Cleaning VNT/VGT in 2.0D/HDI/TDCI Volvo Ford Peugeot Citroen

  • Clogged variable-geometry turbocharger will restrict nozzles movement which can cause power loss, engine trouble code and limp mode. In engines: Volvo 2.0D, Ford 2.0TDCi, Peugeot/Citroen 2.0HDI 136PS turbocharger is located behind the engine which makes it hard to access in order to disassemble and clean VNT mechanism from soot and carbon deposits that causes problems.
    There is a way that lets you clean your VGT without disassembling turbocharger from your car. After removing EGR valve and EGR cooler you can insert carbon dissolving agent through the exhaust manifold. After 45 minutes carbon deposits and soot will be dissolved by the oven cleaner and your variable nozzle turbine will again move in full range.
    Notice that this method is experimental. You are doing it at your own risk. Do not inhale chemical fumes and do not touch it with your skin.

    This took me most of the day. The heat shield has its own copper nut, 13mm.

    Good clear instructive video and it worked really well on my 2.0 hdi. However, there is no need to remove/touch the EGR valve. Only the EGR cooler needs to be removed (I have tried both these methods) Great video thank you.

      Thanks for the tip! I was cleaning the EGR valve/cooler at the same time as well, that's why I disassembled it all.

    So you spray the cleaner into the egr port on top of the exhaust manifold?
    Could this be done from the exhaust port on side of the turbo?

    Hi. Could you please advise where to put oil catch can in this motor. There are two holes one in front "before" breather and on on the back of the engine "after" breather valve. Big thanks for help

    Can you please do a video on how to remove and refit the turbo on the Citroen C4 2.0 HDI 2005 5 door VTR plus or if you know of a video on TH-cam that would be fantastic?

    If you disconnect only the coolant hose,near the EGR...i think from there you can insert long slim hose and spray into the Turbo ???

    Super video! Pozdrawiam!

    I need to do this to my 2009 v50 with dpf fitted. What's the recommended procedure with a dpf? Getting 'turbo boost pressure low' error message. Do the rubber hoses to the dpf also need blowing out?

    Rozumie, ze aby wyjac chlodnice spalin, trzeba odlaczyc przewod z plynem chlodniczym. Czy nie spowoduje to zapowietrzenia ukladu?

    • @mrfixpl

      Może spowodować, ale EGR jest najwyższym punktem układu i to tam się go odpowietrza (o ile dobrze pamietam).

    Hi, I have Volvo V50 2.0D and my problem is as follows: sometimes the car loses power, will not rev over 1000 RPM and it's impossible to drive. After a while everything is back to normal. Any ideas?
    And do you have a video about changing the glowplugs?
    Greetings!

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any messages on the dashboard?
      I have a video about removing EGR valve. Glow plugs are just below.
      Also there's a video about checking glow plugs with multimeter without removing plugs from the car with an example in 2.0D Volvo.

    • @JoosepHallikas
      @JoosepHallikas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I get the engine system service required message. Today I used a fault codes reader and I saw Glow plug Circuit A message. But other than that nothing. I had similar issues around a year ago, then I cleaned the EGR, maybe it's time to do that once again. Which fluid did you use to clean the VNT/VGT?
      I will try to measure the glow plugs tomorrow. I also had various electrical issues but cleaning the CEM cleared those problems :). I think I will probably clean everything in the near future, hoping that something will clear the issues.
      My car is a 2004 and without DPF

      I have cleaned mine from the exhaust side and it was moving better but after 1 day stuck again. Now I am cleaning it from the egr side like Mr Fix will see how it goes.

    Hi. Great vidoes you have! I have exact same car(c30 2.0D 2007)with 200000 km and planning to clean both egr and turbo. But wouldn't all the carbon gunk from your oven cleaner clog up in the diesel patricular filter?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's why I'm not recommending this method in cars with DPF. One of two things might happen:
      carbon deposits will move from turbo to DPF and clog it or both turbo and EGR will remove deposits.

    • @DoubtingThomas333
      @DoubtingThomas333 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rodgeir H. Nilsen no, it wouldn't. It's broken down and somewhat dissolved by the cleaning agent and then when the DPF gets hot enough it will regenerate by burning off anything within it. 3000 rpm on the highway for 10-20 minutes should do it.
      Stock standard DPF preventative maintenance.

    some Peugeot HDI turbos are in front of engine

      Yeah, like 1.6HDi 110PS.

    • @gilbertadam64
      @gilbertadam64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a 2.0 litre HDI he is working on and the turbo is hidden down the back of the engine and the same engine is in Volvo 2.0D, Ford 2.0TDCi, Peugeot 2.0 & Citroen 2.0 and is difficult to work on due to its location, unlike the 1.6HDI that is conveniently located on the front of the engine. Unfortunately, I own a Citroen C4 2.0 HDI and the turbo isn't working, so much more work involved removing and refitting. Wish I had the 1.6!

    I have a dpf filter on my Ford Galaxy 2.0 tdci how best to my clean my turbo?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can do one of two:
      1. Remove turbo, so you can inspect it, disassemble, clean and put it back together.
      2. Hydrogen engine cleaning - but this in my opinion mostly placebo.

      I think Removing the DPF before the procedure should work? Just make sure all the stuff is blown out before reinstalling it.

    Hello, when I connect the syringe to the vaccum hose and push it in and out, I can hear air leaking from near the turbo.. is this normal? I haven't added the chemical agent yet as I wanted to test it dry to see if it would make a difference. Many thanks.
