  • Due to some lingering health concerns and a horrible summer of rain and forest fire smoke in Canada, a full blown bike tour of Quebec was not in the cards for me so I developed a plan based on what I call hub/spoke touring. It goes as follows… drive to an interesting location, stow the car, ride to a camping site, and stay there for four or five days. Then, pack up and get in your car and relocate to a new cycling location. This allows me to do the thing that is not done on a longer tour of riding from point A to Point B… deeply exploring an area of superb cycling. Daily long rides in all directions on an unpacked and un encumbered bike - take my time and linger. My two planned base locations were centered around Granby and Sherbrooke in Quebec Province. For reasons that are revealed in the videos in this series, I only experienced the Granby portion.
This video covers day #1… stow the car and ride to Yamaska National Park for 5 days of camping and bike riding. But… my misunderstanding of the rules led to a major issue and put me in quite a dilemma.
Here is the web campaign intended to draw Americans to Quebec. These are web advertisements intended to highlight cycling opportunities within the southern and eastern regions of the Quebec province. They actually supply recommended routes design on the RIDE WITH GPS App for easy download to your cycling computer. I was surprised to not see the urban centers of Montreal and Quebec City and a few of the northern cycling attractions that Quebec has to offer.

Hi; I enjoyed your video. Looks like you ran into an issue at Yamaska. I’ve stayed there while bike touring as well (including 6 other national parks in Quebec on my bike as well) and I love the “Bienvenue Cycliste” program they offer. However, they seem to love their rules and they change from park to park. I stayed at Parc du Bic in July and they would also not let me book two nights in a row. I had to go back and book the second night in the morning. There always seems to be a work-around! Don’t let that turn you off staying at any other national parks though - they offer so much more than private campgrounds. Ride safe!
