    With all the SUVs I've compared throughout the years, the Odyssey puts them all to shame in terms of family practicality and practicality in general. Period. Good review....again. Your comment about conspicuous consumption was well received. We currently own a Toyota Highlander and I can give you plenty of examples of friends and family asking me questions about our "van".

    My wife drives a '14. It is a super car for anything. We still take my old Bentley for longer trips but I like driving that van any old time.

    I currently have the previous generation Odyssey, and I'm glad to see that they corrected one of my complaints. In my van, the middle bucket seats lose their armrest when the center seat is taken out. The new middle row seats have built-in armrests on each side, which I appreciate.

    I used to have an SUV but trying to get little kids in the back is a pain. Also the lack of space Tom mentions in the pilot was my other gripe. What good were all those seats when you couldn't bring anything with you. Vans may have a negative image but I'm positive I'm happy.

    I have had my 2018 Odyssey for less than a month and it has been in the shop for half the time. It has had radio problems since the day we got it. Honda tech support is working with my dealership to figure out the problem and after changing out the tuner for a new one with updated software, still broken. According to my service person, my Odyssey is not the only one having this problem.

  • @Pikminiman
    @Pikminiman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I ever have three or more children, getting an Odyssey will be a priority for me. Until then, I'm still a sedan person at heart. Crossovers don't make sense to me, except when the owner has real environmental need for AWD. And even then, the Sienna has AWD. If you want utility, minivans win every time. And you can't even make the sportiness argument, since that acceleration clip in this video is impressive. All that, plus a minivan will be easier to park than an SUV.

    Sliding doors are great, until they break. My dad’s got a 2014 Sienna and the passenger side sliding door hasn’t been able to close on its own for a year, and nobody including the dealer can figure it out. If there weren’t three kids and all our stuff in my family, we’d have something like a Ford Flex, which has plenty of passenger room and it’s low too, aiding ingress and egress. The only problem is the comparatively tiny trunk, and of course the fact that they don’t make it anymore.

    People are such copycat crowd mentality creatures. That's the only reason I can imagine why small to medium SUVs are the go to vehicle for families. There is absolutely NO comparison. A minivan is the ultimate in convenience, comfort, and practicality.

    Sorta late to this review but theres some things that car reviewers everywhere have totally missed out on.. namely some poor design choices that make you scratch your head. #1 - they moved the air vents from the top to the middle (2nd row, right by the sliding doors and 3rd row right behind the 2nd row seats). In previous models, not only were you allowed 360 degrees of angle on the vents but since they are higher, it allows for better air flow. More specifically, this has outraged families with rear facing car seats - since this blocks the air to the child.. lots of stories of little ones being too hot. #2 - If you couple all this with the fact that they removed the rear AC condenser you've got a lot of cases where people are going to be hot, especially in the 3rd row. Also, this means that the front AC condenser is now responsible for handling all that cooling and if you are in the front - people have reported it being way too loud. Are there no people at honda that have small kids and live in some places in the U.S. that receive nearly 9 months of hot summer weather? It was in the mid 90's (heat index above 100) for nearly a week straight recently here in central Florida. #3. They removed the rear speakers for all models except the Elite trim. #4. No more Lanewatch. I know you could argue that its unnecessary but I have found it to be extremely helpful, whether on a road trip or at night. I have a touring 2016 model and i didnt get the Elite because the Blind Spot was hard to see in the daytime and with the radio on - was hard to hear. In other words, not usable at all. I would much rather have visuals on my surroundings. At least give people the option of picking a trim with it over the Blind Spot. Is Honda turning into cost friendly vs family friendly?

    • @djcordes4352
      @djcordes4352 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kadad5220 I just bought a new Odyssey. I drove both and the handling, acceleration, comfort and safety rating is hands down better for the Odyssey. The Odyssey is stunningly silent too and railroad and pot hole infested roads are almost unnoticeable. I used to have a 2014, but the new one is amazing. I’ve owned a 2008, 2013 and 2014 Honda’s Odysseys and that’s buy far my favorite one. LOVE IT!

      @@Santu1939 I have covered a lot more than automotive over the years and have put my life at risk more than once doing it (not that either of those is a threshold, automotive writers can be excellent journalists).
      I will not go down the rabbit hole of politics. But The Donald has openly praised Greg Gianforte for assaulting a reporter in his bid for Congress last year. He has mocked a NYT colleague with a physical disability. He jeers the press at rallies and fans the flames. He sets the tone. I'm not talking about "hurt feelings", journalists typically have incredibly thick skins. I know news crews at rallies that are screamed at simply because they are in the press risers (and this is not just CNN). Some don't feel physically safe. Would you tolerate that kind of behavior towards friends and family? Hopefully not.

      @@DrivenCarReviews I have never seen or heard of journalists being assaulted or harassed by Trump supporters, however I've seen anti Trump people assault Trump supporters, destroying properties. Maxine Waters openly called for harassment to Trump supporters and his cabinet's members. I've always thought Americans are very civilized and educated, but the democrats just look like a bunch of savages. Also, the media always shows how the immigrants to like Trump, but the truth is there are lots of immigrants that love him.
