People still defend this game in the Reddit, but they’re mostly fanboys who larp about liking dc so much that they pretend to like a trash game, same thing happened with the delusional marvel game people
Idk how the writers of this game thought killing off Arkham Batman and the JL was a good idea. It's was so obviously going to be received poorly by everyone especially by Arkham fans. It's like shooting your foot off and then expecting to be able to run afterwards.

This is the fastest crash out in history and it's crazy Rocksteady thought they could give us this game, say its in the Arkham verse which we dominated over three games, and then they disrespect the very hero we loved. Honestly good riddance to this game, it doesn't exist in my mind. Long live the Arkham Trilogy.
Its so funny that the Joker was supposed to be their ace in the hole and then he had genuinely one of my least favourite Joker designs I have ever seen
I don't know how WB are going to continue the Arkham Verse after this. They killed off a lot of their potential main characters, and if they say its all just multiverse stuff then what was the point in killing them anyway? It was a terrible idea to begin with, and Rocksteady will be forever tarnished. I bet they could have made a good superman game instead, but instead we get this rubbish. What a waste of 9 years in between Arkham Knight and this.
Theres a theory with a ton of confirming parts that the justice league u fight are lesser clones of the league because brainiac couldnt fully control them so cloned each member to be under his control but their powers being lessened because they werent the original(a bit like how the justice league of jl 3000 where clones but didnt have their full power or had pale imitations of those powers) the flash losing a finger and later just having said finger back the fact brainiac put part of himself into a flash body for the final fight(yes thats actually the ending a rehashed flash fight but worse)
Yeah, calling this well-written is just...wow. If this hits their standards for good writing I'll probably just avoid Destructoid reviews going forward. Their ability to discern quality writing clearly doesn't exist.

The fastest DOAG BTW was The Day Before. It came out December 7 while the Death of a Game came out 17 days later on the 24th. This was almost 3 months from its release back in February.
The real tragedy of this one is that it was a full blown AAA game from a beloved studio that immediately crashed out fr. And then they tried to gaslight the fans and tell them they're wrong ... 😮💨 What's happened to our game studios man?
@@young5395 The problem like you, me and most gamers still thought the old talents were still there. This is not the case anymore when gamers start to realize it. You wouldn't believe me if I have told you that this is the same studio that created Urban Chaos: Riot Response (a great game btw) back in the PS2/Xbox era.
This one is rather depressing... Not only because of this being Kevin Conroy's last role, but also the fact that this may very well torpedo Rocksteady's reputation for good, all that talent, such an amazing take on the DC universe, and... They decided to attach this cancer to it... I think the worst part is that this one is taking the worst aspects of the live service slop: Turning everything into a chore, hoping to turn this one game into a lifestyle game, or worse, a job... When this stuff starts to feel like a job, like you gotta plan your day around not missing the timed stuff or grinding for whatever crumbs of slop they are willing to give you, it's the moment whatever fun this game could be died in its tracks.
Thankfully Kevin Conroy voiced Batman in the last Crisis movie in a scene with Mark Hamill’s Joker that is actually a beautiful ending for his legendary run of Batman.
Also: It's a Suicide Squad game. The team is known to be a meat-grinder for D-list villains and not Harley and Friends like what the movies might have conditioned people to expect. It should have had a bigger roster of disposable villains that was integrated into the gameplay and story somehow.
@@ChadiusThat would have been the perfect way to adapt this group into a game, with more popular and powerful characters being unlockable as mission rewards or optional bosses. (Or DLCs because that's how the gaming market works nowadays.)
I honestly can't believe how much Rocksteady dropped the ball on Suicide Squad, All they needed to do is make an Arkham game from the villains perspective and everyone would have loved it! But as the old saying goes, Reputations take a lifetime to build, but seconds to destroy.

I'm really not even sure why they thought this was a good idea. In what world is the ideal next step for your superhero universe to A) Shoot Batman in the face, and B) introduce the whole Justice League ten minutes before they all get brainwashed into being evil and then kill them?
At the risk of sounding like a schizo... It's on purpose. The people who are funding these projects don't want anyone to enjoy their slop. On the contrary, they want everyone who loved the older games and movies to feel defeated. The whole thing is a demoralization campaign.

