If the Justice League was being mind controlled and truly no longer holding back they would be unstoppable. Each and every one of them is capable of being a serious global threat in their own way. There’s an alternate universe where someone at WB said “hey why are we making a game about the dumbass Suicide Squad and another separate game about Batman’s protégés that have nothing to do with each other? Let’s combine those 2 ideas”. Gotham Knights but with the budget this game had and the general plot about needing to save the Justice League from Brainiacs mind control while being a proper sequel to the Arkham series starring characters we know and have played as like Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing, and Batgirl/Oracle would’ve been a thousand times better than this suicide squad shit. Rock steady made a perfect live service model. All future content free, forever. Pay once and done. If any other studio made this game it would be getting praised, saying "this is how you do live service". Unfortunately people are focused on WHO made the game, not the game itself. It’s so sad to see because the facial capture in cutscenes and the art direction for parts of metropolis are GORGEOUS. Even some of the game elements like the movement of the characters (especially boomerang’s teleport) is so fucking cool. I really wish we could have had this game as a single-player rpg but here we are :(.
Honestly as much as I hate to admit it, I agree. The character movements are insanely fluid and look really good. Metropolis looks like a place that would've been good to explore under different circumstances. Cutscene visuals looks top tier. All these things makes the game suck even more because of all these assets were wasted on the Suicide Squad in general, and on a looter live service model
Maybe a justice league game or simply a superman game. This could have been an execptional place to make a fully featured Superman game as a single player experience. I think the company could have pulled that off.

Honestly, if the game JUST came out but the devs are already saying "look to future updates and seasons" then that says whatever you're playing in the beginning just isnt good or important.

Wouldn’t be shocked if this ends Rocksteady as a studio. I knew the second this was implied to be live service it was going to be a complete and utter dumpster fire. Just embarrassing.
It brings up the question: what would they do next? They could try to fix this game and slowly pull a Cyberpunk maybe, or they could ditch this game and start a new one from scratch. Both would require a ton of time, resources, and fan goodwill to allow them to recover, so I don’t see them surviving long. Maybe a year or a few years with a LOT of layoffs. This isn’t worst case, but it’s closer to worst case than it is best case scenario.
From what I’ve heard the original developers left the company during this game’s development. Sefton Hill started a new studio with the others that left.

If this is the quality of writing and gameplay they can deliver then the studio is dead already. What the hell is going on with the CEOs? Churning out half baked games, only to cut their staff when it didn’t land. The consumers are getting sour and the staff are getting punished? MAN!!
CEOs only exist to make the most profit as possible for the least amount of effort for the shareholders. Thing is, they only care about making money in the short term, and have no consideration for the long term, since usually they just wanna hold the position for a few years at most, make some millions, and then move on to the next company to suckle from.
CEO's, while some are awful, many are just shareholder puppets. They are just yes men. Always makes me laugh, that one. They deliberately set out to insult you, so if you're insulted... you're wrong? But if you weren't insulted and you liked it, that would mean they failed.
To be honest, as much as I dislike this game. Some people exaggerate, this game isn't a deliberate insult. It's just an expensive live service game with repetitive gameplay, disappointing boss fights and a story that could had been done better. But calling it a deliberate insult is just exaggeration.
I've never understood that line of reasoning. Why would an entity that derives its income making 'things you love' intentionally commit hærəˈkɪrɪ by denigrating the thing their customer loves? Nothing more than mental gymnastics concocted by Simps that have zero concept of constructive criticism.

I worked on this title and it was simply UNFINISHED. It went through reboots for about 75% of the dev time and then when the OGs left they couldn't figure out what to do next. The story parts weren't even worked on until late 2023 , which is why all the characters stand around doing fuck all why the plot happened to them (see WW's fight with Sman) and it was made more "spicey" (inflammatory) at corporate's behest to keep everyone from seeing how underbaked it is. My favorite people are this game’s defenders: “You’re overreacting just because this game is intended as a deliberate insult to you and the things you love”
@@cape9869 maybe remove the word _deliberate_, then you'll get what people are saying, or maybe you're not a fan of the characters being insulted because the _insult_ is present.
@@ms-terious it’s easy to understand if you understand the people who make these decisions. The company is filled with devs who are progressive whackos. They hate Batman for being a straight, white male. They hate that comics have mostly been created by straight, white makes. And they hate the audience for being primarily straight, white males. It is that simple.
And the executives (usually the only guys in these companies who have a basic understanding of economics) know nothing about Batman, comics, or video games. They just demand a live-service game based on a popular existing franchise that they can milk as much money as they can for a decade; they neither know nor care about the story
Rocksteady should’ve made a solo Superman game.
Kinda reminds me of the Robin Williams bit about golf.
"And you do this one time?"
"F Noooo! 18 f'n times!!!"
It's funny he mentions how this *could have* been one of the greatest bosh rush games ever made. The premise has the potential in spades. But after you do the first one you've already seen every boss fight. And I mean every single boss fight. It's just dodge some stuff, shoot some stuff, League member gets a weak spot you shoot for a second, repeat until they flop over like a fish.
It could have been a standalone title but nope
I like to call this game "Rocksteady kills the Suicide Squad" for a reason.
Think id call it "Suicide Squad kills Rocksteady" tbh
You should see the cope in the xbox review comments... wow.
You’ve got it backwards.
Or better, "sucide squad live service game kills Rocksteady"

