I like the sidestick very much because it enables you to have the table infront of you.
Fab video again. No wonder you still needed the LS indicators on - that sunlight and reflections on the water seemed to make it a potentially very tricky approach. Question. In Managed mode, I understand the Autopilot will obey the constraints of the MCDU in speed and altitude, etc, so that for example, it can calculate what descent rate it needs to achieve a ceratin level at a given point, but in Selected mode, when in Open Descent - if it has no 'target' - what dictates the rate of descent?
Thanks! We usually keep the ILS indication on during a visual approach. This improves our situational awareness. In open descent, the power is at idle and the target is the selected or managed speed. The resulting vertical speed is variable.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks. I understand that now. I've tried the ILS approach in the Flight Sim, but am now going to try the visual approach like this one. Keep the videos coming please, they're so helpful.

Hello Captain 👨✈️! Thank you very much for this great video. The quality really improves with every video! I really appreciate your effort! I'm always happy when the captain talks to the passengers. Not all pilots do that (unfortunately). My favourite island is Mallorca, but Ibiza is also great! I really enjoyed the flight over the island of Mallorca and the airport of Palma de Mallorca! It's always amazing how small such a big airport can look from above. The approach to Ibiza airport was also beautiful to watch. The sun reflecting over the sea during the short-final must have been very disturbing. Luckily you had sunglasses on 🕶️. The co-pilot wasn't wearing any. I hope the bird shown is ok. That was a very close call. I always find it a bit strange when pilots and controllers radio to each other in their native language and not in English. I have another small question: How many ft/min do you climb/sink at most of the time? Do you ever climb or descend at ± 3500 ft/min during normal flight operations? I am curious and hope for an answer! I also hope to see a video from Palma de Mallorca soon! best regards
Thank you so much for watching and for your extensive feedback! We did not hit the bird. I assume that it is still ok and enjoying Ibiza. Climbrates of more than 3500 feet are possible. We may see that during the takeoff with a not very heavy airplane. Descents with more than 3500 feet happen on a regular basis, usually if we are at higher altitudes and above the ideal descent profile. We do not want to descent with more than 6000 feet per minute as long as we are above 10.000 feet. Below 10.000 feet we use much lower rates as we get closer to the ground. There are a few Palma de Mallorca videos already available on my channel. Here are 2 links: th-cam.com/video/FdQKx2ExdLs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/CnYQCzdpNI0/w-d-xo.html
There is a Nice approach here on the channel. It was filmed with one camera on a rainy day. th-cam.com/video/mfLyntp1Cns/w-d-xo.html here may be coming more videos with wind or rain. Especially in the southern areas the weather is usually good. Please stay tuned.
Thanks. I do not release any details about the equipment and about how the audio and video recording is done. This may change in the near future. But for now I ask for your understanding.
I remember plane spotting at Ibiza with my ATC Radio where I was behind runway 24 next to the DC-10 nightclub in I think an abandoned car park. It was fascinating. Stefan, which has been the most challenging flight(s) you’ve done? Problems with the plane, passenger problems or extreme turbulence?
Thanks for sharing your very personal experience! I am in the lucky position that the airplanes which I fly are very well maintained. Technical issues are very rare. Most of the flying is uneventful. Sure, we have to circumnavigate clouds, sometimes it is bumpy during the approach or a sick passenger requires an expedited approach. Once in a while we have to go around due to a blocked runway or a windshear. This is part of our normal job. We are trained for that and handle it professionally.
Thank you very much for the detailed information. It’s very Interesting how you do it. Would there be any chance you can include a little bit of cruising altitude and some go arounds in your videos?
@@motorcycleaddict50 If the cameras are running and we have to do a go around I would share it. Until now, I did not tape a go around because they are very rare.
Good suggestion. But you would not see a lot of movement. We use the rudder pedals only for taxiing, during the takeoff and landing roll and during the flare at crosswind landings.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your very personal feedback! There is no reason to get nervous about the takeoff! There are also several takeoff and departure videos here on the channel. I suggest that you watch one or the other video to get a good impression about what we do during the takeoff. I wish you lots of nice flights! Have a great day!
