Hi everyone, I am now 74 and have five hole-in-ones under my belt. I am self-taught and have shot a 73 on a par 72 course (years ago). With that said, I have bought over the years all kinds of training aids (and sold them!) and have read many books and watched I don't know how many videos. Just a few days ago I came across a video of Brian Sparks. I watched him swing the club and had myself a little chuckle. Well, I performed his "HAPPY DANCE" and yes, I found it easy to do, my back didn't hurt, and I did not feel the tension I had before. "THANK YOU, MR. SPARKS,". You have revived my golf game!
This man is so funny in his delivery because I can relate to all the pain (mentally) golf can cause. I have tried so so many swings and lessons and here today gone tomorrow. When trying this method watching and reading I was amazed at how loosey goosey I have become in my swing. Super relaxed and I am really on auto pilot . Really give it a try. Golf has become so analytical. I still watch Brian's video's though he is gone and am still amazed at its simplicity. It looks so crazy looking when you first see it but it really works.
Hi! I had commented on your video awhile back describing how enjoyable this method has become for me. I just posted this comment on a Julian Milnor video and I thought you might enjoy it. Here goes: “Hi Julian, I wanted to pass along a major golf milestone for me which I can directly attribute to the positive impact golf methods and your videos. I started practicing your methods in early February and my consistency, distance and enjoyment has steadily increased since then. Picture this: yesterday I was standing on the tee of our number 8, 153 yard par 3 hole. There was a gusty 20 mph wind left to right. I selected a 5 iron this time where typically my 150 yard club is a 6 iron. I did my la dance du golf, a couple of easy waist high swings, addressed the ball, relaxed and let it go. The ball took off, drew nicely left to right, bounced in the green, rolled 8 feet and in the hole it went! I’m a 70 year old left handed golfer and have been playing golf for 50 years. This was my first hole in one. Thank you coaches! I couldn’t be happier.”
Awesome and brutally honest about traditional golf instruction. I had the very same epiphany when I found Brian and read his book. His book really is a recreational golfers mana from heaven! Thanks for the honest review..
Easy Swing method lifting front foot and head moving allows a full turn. Results are increased ball speed / distance for myself. As a senior this makes the game more enjoyable.
Great vid and thanks for your honesty. I used to drive between 210-220yds but now 240-250 using this easy swing method and no back pain. It’s a testament to Brian Sparks’s genius!
Hello Mr PheasantKiller. I gave this a try about 10 months ago after watching a few TH-cam videos. I started striking the ball beautifully almost immediately, but decided to wait a year before posting a review, as we all know how form can come and go. 10 months have now passed, and I have yet to have a bad day on the course. I couldn't say that in my previous 34 years of playing the game. Good and bad alternated from week to week. I now hit the ball more consistently, straighter, and further than I ever have done before. I have posted a good review on Brian's page, but feel I owe you one too. I think you are brave to face the TH-cam trolls and speak from your heart. It was probably your videos more than any other that persuaded me to try it. Can't thank you enough!
+LordBransty Thank you so much. Yes, I knew that putting my ugly swing in front of God and Country is a risky proposition. But I felt it was important to get the word out about Brian's approach to coaching. Maybe its time we start taking the science out of golf and start a little bit more artistry? :) Good luck!
First off I want to say this was certainly one of the better home made videos I've seen. VERY informative. Another very important thing that Mr. Pheasant killer doesn't touch on much ,which was why I switched to this swing, was that the Positive Impact approach is EASY on your body. Less wear and tear on your joints. Which means MORE time playing golf!! I can attest, being over 40, that this was a HUGE reason why I learned this swing. My elbows, knees and back all feel much better after a season of using this swing!!! Good luck to you all!!
Thanks for posting, I have just got into positive impact golf at the age of 54 and I too seem to have tried everything to put a decent round together and the method is manna from heaven, what a difference. One thing I want to add is to make sure you know where your centre of balance is. I say this because I have an old back injury and wondered why all mu drives went right no matter what any Pro taught me, turns out if I play my driver out of the centre of my stance they go straight. Because of my back problem the centre of my stance has moved closer to my back foot. As it happens Julian Mellor covers this in his videos.
Great video ... I totally agree that a relaxed easy swing that allows the body to turn and keep arms quiet really works. Paul Wilson out of Vegas advocates a version of the Brian Sparks swing.
This is the best method I have ever tried. I have tried everything but this one actually works. One simple thought - le dance du golf. I am killing it and golf is freaking fun again. It's basically like Bobby Jones or Sam Snead's golf swing.
Great video... I read Brian's book and actually went on a Positive Impact one days course. Although I enjoyed and completely bought into the theory in principle the penny didn't drop for me immediately. After dabbling with it I wandered off and tried other methods, without much success. Then one day on the range I just let go. I taught myself to completely relax my arms and shoulders and just use my body to whip them through. I couldn't believe it, I was absolutely striping the ball with no effort.. ! Then I remembered Positive Impact... " The body turns right, the body turns left". It's dead right, that's all you have to do... Forget you even have arms or are holding a club, just turn right then left with rhythm and tempo... So simple. 😊
I'm laughing because we are kindred souls. I have a whole bookshelf of golf books, and none allow me to swing and play golf without pain. It takes me days to recover from a round of golf. Hunched over and shuffling along the morning after playing golf is no way to live. I must try this method. And your swing looks pretty good to me! Much thanks brother!