7 main story missions defending a car is all you needed to say for me to not wanna buy it.
I would just go play Overwatch 2 at that point if I wanted to defend the payload lol
Without watching I’ll tell you this, it’s a live service game that no one asked for, we told them we didn’t want this and they didn’t listen. They fucked around and found out.
Fools like you make me laugh out loud. Not understanding what the passage of time is and how investing money into things works. This game started development years ago and after 2 years would have had too many resources put into it for the company to back out. This game and the live service element would have been too far along years before people decided they had enough of live service games.
Really appreciate how Gameranx does things. They don’t complain about not getting early access or give biased opinions based on getting early access or not. They don’t give scores or tell you to buy or not. They just speak facts. You are my go to for honest analysis.
And I like Falcon's takes as he's usually no bs straight to the point. 👍
Thank you for addressing the 9 year development. I have left a comment asking where that time went and I have received 0 answers. I don't think that ANYONE knows what it was about this game that took 9 years.
It makes you wonder if they were working on totally different game but were forced to reset progress to pivot and force this game out the sphincter.
They had all the time and funding thanks ta Blackrock & Vanguard.
I believe they were working on something else prior to taking on Suicide Squad (Damien Wayane Batman game was what I remember reading). They took it over from someone else if I’m not mistaken.
Well weren’t they working on like a superman game or something then WB made them pivot sometime in development? Idk how true that is i just remember reading that in passing
Speculation aside, we can say with certainty that they didn't know what they were doing. To my knowledge, they've never made an offline coop game, let alone a full blown online live service game. I'd be deeply surprised if, when they started, a single person in the company had ever done more than glance at netcode.
Everyone: Rocksteady should make a Superman game next!
WB: Best we can do is a generic looter shooter.
Rocksteady pitched the Suicide Squad shooter game themself.
If you remember almost a decade ago there were leaks of rocksteadys superman concept art. That concept art was for this game. Just saying that is how long they have been actively developing this game
The higher ups didn't want it to be "like the cyberpunk fiasco " 🙄
damn that sounds like a total mess
Superman could have destroyed them all with a flick of his finger. But they killed him with guns, the man is bulletproof and faster than a speeding bullet. Wtf were they smoking in the office
They probably got kryptonite bullets or something.

@@JeighNeither That's exactly it. Lex-2 synthesizes a new form of Kryptonite that they wear and use in bullets, and the Superman fight largely boils down to constantly shooting him to lower his defenses over time.

"Live service shit" - Falcoln, all my hommies hate live service shit. 😂
Deciding your game will just be live service is not just stupid, but ignorant and cocky to say the least. Publishers basically "decide" their game will be success and popular. And newsflash, you cant decide that, you morons.
I hate live service, its a blight, but even me, when I think of it, even I play live service you could argue. I am a big fan of Paradox strategy games, like Stellaris. And these guys keep cracking expansions like crazy and I love it. But guess what, they made a game FIRST, fucking THEN it got popular, then they made expensions, and when there was a demand, then they turned into live service basically.
These morons however, they undermine entire development and the game, so it could be live service in the future. Like thanks, thanks for "deciding" we will love and play and buy this crap before you even made... now go to welfare center or smth cause you might gonna need it.b
It's funny how WB and Rocksteady assumed that we were ready to move on from the Arkham formula when they could have easily milked that for years and years and we would have loved it.
And the fact that a “consulting firm” called Sweet Baby worked on the game. That’s a huge red flag. If you ever see a game and Sweet Baby mentioned together then stay away from that game at all costs.
But Alan Wake 2, GOW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 had them involved and those games were good. So… is this a flunk or Rocksteady is ass?

That's right. They can't put a shop in the game with cancerous mtx to milk you for after you already bought the damn game.
Yes
Everybody posting comments here knows that the majority of live service games are trash, but that doesn't stop them from making huge mountains of cash for their publishers.

Classic Ship of Theseus - in 2022 when the co-founders left Rocksteady they took with them the most talented developers the studio had as well. The developers that made the Arhkam Batman Trilogy of games have long since left the company. Warner Bros brought in whoever they could to get the game out the door. Hell the writers have no idea about the JL lore and have Shark put on Green Lantern's ring which could NEVER happen.