@@monumentvalley6681 with the IPs they own I am floored by how they’re not getting this. Like a sequel to hogwarts legacy or an rpg set in the game of thrones universe would just print money, but no.. just more mobile game trash
Good. As usual people on Reddit and TH-cam pretend live service is the issue but this game is bad because of the gameplay. Live service is almost never the issue for any game that fails. In fact it's usually the opposite. Live service can save a bad game. See no man sky or bf2042.
This has to be the most blatantly DOA AAA game ever released in recent memory. EVERYONE knew this thing was doomed from the get-go. Let's run down the list: 1) It's a live-service game that demands constant internet connection. 2) Gameplay is the same, tired shooter, grind fest that had been proven to be a failure time and time again beforehand. 3) It's a sequel to a series of acclaimed games that already had a conclusion, only to completely undo said conclusion and utterly demolish their legacy. 4) It revolves around slaughtering beloved heroes instead of playing as them which is what most players would want. 5) Despite a seven year development period, it was a buggy unpolished mess that people struggled to actually play. 6) It came out right after Batman's much loved actor's real life death making the whole thing seem even more tasteless. I know I can't pin the blame on Rocksteady since no one could have known what would have happened to Kevin Conroy during development, but the fact remains that no one wanted this game in the first place and his death just furthered that point. I really hope that this crap is the final nail in the coffin for live-service AAA games coming out.
Agreed with almost everything except for the fourth point. Alot of people do enjoy playing villains if executed correctly (pun intended). Take SWTOR for example, the majority of players are playing as the maniacal Sith instead of the peacekeeping Jedi. WB Games just really fumbled the storytelling to the point where they basically just insulted fans by deminishing the impact of the Arkham trilogy.
@@ojigbo With SWTOR that doesn't really count. SSKTJ involved you killing arkham batman, who was the main character for 3 entire games and that people including me absolutely loved. On the other hand, the jedi in SWTOR are just the jedi as a faction, you're not killing luke or obi-wan or yoda or any other beloved character, you're killing jedi that are original to SWTOR. If SSKTJL involved you killing every other JL member except for batman it would still suck shit but it'd at least not be as insulting to the arkhamverse or the character of batman because the other JL were never introduced as characters in the arkham series, the only way to do an arkham batman death successfully would be to make it super heroic, like a sacrifice or some shit, not some D-B tier losers killing him.
"Studio that specializes in single-player, story-driven games is forced to make a soulless live-service cash-grab" is getting waaaaaay too common these days.
Watching Superman get gunned down by a bunch of jobbers that Batman could take out in his sleep was already ludicrous....but watching Harley of all people give Batman an utterly tone-deaf lecture on how HE caused emotional and mental damage to his enemies was beyond surreal. You truly gotta wonder what the folks at (not)Rocksteady thought would happen after that.
I use the "Batman is just a psychotic billionaire who beats up mentally ill people" take as a litmus test to see if someone has basic intelligence. And to have the most immoral version of Quin espouse that was stupid. "You beat us up, we're only villains because of you" Reminder: this Harley Quin once sent a bunch of game consoles rigged with explosives to several Gotham families around the holiday season.
Also correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this version of Harley the most evil version of her? Like she helped the Joker torture Jason Todd, poisoned a little girl and then gaslight her father into killing himself after the girl died and also blew up a bus full of primary school aged kids and helped the Joker sew them together to hurt the affected families more? She has no right to talk down to Batman about how much "emotional damage" he caused when she has ruined so many peoples lives lol.
Seeing the decline of Harley as a character over the last decade has been disheartening She is still one of my favorite characters, but that's in spite of how she is depicted nowadays, I simply cannot stand it, they took away everything that made her actually likeable
In regards to Kevin Conroy in this game: I suspect that he actually wanted to do this, mainly because lots of actors love getting to do alternate takes of characters they've done before (stretching creative muscles, so to speak.) However, the attachment isn't just to Conroy: this was the Batman fans had played as for 3 epic games, and a fourth good game in 'Origins'. There was nothing Epic about this death: it's just putting him out of his misery. That, just, HURTS. Thankfully, it looks like this isn't Conroy's last hurrah: he's listed as being in "Crisis of Infinite Earths, part 3". Hopefully, that will be the sendoff he deserves.
Conroy & Hamill will make 1 more appearance in that movie. Conroy LOVED doing evil/corrupt Batmen. Batman TAS has 2, Justice League the cartoon has 1, he did some live action stuff in CW Flash...
@@TyrantWesker I don't even think there is any real politics in this game to align with, it's most definitely because they were paid big money by the companies to give a good review.
@@CheeseChurger yea. Clearly it's just a coincidence that wonderland got tons of sympathy for her death while everyone else got mocked or killed offscreen
For real. In all honesty I haven't played this game. But having played the Arkham games years ago I was interested in it and looked into it. So I know the story. And hoo boy. I guess the writing can be good with some of the character acting and interactions, but it abysmally fails and sucks bad at everything that matters. The writing seems like trash with a few sprinkles on top to try and distract.
@@CheeseChurger There's some politics in the writing. All of the male justice league members are treated like trash when killed, but Wonder Woman is deeply respected as a hero when she dies. Harley Quinn is written as a strong independent woman that don't need no Joker, and takes every opportunity she gets to remind the audience of that. Harley gets to shoot Batman in the head after giving him a lecture on how 'being mean to criminals is bad' and how she suffered by his hand (despite Joker abusing her far worse in every conceivable way) and she makes some wildly inappropriate comments about kid Poison Ivy that would get any man thrown in jail if he said the same things.
I turely am baffled at how big corporations think just making a live service game that's so damn generic like the Avengers is a blueprint to success when the big 3 live service PvE games (Destiny2, Division 2, and Warframe) all quickly had to find out and adapt to a lack of content on release and had to quickly make both content that was unique, and an end game that's somewhat robust almost like an MMO in some ways. You can't release a game as a live service and have it be "do story missions with modifiers" the game.

