@@fish_tails5557 i know this isn't what you meant, but i think it is worth noting that the 3ds era was actually the most successful era for pokemon in terms of the percent of a console's playerbase buying the games which is why even though sales didn't really increase from the ds era, the 3ds era was still considered to be the end of pokemon's decline in popularity. when you look at the best selling game and compare it as a percentage to the console it is on you can see this so i'll do the calculations for you since it is pretty interesting: red & blue - 26% ruby & sapphire - 12% diamond & pearl - 9% x & y - 21% (increased in sales too on far less popular hardware) sword & shield - 18% these numbers are rough and not to be taken as an accurate measure of quality or popularity but they still show a story. pokemon was on a clear decline, you can argue that the ds era is roughly as popular as the gba era because the ds era declining is in part due to the larger casual audience who purchased less games. so yeah, not a 100% accurate depiction of quality, but it is clear that the 3ds era shot up considerably in terms of franchise interest despite sales only going up by a couple million over the previous system.
I played every mainline series game over the last couple years and USUM was hands down my favorite games. I loved these games and it was such a shock to me that they had so much hate. It really seemed like these were the last games GF really put everything they had into a release and the fans really didn't appreciate it. We haven't gotten anything on that level since.
Some of the complaints are dumb too, people said exp share made the game easy because somehow exp share is the cause of overleveling and not the player? Also it’s dumb cause ultra sun and moon had things like trials and had high difficulty spikes so if overleveling made the game easy it was the players fault cause when you play the intended way the game is actually super hard, in fact it was my first entry to pokemon and after playing more of the games I genuinely found them all easier then ultra sun and moon
You don’t understand how much this brings me joy, I have always loved usum and I would defend it so hard, being able to hear that other people actually like it makes me so happy
always taught that Ultra Soon/Moon was the best game of the series. Black/White 2 story i think is a little bit better but probably is because my nostalgia speaking.
Pokemon USUM were my favorite Pokemon games of all times and the last Gen that I really enjoyed. Both Megas and Z-moves available thus all battle gimmicks at the time were available. Literally all Pokemon that exist can be obtained and transferred in the game. An ingame counter mid-battle so you would know how many turns are left for trickroom, tailwind, taunt, weather etc is left. Amazing story. I understand it has flaws like -being restricted in the festival plaza just to stay connected online -too much cutscenes -too much hand holding. Etc But for me, this is the peak of Pokemon and the best games and the best Gen. Say what you will about Gen 7. USUM has more content, more polished and has all Pokemon(and forms) that currently exist. None of the Pokemon games from the switch was able to achive the massive amount of content and playable characters USUM had.
@@NoHsHad0 I only won against Ultra Necrozma because my Incineroar's Malicious Moonsault dealt a critical hit. Mega evolutions, z-moves, Ash-Greninja, Ultra Beast, primal reversion, & shiny hunting older legendary Pokémon! I’ve been playing since RBY this is the best Pokémon game.
I loved all the side quests, like the lost pokeball and the alolan vulpix. You didn't mention that you can pet the interactable pokemon if you talk with them enough, and then when they see you, they'll run up to you and show a little heart emote ❤. Shoutout to the Rockruff putside Iki town.
It doesnt have to be your favourite, but to act like gamefreak didnt put their heart and soul into sending the handheld era off with gen 7 is a crime. These games should not be written off as quickly as they are - definitely in my top 5
Finally someone who understands! Pokémon USUM is hated so much online. I almost never see people defending it anymore. The games have their problems (Ahem, the Cutscenes) but overall they are just so fun, and in my opinion, a huge improvement over sun and moon
Not gonna lie here USUM are my favorite games in the series to date the whole Alola region is my favorite S&M and USUM are my favorite pokekemon games of all time I loved the story in both sets of games and still love Z-moves god i love these games
One underrated thing usum has over sumo is its music. Between the improved remixes, team rocket base and new themes (while still keeping most of the music in sumo), it might be the best pokemon ost of all time
And with this, although there isn’t an official national dex, it’s the last mainline game where every pokemon CAN be transferred into the game even without a dex entry
Apart from some minor details and insults to this game(which I'll get to later) Pokemon USUM is by far 1 of my favorite Pokemon games of all time. As someone who grew up in the Caribbean I love the island vibes of this region of Alola and it's people/characters. As well as the new Pokemon themselves which I adore than any other game prior. Also for the record I fine the retelling of the story in this was fine, I actually rather had in the Lillie help fighting the evil Team Rainbow Rocket rather than her own mother(which you can't battle directly in the original Sun & Moon btw). Interacting with some of the trails and kahuna battles was very challenging and fun,all of the side quest games like character customization, finding the totem stickers,Mantine surfing & taking pictures/photos with my Pokemon(and yes I do that cause I do that for my team that help me progress) and the Poke pelago which if you don't know the man running it (Mohn) happens to be Lusamine's late lost husband who they reunited in the post game which was sweet. Apart from that there's also the Pokemon to catch including the 4 Tapus, the ultra beasts and all of the legendary Pokemon in Alola which from my calculations has probably the largest number legendaries in this game(also including the ones in the ultra wormhole). There are more things I can talk about but my point still remains, it's one of the best Pokemon games I ever had the most fun playing for a long time and still enjoy it to this day. And side tangent: As so called bad Hau is he as much as everyone else in this game and is much more of a better final challenge than Geeta in S & V, heck after battling 4 of the toughest elite four members it's a nice change of pace just to ease it down with someone that won't make you waste more of your potions. I respect Hau even tho he is a tool.

USUM is my favorite in the franchise for a pretty specific reason... The Battle Tree!! The Battle Tree is definitely the best if all the Battle Facilities, including the Switch games. I STILL breed and build teams for Battle Tree Super Doubles runs! The USUM Battle Tree moee closely resembles actual competitive VGC than any othwr facility. Going a long streak is super satisfying and you TRULY need to have your wits about you. There are definitely some incredibly cheesy/aggravating teams and sefs you encounter but it only adds to how fun it is!
Ultra Sun is the best Pokemon game i ever played to date, and I played all the mainline games. They may not be appreciated now, but their time will come. Im just glad we're the first one to realize its glory while most people hates them.
These games will always be my guilty favorite since it's what brought me back to Pokemon. I haven't played Pokemon since the DS era. I don't care if it's "bad", I enjoyed it immensely otherwise I wouldn't have poured over 1000 hours in it.
I think if USUM was just what the original games were, no one would've complained. In my opinion they're better than SM in pretty much every way. The problem is that gen 7 does feel like quite a hurdle to play through for various reasons. So making us do it again poisoned the waters. If Alola had just had the USUM games rather than both them and SM, it might've been received better. And could've left room for a B2/W2 inspired sequel game instead.
The biggest gripe.I had with this game was the game locking you out of exploring when you needed to do the quests, and forcing you out of the world to show you how to take pictures or the festival. It is not the biggest problem but so much dialogue. Also the totem pokemon isn't really my favorite.
Don't get me wrong, I despise USUM for not being sequels, changing Lillie & Lusamines story, and not adding anything other than the photoclub and Mantine surfing, but I do replay them for the aesthetics of Alola. It's probably one of the few pokemon games I play walking not running, but, I prefer S&M better.