You are RIGHT ON sir. Similar experience and you have summarized it perfectly. I only wish I’d done the easiest swing from the start 50 years ago. So much easier and so much more effective. Great job by you.
Just started reading Brian Sparks book and thought I’d check him out on TH-cam and came across your video. The moment you spun the video to all those books raised a smile as I too have what seems every single golf book known to man and I still haven’t found one that has allowed to not do the exact same bad swings you mentioned I.e too far inside that causes a snap pull and often a shank. I,m now looking forward to reading the book in full and trying out the simple movement that you’ve highlighted works for you. Thanks!!
Glad I found this video. I have as many books on golf as you and as a result change my swing all the time. I have tried this simple swing today at the range and could not believe I could hit the ball so far with so little effort. I have sent for the book as you have recommended and can't wait to try it out on the course.
Synchronicity? A few days ago, I hit the range for the first time since last year. After going through a large bucket and getting frustrated. Adjusting my stance, grip, backswing, etc. It never crossed my mind to relax. With 5 balls left. My back was starting to hurt. Pinched sciatic nerve 5 years ago. Ready to leave the last five there, I loosened up completely and swung with a defeatist attitude. What the heck? It was the cleanest hit. Straightest shot I made all day. 2 more balls. Did it again. Perfect. Grabbed my driver for the last 2. Light smooth swing. Perfectly straight and about 20 yards farther than normal for me. Huh? That night I went on youtube. Not even looking for golf vids. Your video was the very first one on my home page. Watched it 3 times. This is to weird. A Great weird. Light bulb moment. Bought the book. Watched Brian's vids. I am going to read it tonight. Thank you so much for posting your video. Wish I found it in 2013 when you posted it. It's better than hitting the lotto. Well, almost! Thanks
So I just tried this swing out from the instructions on this video. I also found someone else promoting this swing concept. I had a much easier time hitting good solid shots down the middle. I'm going to sign up for the online lessons. Thank you very much for posting your video. I hope you're still hitting them good.👍
Yup, I was low as 8.5 this summer...but trended up towards the end. Working on free release (souplesse). Tension continues to haunt me....But that is because Im neurotic (im kidding :)). Its been years since Ive subscribed to this approach and Im never leaving. All the best to you and yours!
Thanks for the introduction to Brian Sparks' method. I think you have started my journey to playing better golf and having fun at it. Really appreciate it.
Hi many thanks for your video. I have been playing for 3 yrs and am still playing off 19. I have recently been going through a really bad patch and have completely lost my swing. I used to be a member of manston golf center where Brian sparks has his positive impact coaching facility. I now live literally 1 minute from that driving range. I have a couple of lessons booked and if I feel confident with the teaching I'll book more. You have clearly found a system that works for you and you've managed it through distance learning which is incredible. I hope some 1 on 1 will give just as good results. Great video and its given me a bit of hope. I think i should have done this sooner.
Hello! Very much enjoyed your video as it reinforced what I’ve learned over the past few days. I’ve grown tired of tweaking and adjusting my old swing the old fashioned way ... it just never worked. I committed to a total re-do of my swing and promised myself to give it a month or two. I had settled on Paul Wilson’s thinking as a start but with the method you’re discussing in the back of my mind. Quite similar. It hasn’t been easy until yesterday when I finally slowed everything way down in practice and visualized your method .. all of a sudden it clicked. My shots started to get straight , effortless and longer. Not every single one but most did. I can’t tell you how that made me feel. I’m 70 years old and can’t wait to get this swing locked down permanently as I prepare for the upcoming season. Great great job!.. Lloyd
Hello Lloyd...sorry for delay in getting back to you. Very happy to hear about your progress. Make sure to watch Brian Sparks's videos as well as those of his ever growing list of great coaches....Julian Mellor and Sean Herron to name a couple. All the best!
@@amigopheasantkiller Yes i've now migrated more toward Julian's video's. Had a real awareness moment watching Brian's video on "everything mo ing together". Makes a little more sense. Just need to keep practicing. Out of a large bucket, my percentages of good shots are gradually increasing each time out there. Just trying to keep my old lurching tendencies from creeping in. I'm committed however!.... as long as it takes. Thanks for replying.
So, I have been practicing at home, and went down the driving range and tried this. Reasonably happy with the new swing. Tried it out over the weekend(1 round Saturday, 2 on Sunday). When I remembered to rotate through fully, worked out amazingly! A very happy by-product, is my backswing on drive is insideish, and my downswing with rotation is slightly outside, a straight drive with a touch of draw! Playing my second shot, which is usually a rescue from the side left me gobsmacked. Thanks from a 27 handicapper!