This game is definitely going into DC comics hall of shame, alongside Teen titans go, Titans, Superhero girls, the CW verse, Batman and Robin, Superman 4, Injustice, the DCEU(at least the worst films there), Gotham Knights, the RWBY crossovers(no, I'm not kidding, those actually exist),and any infamously bad comics they made.
@PlahaKumar When you say Injustice, I think you mean the animated movie right ? The games and Comic aren't the best thing in the world, but they sure as hell shouldn't be put anywhere near the dumpster fire that is this game (the animated movie however very much does, I can't fathom how you can so precisely botch an adaptation in every possible way that is possible to botch)
Maybe I’m alone in this but I don’t think the “suicide squad” was ever as popular enough nor will it ever be to deserve the push it’s getting these days. And it seems like the only reason they are pushing it is to keep pushing girl boss Harley Quinn.
I do really dislike the Harley Quinnification of the Suicide Squad and the like, it feels like it pushes them into the self-aware anti-hero vibe meta-esque style that doesn't fit how I mentally imagine them. Then again I'm also not as big on the current form of Harley, so. It feels like it contributes to a lot of the tonal issues the game suffers from, anyway.
Nah, a good game will never be not popular. Helldivers 2 had zero marketing. The word got passed around by it simply being a good game. Its not rocket science
Honestly I feel that Suicide Squad as a concept was perfectly viable, but do agree that they are really over using Harley in it. She works fairly well as a villain in Batman as well as other DC heroes settings from time to time, but the anti-hero version of her they've been pushing in recent years has never really worked in my opinion. It almost makes me wonder of some executive at WB decided she was a good character to market and now they're trying to put her in everything, acting as if she's more popular than she actually is.
@@ipaddleYOass Plenty of good games aren't popular, particularly for their time. Okami was an awesome game and critical darling and sold under 600k units to the point Clover had to shutter and Platinum had to open. Street Fighter 3's timing caused it to be unpopular at the start of its life and took a while to become the GOAT-option fighting game it is now considered. Earthbound lived in the cult fringes until much later in its lifespan. Many NES, SNES, and so on games took a while to get going. And lots of strong games remain niche: How many people know about 428: Shibuya Scramble? Could most people have even named Live A Live before it got remade? Sadly, quality isn't a panacea and lots of great games get buried by bad marketing. It is sad.

