The Mood sounds like a West African guitar orchestra! I don't use a ton of FX on bass, but I do use a Blues Driver clone and a Bass Driver DI. My BD-2 clone is a Mooer Blues Mood, and it has a fat switch, a la the Waza and Keeley BD-style pedals, which sounds great on bass. I like to crank the gain on it. It sounds pretty fuzzy when cranked. I also use a Durham Sex Drive (old-school blues lawyer boost) as a compressor. Then there are the ones that annoy the crap out of my band mates: Boss BF-3 Flanger and Ibanez ES-2 Echo Shifter.
Thanks for sharing the board, Megan. I really appreciate you voicing your thoughts on the pedals as to why they’ve earned a spot in the board. And the riffing really showcased each pedal’s strengths. Although we’re never finished in our quest, you’ve really found a voice with the bass.
I love this board! It reflects my own balance of drive and modulation/time-based pedals and has everything one would need as a live and recording rig. I'm definitely going to try moving the tuner to see how it works with wrangling in 2 noisy drive pedals in my chain.
That DC-2w sounded sooo cool on bass. Very inspiring, I have try modulation as well. I can also confirm that the dagger is wicked for bass distortion. This and the boss hm-2w are one of my favorites for that sound.
Dude the HM-2w was soooo close to making it on here. The custom mode is so good right?! As much as it pains me to leave it off, the dagger is just so much more versatile.
@@MeganL yes the custom mode is where it’s at! But you’re right. You could probably set the Dagger to cover the HM-2w sound, but not vice versa. Another hidden gem I’m gonna demo soon: Ground Control Locust. Kinda gated, Velcro distortion. Does that clean guitar/distorted bass contrast you were talking about super well.

Love the board! I got a chase bliss mood on bass it’s wonderful on one side I use it as a chorus and the other a black hole type verb. It replaced my h9 awhile ago just the loop alone is amazing it gets ton of use. Love the sans amp! Don’t know if you know this but the sans amp is a old school amp sim of a svt the blend knob works kinda like the cab sim. Been using a sans amp for years it’s probably the best tool for any job.
Are you in band? I still go back to some of those riffs in the small sound big sound video, you have an original style and I want to see you do something with your talent.
Have you tried your Lil Fella with Bass? It seems to be at least as popular with Bass than on guitar. I've yet to run it through - I am thinking of building a separate mini bass rig though, using my Digitech Bass Synth wah and some affordaboard pedals - I think I could convert my Zoom G1x Four into the Bass version which I'm pretty excited about too. Nice to hear that about the Blues Driver. I can't really afford a second rig atm and I just picked up Bass and I have that on there. Do you think it's worth investing in the Waza version? Btw, a little bit of spring reverb can sound fantastic on a bright bass, like a jazz bass. Good call on the DC sounds pretty good! Definite 80s post punk/goth kinda vibe. You'd also be surprised how good a Vibe sounds on Bass too - I've been messing around with my Nux Mighty Plug before trying my pedalboard with it.
Ah yeah haven't tried the lil' fella with the bass yet but it'd probably be awesome. Will have to give that a go. I had the waza BD-2 briefly and wasn't a huge fan of it on guitar and sold it before I tried it with bass. The stock blues driver seems to have enough low end for me though so not sure it's worth tracking a waza down again to try. Also yes to the spring reverb! I use the ghost echo on bass when I want that sound!
I was surprised to see no comp on your bass board. As a guitar player who also plays the bass to my own stuff, I turn into a crybaby (not the wah, the small whiney human) when I have to "bass with no comp".
Yeah I feel a bit naked without one haha. I use the fairfield accountant usually and the only reason it's not on this board is because I only have one and it's on my guitar board! But since I'm just recording I just add compression in post and it works ok.