Your video pointed me into Brian's direction a few years back. It has taken a few attempts to finally be consistent with this method. Unlike you I am fat over fifty but tall. It has its own challenges. After 3 years of working on it has clicked in. I am hitting farther, straighter with much, much less "effort" and with impetuous. With the help of Bob Cunningham out of Georgia we are putting the final touches on my movement. Breaking 80 this year to be sure. Thanks for the video. I hope you are well.
@@amigopheasantkiller us PIGs have to stick together. The amazing thing about this method is really about forgetting ingrained fixes or bandaids on a problem that can actually be made right. I had this major epiphany last week of actually feeling the connection of hip and opposite shoulder. The band of stored energy "tension" is completely directable if you stay in synch with it. I was able to slow my total movement down quite a bit and was able to hit longer and consistently, with little to no external tension. The realisation that any deviation from the desired flight intention is a result of a micro hesitation or interference at some point during the swing after initiating it. "Just let it go or release the club " has a completely different meaning now. Unfortunately I have no idea how to relate this to another person other than to watch out for it and realise what it is when it happens. I believe it manifests itself all the time in those million dollar shots that we make all the time and ask ourselves , "How did that just happen, I dont know what I did just now?" Maybe we should be asking what we didn't do? How is your game these days? Take care and stay healthy.
@@amigopheasantkiller minus 12 and over a foot on the ground, SW Ontario. We have a heated open air driving range here. Just opened up from lockdowns. Like yourself Ive tried almost everything out there and keep coming back for more PIG, think it time to hang my hat and just accept how simple it can be. Im hoping that we will be on the greens in 6 weeks. Just in time for April fool's day. Straight is long, take care!
I just want to thank you for this video. I have purchased the book and yesterday I shot an 81. Typically I shoot bogey golf and I have had more improvement in the last month than I have had in years
Don't thank me, thank Brian Sparks for finding a more body-friendly, stress free way to swing a club. He's proven to me that position based swing teaching isn't necessary, see my short video of this (cut and paste into your browser): Easiest Swing in Golf UPDATE #2
Hi, just wanted to say that this is how I play and have had tremendous success. Here is a little about my golf journey. I moved to Orlando Florida 8 years ago. I wanted to see how good I could get at golf so I got lessons with all the top teachers in Orlando. Mike Bender, Brad Brewer, Kevin Smeltz , Brian Mogg and other various teachers in the area. About 3 years ago I was introduced to Wild Bill Melhourn and it changed everything. Brian's method is almost the same and the drill he does is almost identical to the one Wild Bill taught. The only difference was that Wild Bill put the club on his thighs. I have Brian's book and it is great. I have won a bunch of tournaments over the last year with this method. I'm not the longest guy out there but no one is as consistent as me.
+Scott Davis Thank you for letting us know about your success. Getting people to open their minds to a simpler approach is difficult....it was for me. Stories like yours simply reaffirm my commitment to this approach. Hopefully, someday, the rest of the golf instruction world will get wise to this and change its ways!!
Thank you!!! I discovered your video and then took your advise and went and watched Mr. Spark's video. Wow! I shot an 87 (normally low to mid 90's) using the technique without even practicing it much. IT WORKS! It truly freed me up to be able to just relax and make a "freedom" swing at the ball. Freed up my brain which was a tension chain to my body trying to reach unattainable perfection taught by the "big time" teachers. Thank you amigo and thanks to Mr. Sparks!!!.....A "BIG" THANK YOU!!!
BILL E: That's great to hear! Brian's army of relaxed, improving golfers continues to grow! Keep at it and submit a comment now and again and let me know how you're getting on. Also, I encourage all viewers to contact Brian himself...he is so helpful and engaging. You won't regret it.
yes. please note, this method doesnt tell you how to swing (my swing is super ugly) but by staying relaxed, getting good turn and weight shift, even an ugly swing can become functional. I'm a lifer on this approach
Good video Amigo. I am 66 and have been experimenting with the typical golf swing for 25 years and al it's done for me is give me a bad lower back and a stiff neck problem. Since switching to Brian's method I have no tension in my swing as I did before by trying to keep a straight left arm and am able to enjoy the game and the resultant lower scores. Cheers
I have tried all of the "position golf" method books. Your stack is a little higher. I"m now 75 and finally found Manuel de la Torre and the Easiest Swing crew about 6 mos ago. What an easy and efficient method. Doing what comes naturally to me and no more back issues. Great video and keep making them. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment. I also find this a very body friendly way to play golf. Not being afraid to move around a little bit makes it so much easier and enjoyable. Trying to torque yourself up to create power is a sure fire way to have a sore back. And frankly i'm as long as I have ever been, I don't buy into the comments that say they can't generate any power.... I can swing my driver over one hundred miles per hour when Im loose.... I expect some people would actually see a gain in distance because they get a bigger turn. Anyways, i'm rambling..... Good luck in your golfing career!