Words from one of the special effects experts who worked for Warner: At one point they were developing a Superman film, when one of Warner's highest-ranking executives suggested that it would be better in the film if Superman was searching for his cape and thus wouldn't be able to fly. The expert thought it was a joke but no, all the 'wise men' agreed with the idea, and it was up to this man to explain very calmly and patiently that Super doesn't need the cape to fly! This is Waner, they know the characters, they know Batman and Superman among others, but they definitely don't know anything about them!
The "executives" don't know anything about the characters. Being people who never read comics or watched the shows, it is no wonder they wouldn't know anything!

The Brainiac in this game is an absolute dumbass. He's supposed to be one of the smartest beings in existence. Yet apparently, he thinks it's a good idea to fight the Suicide Squad by mimicking a justice league member they had already beaten and have the counter for. He somehow was able to corrupt a Green Lantern ring but can't hack into the bomb collars?. Even a brainwashed Batman gives much better advice to Brainiac on how to handle the Suicide Squad which he seemingly ignores. Very smart indeed.
Superman could have tossed all of them into low orbit in about 30 seconds. Flash already showed he can rip people's hearts out, why not pluck the Squad's? Green Lantern can just form a bullet proof shield and laser them from across town.
So called “12th intellectual being” when he tries to capture 4 buffoons (he wastes his arguably most valuable assets: the JL, while also underutilizing his equipment, as he has shown to be able to completely freeze the SQ, yet apparently never thinks to do it again. Never branches off his troops from the same 4 types we see in the game, and doesn’t think of just bombarding the planet after capturing its only real line of defense the planet had against him):
Suicide Squad is an ip tailor-made to turn based strategy games like XCom, especially with the large possible cast and the permadeath. Putting it into a live-service cast-based shooter really hampered the strengths of the series.
I have seen it all unfolding. The first gameplay reveal where you jump around and shoot purple pimples on enemies was enough to turn off a whole lot of people.
Destructoid saying "the writing is good , excellent even" is how this ppl demonstrate that they have no taste and don't know shit about writing, I hate game journalists
They literally called a CHILD "fun size" but I suppose since its Harley saying it yeah its excellent writing 😭 Game journalists taking bribes from companies is a major factor as to why most AAA games suck
Something I would say about this is something I put up on another video about this game: "Kill the Justice League" is simply not a good idea for specifically a Suicide Squad game, or at minimum how it was presented. The #1 story I always think of for the Suicide Squad is Task Force X from Justice League Unlimited, one of the better uses of the characters. In that episode, Task Force X (the Suicide Squad's name in that show since they couldn't use suicide) are tasked with infiltrating Justice League headquarters to steal a magical living artifact called The Annihilator for Amanda Waller and the government. The squad is pretty low powered with guys like Clock King, Captain Boomerang, Plastique and so on. They have to plan around the idea of avoiding the Justice League's heavy hitters, specifically striking the HQ when only three "major" superheroes (Green Lantern, Captain Atom and Martian Manhunter) are there and they have to rely on subterfuge to get what they want. They cause a distraction by blowing up the HQ's generator to draw away Captain Atom and when they do get into a fight it is against more street level heroes. And when Martian Manhunter appears it is dramatic and even scary (since we are