We can use German or English. All procedures, callouts, manuals and conversations with ATC are in English. So it is usually a mixture between both languages.
I would love to do that. That would be great. But we cannot do that because we have very different passengers onboard. Some even prefer to sleep onboard until the landing to arrive very relaxed and be ready for Ibiza.
lovey approach and beautiful content, as usual! Seeing a leaerner is also a big plus... question: right before touchdown and after "retard" what does it says?
Thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback! The Airbus says always "retard" as a reminder to move the thrust levers to idle thrust for the landing.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos yes i understand about the "retard" calling, was wondering at 29.48, right after retard, it calls something else, i would say 5 (following GPWS) but seems more like "drive".... Also thank you for taking the time to answer the comments, you guys are really great!!!
I think this happened to a small general aviation airplane which was on the same radio frequency. It can happen in the same way like if you forget to put the fuel tank cover back after refueling your car.
The windscreen has several layers and is very impact resistant. Usually, the windscreen stays intact after a bird strike. Sure, it would need cleaning and an inspection by a certified mechanic.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos US Airways 1549. Hudson River ditching. You have cameras in the cockpit, it would be interesting to see a belly landing in the water from a pilot's perspective. 😂

There is a Nice approach here on the channel. It was filmed with one camera on a rainy day. th-cam.com/video/mfLyntp1Cns/w-d-xo.html
here may be coming more videos with wind or rain. Especially in the southern areas the weather is usually good. Please stay tuned.
Superb ... I wanted to know where did you put the camera pointing towards the ND and PFD?
Thanks. I do not release any details about the equipment and about how the audio and video recording is done. This may change in the near future. But for now I ask for your understanding.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos okey okey dont worry Thank you very much for the answer .... anyway congratulations for the wonderful videos
@@jonfly3836 Thank you very much!
That’s fine. Thank you
Just a question what charts are you using?
The charts are made by Lufthansa Systems: Lido mPilot and Lido eRoute Manual.
You guys are amazing . Beautiful pictures of the sky,and landscape.❤️🌟🏞
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! Have a wonderful day!
only suggestion i think rudder pedals may have camera
Good suggestion. But you would not see a lot of movement. We use the rudder pedals only for taxiing, during the takeoff and landing roll and during the flare at crosswind landings.
Real life Venga Airways!
That's right! Have a nice day!
I get nervous about take off 😬 from Laura
Thanks for watching and for sharing your very personal feedback! There is no reason to get nervous about the takeoff! There are also several takeoff and departure videos here on the channel. I suggest that you watch one or the other video to get a good impression about what we do during the takeoff. I wish you lots of nice flights! Have a great day!
the pilot sits so high up and his arms are stretched to reach the controls. i wonder how comfortable that is.
This is the perfect seating position for me. Very comfortable.
If you weren't producing these for us and your First Officer was another German speaker, would you still use English in the cockpit normally Stefan?
We can use German or English. All procedures, callouts, manuals and conversations with ATC are in English. So it is usually a mixture between both languages.
Lucky bird at 29:41😂
We were lucky too!
Listen captain you need to prime the passengers for a huge party. It's Ibiza and needs a D.J onboard cranking beats
@@TheEldarioThis was a Five callout from the radar altimeter.
Open fuel tank!! how the hell does that happen? lol
I think this happened to a small general aviation airplane which was on the same radio frequency. It can happen in the same way like if you forget to put the fuel tank cover back after refueling your car.
If the bird had smashed the windscreen imagine what this could do for the channel! 💰💰💰
„Deutschlandzeit“ - Relevant für die Balearen
Bei Zeitangaben im Flugzeug sage ich immer die Zeitzone dazu, auf die ich mich beziehe. Die Balearen liegen in der gleichen Zone, wie Deutschland.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos .. ach ne.
36'36, bird...
At 29:42 you see it just passing by. And at 36:35 you see it zoomed in when we speak about it in the debriefing.
Please make take off video
There are several takeoff videos from different airports available here on the channel. The most popular one is our London LHR departure: th-cam.com/video/eJGAgZc1w5A/w-d-xo.html There may be also an Ibiza takeoff video published. Please stay tuned!