Somehow I came across Julian Mellor's "Easiest Swing in Golf" videos. It looks so effortless. Then I came across your videos and see the effort it takes to have an effortless swing. I wanted to tell you I enjoyed them very much for their reality. Hope you are still enjoying the game. I have been working on "The Dance" a couple weeks now.
Thank you for making this video. I have bought the book and watched the videos over and over again. You have sent me in a whole new direction, and I now enjoy golf more than ever Ken Brand Nova Scotia
+Ken Brand I'm humbled by your words, but people should be thankful for Brian Spark's refreshing approach to coaching golf. I'm just a messenger and fellow golf enthusiast. I no longer stress myself about things like the X factor, pronation of the wrists, right knee flexion, blah, blah, blah. Liberating and much more enjoyable this way.
Of all the swings I've tried over the past couple years (lee c, Michael b, golf tec, Paul Wilson, etc), this along with Zen Golf has given me the best and most consistent results. I'm still working on it, as you are, to try and get practice swing to match real swing. I need to experiment more with where do I feel most natural in backswing (more upright, reg, flat?). I do, however, use different techniques for chipping and putting.
Amigo, good stuff. I am a golf instructor in Orlando Fl and have spoken with Brian by Skype and we communicate on occasion even now. You did a great with your video and anyone would benefit from your very well put review. Bill Mehlhorn who played in the 1920's was of this same mindset. Your stack of golf books looks like mine. Good Golfing Cheers!
What a coincidence! In my youtube surfing I came across Bill Mehlorn's videos and your take on his method (you have several very helpful videos). I'm flattered you took the time to comment on mine. I love Brian's method and approach and hope to meet him in person someday.
Excellent review. Sounds like you and I have (prior to "discovering" Brian's instruction) taken the same unfortunate path to improvement in this game. I too have read literally hundreds of instructionals over the course of 35 years and have taken lessons from some "name" teachers with little or no positive improvement. The video with Brian addressing the question of "why instruction nowadays ignores over 80% of the golfing populace" was profound. I have recent experience with 2 popular internet teachers to prove to me that they simply are not interested in teaching 55+ year olds. It's weird but they seem to have a "perfect" swing pattern in mind and they try to fit everyone into it - whether the person is physically capable of doing it or not! People are quitting this game left and right because they cannot get practical help to improve. I see where you're helping Brian with his clinic in Minnesota next week. That's going to be a great experience. Please find the time to report on it in a video if possible. I have signed up for Brian's Florida clinic later in the year and I'm really looking forward to it.
I have found Brian's method to be the simplest, easiest to understand instruction to date, and after 25 years of reading articles and books, watching the golf channel, etc. that is saying a lot. If only I had come across this method 25 years ago it could have saved me tons of money and tons of frustration. I've been committed to his approach for three years (I think) now. In the past I had new swing thoughts almost weekly based on the latest "tip" I heard.
Just one thing I noticed, and I'm not sure if it means anything; Your head is staying relatively the same as in a traditional swing. I love this concept and will give it a go.👍🏌️♂️⛳😁
This is best easiest to understand Golf lesson on you tube and it's not a lesson I'm buying the book. It's on Amazon. I've taken lessons from pro's that aren't a easy to understand as you are Thanks.
Amigopheasantkiller when I first saw this video I thought to myself it can't be this easy. So I went to my club yesterday and went to the driving range. I was glad to see no one was there when I tried this. So I started the dance, then started to hit balls with my 7 iron. First couple didn't do so well, but I started to find that the more relaxed my arms and wrists were the better the contact was. I progressed through longer irons and into woods. Each time I told my self to relax and not try to kill the ball. I began hitting the ball so much straighter. I stopped and began to laugh... I am a guy that has been search all over you tube for that key type of swing that I could incorporate in my game. I had so many swing thoughts in my head that by the time I was ready to hit I would get tensed up. This swing and mindset takes all that away. I am going to keep practicing with your swing thoughts. Couple of things that I noticed that I have still struggling with: 1. The woods and the drivers still have a tendency to have too much fade to them (Right handed golfer). I have always struggled with this type of ball flight. I have a neutral grip but I feel that I am still coming over the top of the ball. Any thoughts that I could put in place for the next practice? 2. Distance, I have lost a little bit of distance with this type of swing (but gain accuracy, so I am not really that concerned) Is there anything to put in to p[practice that can help me with this? Let me give you a couple of details: I am a 20 handicap. Play Ping G irons stiff shaft steel shafts, Titleist Driver with a stiff flex shaft. I am a big guy (6'6) so all my clubs have a 1 1/2 inch length extension. Again, Thank you for showing me a new way to think about golf. I look forward to your comments. PS I have downloaded the book and have read it twice.