following the villain's perspective): Descending from above, eyes glowing and asking if they *really* want to do this. They even end up having to sacrifice a member to escape, since the Martian Manhunter can largely take on the team (The Annihilator helps even the odds). In my mind, that's what I wanted from a Suicide Squad game. Give me something like Metal Gear Solid (MGSV sold 6 mil units in two months, Warner could definitely make money off of it) or Hitman, stealth action stuff. Instead of shooting the Justice League head-on, having to use other plans and avoid them until the time is right. Imagine having to avoid Superman's gaze as you sneak around to, say, set up some big tech device Lex Luthor had out of kryptonite to harm him or depower him enough to fight. Having to support Wonder Woman, who being IN the game could easily be used, in order for her to actually deal the killing blow. Stuff like that. A Suicide Squad game shouldn't be about confronting them face on! I have plenty of other complaints but I think a big thing is that they just made the wrong game for the property they were doing.
And can you believe those who defend this game tell us to Cope because we see it as not part of the Arkham universe? because it kind of taint the good name of that Universe?
Suicice Squad: A game nobody asked for, doubted with all the confidence of a supposedly triple A game (not a high bar these days), and immediately fell down the stairs the second everyone payed it a second of attention before catching on fire.
The narrative is atrocious if you are an Arkhan fan. Since the beginning, they already gave up on their fans and then proceeded to fail to appeal to the broader audience, with there being nothing to do gameplay-wise. Also none of the justice league deaths made sence ( exept for WW ) the flash should have killed them in half a second, like this story sucks and the gameplay is boring
Appealing to the "modern audience" Get used to hearing that from companies. Equally get used to seeing it as a red flag because that's what it is. One big red flag.
- Superman should have scooped them up and tossed them into low orbit in the blink of an eye. - Green Lantern could have just lasered them across town while hiding behind a bullet proof barrier. - Batman only loses because shooting a fear-induced hallucination hurts him or something.
Suprised you didn't even mention the sweet baby inc drama. Also you didn't mention how the braniac fights are just reskined JL fights instead of being his own thing
And then finally get your own boss battle (but wait! It turns out it’s just a shitty reskin of the first boss) Yeah, what were they thinking with this one
After reading some comments, if SBI as a consultancy has no real power to the development of the games, then why does it matter they were part of successful titles like Ragnarok, since they are negligible? If they can't sway the studio, why even hire them? Genuine questions towards the consultant worker.
i feel mildly bad for writing it off as dead from the first trailer alone when so many people had hope but... the precedent has been set in stone since way before it released. i'm not surprised it turned out to be a disaster 💀
Why would you feel bad? if anything you can pat yourself on the back for your foresight. Besides there are already too many gamers who eat this crap hoping it's different even when the signs of it being a disaster staring them in the face. They lost me with the battlepass leak but the co-op feature had me on the fence.
The writing was on the wall ever since the founders left the company, you either die a hero, or live long enough to see your hardwork being ruined by corpo hands and what's worse it has your name written all over it that it's still somewhat your fault.
*Additional Clue:* An autopsy indicates this live service had never had a pulse to begin with, being a cheap animatronic wearing a suit with an Arkham series stamp.

