pie' = a 'meat pie'. Pies that have a word before 'pie' in their name are either fancier meat pies (the sort that admit what sort of meat is in them or include non-meat ingredients) or sweet, dessert-type pies. Pies that could easily confuse someone from a non-meat pie country include: 'potato pie', which is a normal meat pie with a potato topping in place of the normal pastry top; 'shepherd's pie/cottage pie', which is a meat pie without any pastry at all, which is topped with mashed potato; and 'mince pie', which is actually a sweet, Christmas-only pie with a filling of spiced dried fruit.
Well potato pie can also be a normal pie with mash potato in it; Kind of an odd one that.
You can turn pretty much any cassarole or stew and bake it in a pie. A deviled beef sui pie is very nice for instance.

My Grandfqther and my Dad each carried a 1903 in .32ACP in Chicago back in the day. One was a first model; the other a third model. Both still in the family, NRA very good to Excellent condition.
I've got the Colt 1908 in 380ACP. It does fit in my front jeans pocket and doesn't snag, living up to its name.
It's flat, 3/4" except for the grip panels. It's a petite little thing. My only complaint is the Browning magazine heel release is very inferior to the Makarov heel release.

I have my great-grandfathers 1903, made in 1928 (fourth model). He was a plainclothes policeman in NYC in the late 20s early 30s. He was from Hungary, but jewish so he spoke Yiddish, had the dark hair and complexion of an southern Italian and spoke Italian since he married a girl from Palermo. He apparently dealt with alot of gangs because of these "skills". In so many cases if a gun could talk, it would say " I spent 60 years in a sock drawer" but in this guns case...I bet it was privy to some shenanigans
You can buy the 1903 .32 ACP used from the low $400's to $1300 in really nice condition. A really fun pistol to shoot and collect.

There's a lot of Browning poking here. I disapprove. But since this channel has guns AND PIE, I will continue to watch.
It is easier to depress the recoil spring detent and to rotate the barrel bushing, then removing it, rotate the barrel maybe 90° counter-clockwise viewed from the muzzle, and dissasemble the gun, slide still forward. Way way easier.
No unneccesary recoil-spring tension during dissassembly, makeing this way easier.

This is another great example of how Browning was so far ahed of everybody. That gun looks almost as modern as anything I've seen in my local dealer.
Question: does Colt M1903 Hammerless have a cocking indicator of some kind? How do you tell if this gun is cocked and ready to fire if the hammer is concealed and you can't see it?

Have you ever tried the new production Pocket Hammerless models that Colt came out with a couple years ago? How do those stack up against original production models?
Hey, My Savage is chambered in .32 ASP. not .32 ACP... I even have an original box of ammunition. Automatic Savage Pistol... It's always a toss up between the Savage and the Colt 1903. The Savage always tries to twist when firing, but that is part of the design. Thumbs way up on both.