My advice is to contact Brian (or one of his great coaches, like Julian)! They love to hear stories like this (as do I). I'm not qualified to give advice, but it sounds to me like you are on the right track. You should strengthen your grip while swinging this way, see if that helps. Sometimes just a minor change can make a world of difference. I have not lost any distance using this method, though I hear that other folks have from time to time. I think it may be because when folks are relaxed they forget to accelerate positively through the ball. In other words, they almost become too smooth....does that make sense? There has to be "impetus" through the ball....allow your wrists to unhinge and forearms to roll, without tension. But PLEASE contact Brian or one of his coaches. You won't regret it. They can tailor their services to work pretty much under any budget and help you online without the need for travel, etc.
I’ve always had a fade to extreme slice . I’ve used the dance to relax the swing . And get the shoulders turned at the finish. A work in progress , but when I finish properly ball is straight and long...
You have a great swing. I was going to try this, but I discovered that doing what Rikard Strongert's video suggests (swinging with no tension and relaxing your face, and exhaling) works for me combined with Bobby Clampett's impact zone has allowed me to play from places on the course that I've never been - like hitting driver, lob wedge on 380 yard par 4s.
I too am tired of endlessly searching for the right tip that will give me some consistency and take my game to the next level. I bought Brian's book two days after viewing your video and dove into it. A few driving range sessions have had mixed results, but I have to say, I didn't leave exhausted and sore... wondering how I can stop coming over the top. I love the book and am excited about getting rid of all the swing thoughts and tension and just swinging and enjoying the game. Thanks!
I struggled with the "over the top" as well.....what I've found is that I need to keep ZERO tension in my arms, wet noodles if you will. I have to just let the swing happen as opposed to forcing a hit. I'm seeing some really nice results.
There are a couple of things that you can do to fight the "over the top." This is a fairly easy thing to fix once you understand the physics. The club must drop under the initial plane. Think of the ball as a clock, and make contact at the 4 o'clock position. The club must be traveling from inside to out. Try to hit the ball and make it start right of target (inside to out). This puts hook spin on it (right to left spin for the right hander). Keeping your back to the target longer through impact may also help. You may start to push/block the ball to the right at first (a good thing). Just try to get the ball to START right of target. After you start blocking the ball to the right (and it doesn't draw back to the left), work on squaring the club face at impact (and still hit the ball at the 4 o'clock position. You might try a stronger grip (hands turned more clockwise). Hope this helps.
Hi Everyone, Brian Sparks here. I just want to explain that I'm in the convoluted process of changing publisher and that's why the book is currently unavailable from most suppliers. It will come back soon in all the normal places but, in the meantime, you can get a copy by going to the positive impact golf website. Many thanks for the interest you have shown in my book, Brian
I look forward to getting this book and being assisted by you. I have read and done too many other methods. Too much tension and inconsistency as a result.
Michael, I am also glad I found Brian's method after 50 years of grinding, even though I have shot many fine rounds as a single plane hitter, I still love playing this way, as a swinger using the Ernest Jones/Brian Sparks swing the club head style. It doesn't hurt. Gale
I enjoyed your video and have a similar collection of books, tapes, etc... to no avail. Just starting out with Brian's book and ordered a SwingRite club. I have already seen improvement at the range and can take "some" of it to the course. For an overly analytical person like me I need this simple approach. Thanks for your review.
Hi, hope all is well! One of the great qualities of Brian Sparks as a golf coach is that he is open minded enough to point to other coaches who give good advice. On Brian's youtube channel he includes videos of a Canadian coach named Ron Sisson. Check out his videos....really helpful. One thing Brian has proven to an analytical fellow like myself is that golf teaching has got it backwards....We need to learn to swing freely and with rhythm first....the other stuff can be used to tweak as we become more advanced. I can't tell you how much more I've enjoyed my golf game since working with Brian....
Excellent book review, I’ve just got a copy. I can already see an improvement. More so a confidence thing. I still think I need to keep my eye on the ball, but keeping my head fairly loose..
I've read his book, watched the videos, emailed him, even purchased the swingrite. Can't wait til warmer weather so I can put this into practice. Brian says he may be coming to your neck of the woods. Hope so as I am over near Green Bay. Go Pack!
John, other than your misguided comment about football teams (Go Vikes!) I really enjoyed this comment. :) Yes, I hope we can get Brian over here (we tried to get a deal done in Lake City, MN last year)....look forward to meeting you when he does!
Hey! Great video! I, too, have many, many books, half a dozen lessons and much advice. I recently bought a used Leadbetter Swing Setter device and after working at it managed to sweat my way into releasing the adjustable magnetic ball half at the ball or slightly after it in faux practice swings on the hardest setting. After too much swinging my back has become quite tender, stiff and sore, and so I got to thinking about seeing his video months ago. So, I revisited it and decided to give it a shot. I picked up the Swing Setter and easy as pie, I was able to consistently and effortlessly use the hardest setting and release the club at or beyond the object ball. Thanks for the testimonial! I'll take it to the range first chance I get. Here's to FUN and effortless golfing!