Honestly feel like a Suicide Squad concept would work really well in a tell tale format. The expendability and fluctuating morals of the squad would have fit a choose your own adventure story much better. That way you can make the squad as sympathetic or as irredeemable as you like to an extent without making it the morally confused clown show this story was
For me there was another major issue for this game that I just couldn't look past I DON'T WANT TO KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE Seriously. I don't WANT to do it. ^ This, all the way. From the moment, I heard the game's sub-title, I had ZERO interest in it. Then the words "live service" were uttered and I discovered that my expectations could go even lower.
That's your opinion though, at least you can just choose not to play the game. I personally find it interesting that the heroes for once are the bad guys while the villains are the protagonists.

Being set in the arkhamverse dealt a huge blow to the game as well since its just burned all of those games characters and story into the ground. Hell this harely is nothing like arkham harley.
It still irritates me how many games would've been better as single player titles, only to have "live service"slapped onto them. Just make one concrete linear single player game and sell it as is. After that you can just coast by on the success, or only suffer a temporary loss if it fails.

I should mention: Kevin Conroy loved playing evil/corrupt Batman. In various interviews he said it was a great way to explore the character and show people what they liked about Batman... by removing his empathy. He had finished recording years before his passing, so I doubt he knew this would be his final video game performance. He and Mark Hamill will play Batman & Joker in one more DC animated movie, so keep your eyes peeled for it. RIP Kevin Conroy.
The Joker In this game is same if not worse that Leto's version. The Jonkler. Compared to the original of Arkham is just insulting. Apart of how they killed Batman, it was also another part that was really awful for me. It feel they hated Arkham and what made it great. Pure hate showing completely in Harley's speech before killing Bats.
This segment(14:16) makes me think that Rocksteady flanderized the squads villainous traits, and left out any of the characters' noble or relatable quirks.
It was stillborn, people have just been playing the rotting corpse of it. Theirs a way this could have been great, likley as a single player or co-op game with more creativity allowed. Imagine captain boomerang, using boomerangs. Or king shark, eating people and stuff...
9:50 Both founders actually left Rocksteady in 2022 and not 2024 also to add, barely anyone at Rocksteady in 2022 had actually worked on any Arkham game prior. The company was already full of new people who didn't care about what came before, I don't know how Sefton and Jamie held out as long as they did.
The amount of pushback i got from fans every time I criticized this game prelaunch was crazy. It was always "let us have fun" etc when the signs were all clear that this would be a failure
The thing that separates this from Marvel's Avengers is that even though both these games are functionally singleplayer with a ton of unnecessary live service shit tacked on, Avengers actually was a decently fun game that made all their characters play like you'd expect, the story was trash, the progression was trash, the live service was trash, even the combat itself had issues but at least you could play characters like Iron Man or Thor and actually feel a little like Iron Man and Thor. Suicide Squad was just a generic 3rd person shooter with a DC coat of paint. The shooting is mostly fine from what I've seen but all characters play the same. So it has all the problems Marvel's Avengers has and none of the small positives. It was doomed to fail, while Marvel Avengers I feel could've been reworked and made into a decent live service if it was given to a more experienced team.
Calling the writing “good” seems like a giant stretch. The writing was terrible. The amount of times the justice league could have killed the suicide squad is ridiculous and the dialogue is extremely unfunny and grating
What about the horrible responses of the dev's to the fanbase? Didn't that also not a major reason. I mean, saying that we toxic and stuff because your game is bad will also ruin the future prospects of your game.
This plus Matt McMuscles "WHAT HAPPENED?", have to be the fastest death we ever seen AND the fastest videos to come out of both channels 😮 This 100 Million dollar live service dumpster fire stood NO chance! They're going to lose so much money...😂
DC needs to let the suicide squad die, they tried to get their own guardians of the galaxy and failed, there is many other teams in the comics that deserve more attention
Realistically the game would not be any better, but they could have aboided alotnof hate if they had juat chosen to not set it in the Arkham universe, like Gotham Knights. I remember the game being on sale for 50% off after just a month.
This is what happens when EXECUTIVES and SHAREHOLDERS make the key decisions for games. I feel so bad for the actual developers who more than likely knew how their game was going to be received. They took an opportunity for a great game and let these greedy people piss it all away in the hopes for some easy cash.. What damn shame
To make this even worse, right now this game is beaten out in player numbers on Steam by every other Arkham game, and it is by multiples. Origins has almost double, Asylum has over double, City has about 4x's and Knight is 10x's! And that is just active players, the 24 hour highs are way more extreme. It has barely more players right now than The Avengers, and The Avengers actually beat it out within its 24 peak. A delisted dead game had more people playing it than a game that came out 3 months ago: let that sink in. This game is dead, and I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the Seasons get canned within the year. I for one am not going to mourn its loss. Rocksteady was a brilliant studio, who made amazing, pioneering games crafted with love and care for this iconic character, and they threw it all away. I hope whichever writer that decided to kill the Justice League, and especially Batman (the beloved ARKHAM Batman, the one who MADE YOUR STUDIO!), in such a disrespectful way, that it was worth it. The fanbase could not have been more clear to the devs that this is not what they wanted. Sadly, it was probably already too late by the time WB started showing previews. Good. As usual people on Reddit and TH-cam pretend live service is the issue but this game is bad because of the gameplay. Live service is almost never the issue for any game that fails. In fact it's usually the opposite. Live service can save a bad game. See no man sky or bf2042.
This game came out on life support.
Then somebody tripped over the plug
This has to be the most blatantly DOA AAA game ever released in recent memory. EVERYONE knew this thing was doomed from the get-go. Let's run down the list:
1) It's a live-service game that demands constant internet connection.
Worse: this game was in development for 14 years, see the Wha Happen? Video on it
@@ojigbo With SWTOR that doesn't really count.