Hi Tee REX....I have that SAME training aid. But I never use it. I've had several aids over the years, like the Medicus, etc. The only thing I use is the Swing Rite nowadays. And I simply use it for warmup, finding my rhythm etc. And YES, here's to FUN and effortless golfing!! I second that motion!!
Hi, again! Picked up a Swingrite from craigslist for $60 a few days ago and find it more effective than the SS. Keeping loose is a hard thing to do. Do you have any exercises to stay supple and relaxed?
Tee REX Nothing all that fancy. I simply hold the swing rite horizontally and do the Dance like Brian does and then transition into swinging the club to a full balanced finish. I try to make the click without exerting a lot of effort. Brian has a partner, Julian Meloor that has a great video on this. th-cam.com/video/xP02vnmnQG0/w-d-xo.html
Are you still playing? I was one of Brian's coaches while he was alive. After his death I left for a couple reasons. I went back to teaching my program Golf Made Easy. I help my students find what works best for them. They turn, since it's easier than not turning, but the method they use for chip shots and pitch shots are what work best for them - not my way only.
Late comer to your video but really enjoyed your enthusiasm. I'm built very much like yourself and find the conventional taught swing very painful to my back. So I'm gonna try Brian's method and hopefully book a 2 day course with one of his coaches Julian Mellor. Thanks for your video there's not many on you tube from people who are not connected to Easiest Swing so its good to hear a review from an outsider 👍
You bet! I've never met Julian, but love his videos. I'm still a believer in Brian's method. We've become friends since I first worked with him, but yes I'm an "outsider" in the sense I don't get paid in any way. Well, full disclosure, he did send me a golf towel and called me an "ambassador". LOL. Great guy, great method.
Great video amigo. I too have struggled for years being caught up in "positions" and the technical aspect of the swing. Big mistake, all that creates is tension. I have also ordered Brian's book and a Swingrite trainer to work on a free flowing swing. It has already helped me quite a bit. Free up the mind, let the body do what comes naturally and the results have been fantastic. Happy golfing this season.
Hey amigo, thanks for bringing this swing to light for me. Feels a lot like the Mike Austin Swing. Just got back from the range and with this relaxed swing was hitting it better than ever. I combined this with a Moe Norman set up. I'm laughing at how easy it was. Gonna play a round later today with this swing in mind.
When you, (Or Brian) make your practice swings the head does indeed move quite a bit. However, when you both go to actually hit the ball it stays over the ball until impact (Maybe slightly before impact). Don't take this as a criticism, just an obsevation. The main thing that comes across is your enthusiasm & I like that.
Yes, I probably move more in the practice swing, but my head certainly doesn't sit perfectly dead still during the actual swing either. It may only be slight movement.....but in no way am I making a conscious effort to keep my head still. By focusing on that you only make yourself more rigid and add tension making the swing more difficult. Brian's method is to not be afraid of some movement....allow your lead foot to come off the ground if you need to, etc. I have a video called "Here it is", and at the END of that video is a swing of mine face on, not down the line. In that view, if you put a pencil on my head as a reference point you will see it moves off the ball in a definite fashion. I don't try to move my head on purpose, but I don't try to keep it dead still either. In fact, I don't even think about it at all.....very liberating feeling. I appreciate the comment, I did not take it as a criticism. In fact you peaked my curiosity enough that I had to see my old video where I had a view from the side. I'm always open to advice!!
73 years old, short and not thin. Been doing the Easiest Swing for two years now, and it's only getting better. Looking forward to golfing now well into my 80s.
"Short, fat and over forty" I'm still laughing as I write. Yup that's me. Excellent video! Took a mental image of Brian's swing to the course the other day and for the first time in a long time I had fun. Fun! Didn't beat up my back or my shoulders. I hover around a 10-12 handicap but have to work way to hard to maintain it. I'm in. I'll buy the book. Thanks
Really enjoyed your review. Just read "Swing the Clubhead" by Ernest Jones which seems to be very similar in it's approach. I am pretty positive that concerning ones self with all those internal cues doesn't work very well as you've so eloquently pointed out. I see Brian Sparks has commented here. Well I just bought your book....thanks again to you both.
„Short, Fat and over 40...“ 😂😂😂 Man you‘re killing me.. Good video and nice looking swing. Thanks to Brian‘s method, my back doesn‘t hurt anymore after golf. Indeed, I hit the ball even a bit further now.
Amigo' Just watched your video for the umpteenth time. Thanks for the great work and perspective. After reading Brian's book, I highly recommend Quantum Golf as a follow up. Best regards.
Many thanks for this excellent video. I recently read Brian's book (and watched his videos) and look forward to experimenting with his method. I notice that on YOUR swing, you are swinging much harder than Brian swings. I would appreciate any comments you can offer about that issue and whether you have experimented with easier swings. I realize that you don't want to do anything to decelerate the club and need to be mindful of the impetus through the ball. I wish you all the best with YOUR game.
Clear Instructions: This video was made about a month or so after I started with Brian. I now, I believe, have a much more easy swing and not really noticing any change in distance. My handicap has dropped by nearly a stroke since the beginning of this season to just a titch under 10 (a personal goal) at the moment. That aggressive move, which still creeps up from time to time, is from the days I was fighting a slice and (incorrectly) thought that by firing hard with the hips it would drop the club inside, blah, blah, blah. So I focus on the unhurried rhythmic turning and weight shift and not much else anymore, more about process than result and I'm playing probably the best golf of my life. But there is still LARGE room for improvement. I can post a score in the 90s still on any given day. But that's golf!!! :)
Thanks for the update and explanation. Perhaps in the next few months, you can post an updated video showing your swing as it has progressed. Congratulations on the great improvements you have made in your game!
Clear Instructions I've been meaning to do that for the past two months!! I also need to continue my lessons with Brian. I'm seeing real improvement and I can't stop the momentum!
Michael Barnett Michael, I know he has changed publishers which caused some problems. Also, I know he often times takes a bunch of students on golf trips to Spain or France, etc. So that could be the reason for the delay. I will email him and let him know you are having trouble.
HI Amigo Hope you are well. I am eagerly awaiting the e- book of Mr sparks. I have tried the swing the other day on the golf course and I can't see myself swinging the club any other way ever again. It simply is the easiest most body friendly swing there is. Only thing is I am sure I am not doing every thing correct. Can you please give me a few tips on things I should concentrate on and do etc. Regards Shawn
As a mid handicapper I am not qualified to advise on swing technique. But, I take from the premise of your question that you are looking for tips on HOW to swing the club. Here is my advice: don't worry too much about that at this point, don't try to swing through certain positions. That causes tension and tension kills your swing. If you hit a bad shot, don't try to "fix" it by wondering what you did wrong. That will lead you down the path of "positions", which leads to tension, which leads to bad shots. See the pattern? So, focus on the rhythmic turning of your body, the natural unhurried weight shift, keeping your arms and wrists relaxed with a little "swoosh" at the bottom of your swing. Swing to a nice relaxed balanced finish position each time. And as I tell everyone who posts, contact Brian for lessons! I'm in the middle of a blizzard right now so I'm very much looking forward to the season and my new lessons myself!!
As you know, there are a couple of other guys that advocate this kind of swing. They said , quit trying to keep your left arm straight. Quit trying to keep your left foot planted. Quit trying to keep your head still. I thought, can it really work? So I go to the range a couple of times . Easy swings like they advocate and it was working. So I go to the course in my golf league and think well here goes. I stole the show.
Read the "impact" helped a lot found the distance lost off the tee, which was lost about the time i was trying to improve. What I do not understand yet is where are the basics grip. stance etc.
+Gerald Taucreti The positive impact method believes the basics are grounded in movement, not the static positions. Things like grip and stance can be tweaked as you improve, but the important piece is to allow movement in your swing and to remove tension from your body and mind.
Very good video, I bought the book and also the original swing rite. Both have brought the fun back into my golf game. I may actually have a golf game. Have you purchased an original swing rite? If so, I'd like to see your thoughts on its proper use. Perhaps, you would post a vid?
Richard, I do not own a Swingrite....I have an old Leadbetter "swing setter" that works in similar fashion. It's a cheap plastic thingy, probably not as nice as a Swingrite. I have purchased some "birdie balls" for hitting in the yard. Do a youtube search on those, they look like napkin rings. Very fun and let you practice is limited space. Hit 'em straight!
Would you say that with this swing, you don't have any hip and torso separation? I assume it minimizes it, but I'm wondering if I'm supposed to feel no separation at all. Thanks!
There may be a very slight separation, but I don't even think about it honestly. I just want to make sure I get a full turn, so if that means my hips turn quite a bit, I simply let them (and this usually means I have to let my lead foot come off the ground a touch). I don't "fire" my hips on the downswing either. Rather, I try to let the downswing begin by first re-planting my lead foot and then unwind in a manner (that I feel anyway) that is unrushed. I know my swing looks violent, but you should have seen it before working with Brian Sparks! LOL!
@@amigopheasantkiller Haha, thank you for the response! Looking forward to my next range session. As someone who is having back problems, this is giving me hope. Do you know if this method matches up well with a hogan-esque grip? Or perhaps something with a stronger lead or trail hand? Thanks
Actually, the grip is one of the last things that these folks teach. The most important part is to allow your body to move freely and without tension. Once you feel like you've accomplished this, watch your ball flight. If it is leaking right, simply strengthen your grip, a touch. If it is hooking too much, then simply weaken it, as you probably well know. But again, I can't stress to you enough the importance to keep all tension out of your forearms, wrists, and shoulders.
Amigo, I've read the book and I couldn't find the reference to "impetus". To me that happens at the point of release but I haven't found it in the book. Will you point me to the general area where it is discussed? I'm with you on the frustrating search through all the other teaching greats to find something that will unleash a reasonable golf swing for me.