I use the "Batman is just a psychotic billionaire who beats up mentally ill people" take as a litmus test to see if someone has basic intelligence. And to have the most immoral version of Quin espouse that was stupid.
"You beat us up, we're only villains because of you"
Reminder: this Harley Quin once sent a bunch of game consoles rigged with explosives to several Gotham families around the holiday season.
Seeing the decline of Harley as a character over the last decade has been disheartening
She is still one of my favorite characters, but that's in spite of how she is depicted nowadays, I simply cannot stand it, they took away everything that made her actually likeable

Yeah when I heard that I scoffed.

Game journalists taking bribes from companies is a major factor as to why most AAA games suck
This should get a sequel called "Warner Bros kill the Suicide Squad"
Warner Bros kills the DC universe
That was probably the working title for this one
Suicide Squad: Kill any potential hype for future projects

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain..
And then finally get your own boss battle (but wait! It turns out it’s just a shitty reskin of the first boss)
Yeah, what were they thinking with this one
After reading some comments, if SBI as a consultancy has no real power to the development of the games, then why does it matter they were part of successful titles like Ragnarok, since they are negligible?
If they can't sway the studio, why even hire them?
Genuine questions towards the consultant worker.
is SBI in the room right now?
Crazy how you and Matt both put out a video about this game and its rocky development within days of each other.
Don't worry, I'll still watch this.
This game totally deserved all 100 percent of its death
i feel mildly bad for writing it off as dead from the first trailer alone when so many people had hope but... the precedent has been set in stone since way before it released. i'm not surprised it turned out to be a disaster 💀
It was dead the moment the title was revealed.
Why would you feel bad? if anything you can pat yourself on the back for your foresight. Besides there are already too many gamers who eat this crap hoping it's different even when the signs of it being a disaster staring them in the face.
They lost me with the battlepass leak but the co-op feature had me on the fence.
You are quite the prophet
The writing in suicide squad is brilliant.....now I see why most video game journalism is terribly written.
Now? Hasn't it been dogshit for almost a decade?

1. Publish a game nobody wants.
2. Nobody buys the game.
3. Surprised Pikachu face.
The writing was on the wall ever since the founders left the company, you either die a hero, or live long enough to see your hardwork being ruined by corpo hands and what's worse it has your name written all over it that it's still somewhat your fault.
*Additional Clue:* An autopsy indicates this live service had never had a pulse to begin with, being a cheap animatronic wearing a suit with an Arkham series stamp.
man, a suicide squad game with stories missions around the world, where you could pick your squad. If someone dies, nvm, there are 20 more to pick from.
could have been pretty cool.
Publisher's bad judgement choosing a studio that has no experience in online multiplayer games, and studio's arrogance denying the reality that it cannot handle the task.
Different sins, but both the publisher and the studio are equally responsible.
Im not sure its arrogant, they cant say they cant, then theyd just get fired
I do not understand the unwavering faith WB has for the Suicide Squad IP
You forgot sbi
No, it's a low IQ reason/excuse. Sorry.
14 years in the oven & it came out underbaked. Thanks Rock Steady👍
True. Then add a bunch of ingredients people don't like and it doesn't matter how long you bake it, no one's gonna want it.
Death of a Game and Wha Happun about the same game within days of each other? We eating good today.

Game made by a committee and pushed to a studio that was not able to make the requested game. It was doomed from the start and all the way it handled the IP was tragic.
Honestly feel like a Suicide Squad concept would work really well in a tell tale format. The expendability and fluctuating morals of the squad would have fit a choose your own adventure story much better.
That way you can make the squad as sympathetic or as irredeemable as you like to an extent without making it the morally confused clown show this story was
For me there was another major issue for this game that I just couldn't look past
I DON'T WANT TO KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE
Seriously. I don't WANT to do it. Having them fight other asshole characters, killing villains, etc. would've been fine and fun and totally doable. But I really, really didn't want to be gunning down my childhood icons. I have no interest in shooting John Stewart, Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne or Barry Allen
It is my opinion, yes. That's why I opened it with "for me" as I know every concept has it's fans and didn't want to speak for everyone, just myself
@@keetiesweetie3284I never understood why people need to make "in your opinion" comments. Like, yeah? Thanks for letting me know.
@niallreid7664 because people oft assume you are attempting to speak for a fanbase, like above mine, and so I try to head off such comments by clarifying that this is only my opinion
Looter shooters get old really fast and never should be a live service game.
A great example that you can’t really build around game as a service - Fun gameplay has to come first
"The writing is good, excellent even."
Uhhhhh... I wouldn't go that far.
I keep hearing reviews saying "it's a good story" or "excellent writing", but that can only be true if you don't care about the JL characters.
Even if you didn't, I still don't see how anyone could call it good.
Writting is good?! What?! That destructoid guy is crazy.
Not hard considering how they got paid by Rocksteady for that article lol
@@saber-san6270but even then how the fuck do you play a game where bommerang pisses on the flash and deadshot gets giddy about seeing his wee wee then say the game has excellent writing 💀
Even with money offered you gotta at least feel some type of discomfort like tf
I should mention: Kevin Conroy loved playing evil/corrupt Batman. In various interviews he said it was a great way to explore the character and show people what they liked about Batman... by removing his empathy. He had finished recording years before his passing, so I doubt he knew this would be his final video game performance. He and Mark Hamill will play Batman & Joker in one more DC animated movie, so keep your eyes peeled for it. RIP Kevin Conroy.
this would be the equivalent of killing kratos and then sony being surprised people didn't like it
The Joker In this game is same if not worse that Leto's version.
"the writing is excellent. " ...are they serious lol?
It was stillborn, people have just been playing the rotting corpse of it. Theirs a way this could have been great, likley as a single player or co-op game with more creativity allowed. Imagine captain boomerang, using boomerangs. Or king shark, eating people and stuff...

Both founders actually left Rocksteady in 2022 and not 2024 also to add, barely anyone at Rocksteady in 2022 had actually worked on any Arkham game prior.
Well, that's how Volition died. Good riddance.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Rocksteady Team is a more fitting title imo
This plus Matt McMuscles "WHAT HAPPENED?", have to be the fastest death we ever seen AND the fastest videos to come out of both channels 😮
This 100 Million dollar live service dumpster fire stood NO chance! They're going to lose so much money...😂
With games like overwatch, paladins, its hard to imagine why you would give super villians guns with no other unique abilities in a superhero game
go sweet baby inc go broke.
Interesting that you haven't mentioned the Sweet Baby Inc. having their disgusting claws in it.

“The writing is good”
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH
Because congratulations: you didn't just Kill the Justice League; you killed your studio.
The fanbase could not have been more clear to the devs that this is not what they wanted.
Sadly, it was probably already too late by the time WB started showing previews. Watching Avengers die must have been depressing since on some level they must have known that they were heading down the exact same path, but with a less beloved (by the mainstream) IP.
12:32 "Which for a game that reportedly cost at least 100 million to make."
Where did that 100 million go cause it most certainly didn't go into developing this game
Joker?
OHH, you mean the Jongler, I could see how you could make the mistake.
Given that there was a very easy out built into the story itself with its Multiverse aspect, saying that this was the Arkham games Batman always seemed odd.
I mean I get it from a commercial perspective, ‘hey remember that series of games you loved? This game you’re sketchy about is linked to them’ but from a story standpoint it was unlikely to work, even if they had handed it better than they eventually did.