Hi Jack, it is a quick reference early in the book. There isn't any technical detail, simply the need to have a "swoosh" through the ball. I only mentioned it in my email because I hadn't seen the use of the word "impetus" since a vocabulary test in the fifth grade I suspect. :)
Muy bueno ... Gracias Amigo. I really appreciated your review and follow ups. Your attention to the detail in the recording was terrific. Continued good luck with your swing and your game.
Hi Amigo Thank you for taking the time to reply. I tried the positive impact swing on the driving range today and all though I am not sure that I did everything correctly it worked marvelously. I hit my irons so pure and sweet as well as for my driver. It was a complete different feeling that I normally experienced it was fantastic!!! What I got from the video you and Brian posted it looked like the 2 main aspects of the swing is to end up with most of your weight on the front foot (left when you a right handed golfer) when you hit the ball in other words, your weight shift should be correct together with tension free relaxed swing (not forcing the ball). Am I correct in saying this or is there lots more to the swing than the basics I mentioned here? Regards Shawn
Shawn, that is great to hear! Though I'm not surprised. That wonderful feeling of freedom is pretty typical I'm beginning to find for folks who try to emulate this approach for the first time. We've all heard about "finishing on our left side", etc. but with the Danse Du Golf this happens naturally, without having to focus on anything. So, yes, weight shift is certainly one of Brian's six "basics", but instead of telling you to "fire your hips" or some other such typical advice, he has you practice la Danse so you can feel how easy and natural it is. So, the next time you are on a tight hole, just remember how free you felt and try to repeat that motion. AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT BAD SHOTS. They happen, always will. But if you stick to this tension free approach, they'll happen less often. Now, is there more? HECK yes. When you are ready to go to the "next level" feel free to contact Brian directly, I've advised that to just about every commenter so far. Keep at it, I think you'll be happy with the results! And check in from time to time....I'm interested how things go. I hope to possibly make another video next summer as my own game progresses.
Interesting. Thanks for the review. Swing looks like you swinging it around your body quite a lot. Few questions:Don't you find that you draw or even snap hook the ball with this method seeing that you swing it around your body? Do you have power with this swing? Is it repeatable and sustainable? Thanks Regards Shawn
Shawn, LET ME CLARIFY: The excessive inside takeaway is MY swing fault, it is not something Brian encourages. Rather, Brian focuses on allowing for tension free movement, and that can only be achieved by not dwelling on overly technical positions. By focusing on the Danse Du Golf, I've been able to greatly reduce the bad shots that MY bad backswing would normally produce. I plan to rectify my backswing in time with Brian, but for now my tension free swing is producing much more consistent shots. As for distance? I'm not a power hitter, but when I tag a driver I usually hit it about 250 yards (that includes roll). I've reached 300+ yard par fours before when I've had a heavy helping wind and dry hard ground.
Hi I have watched Brians video a few times and purchased the book and am probably a quarter way through reading. I have tried the swing in my garden and there seems to be a nice divot after the point were i start my club which is great. However when i put a ball there i seem to hit fat which as always been my problem. Not sure if its casting with relaxed arms or finishing the turn but only seems to happen when a ball is there ?? ..got to finish reading the book first i suppose
pete D Brian's book would instruct you to not focus on WHY you hit a bad shot, but rather focus on what makes a GOOD shot. Movement, turning, rhythym, coordination, weight shift and "souplesse". I've had my bouts with "the fats" as well. I would advise focusing on these basics and make sure you get to a full, balanced and relaxed follow through. There are a host of reasons you can hit fat...yes, casting may be one, hanging back on your back foot might be another, etc. etc. etc. You'll pull your hair out trying to eliminate what makes a bad swing, so again, focus on what makes a good swing. You'll solve it in no time. And as I always advise.....ask Brian for a lesson! :)
hi mate, read Brians book...tried his style on the range and on course....still can't generate distance from doing the dance. Are there any PIG golf pros' in Australia? preferably Melbourne...I would like to explore further with a few lessons
I don't believe there are. There are a few of them now, but all in Europe I'm afraid. I've never noticed any distance loss with his method.....His method isn't necessarily to get you to fundamentally change your swing, but to free it up by not being afraid of movement such as letting your foot off the ground, letting your head move, etc. I would advise you email Brian....he can give lessons online with videos, etc.
I am going to start learning this swing. I have also picked up a full set of 50 year old persimmon woods (driver, brassie, 3 and 4) because they are slightly shorter clubs with better balance and require smooth swinging and not smashing. I feel like we are at a moment in our lives (I'm 53 years old) when we pause to ask: who cares? if it looks old fashioned, so what? I'm 53, I'll put on my old fashioned scottish bonnet and I'll have some fun, for once! Thanks for posting a great video.
I play modern Pings, but I also have a set of old blades and woods that I play from the senior tees every once in awhile...absolute blast. Love what you're doing...
I tend to have ball position for driver slightly forward than irons. And as the irons get shorter, the ball moves back a bit. However, it would be best for you to contact a professional like Brian for qualified advice. I'm just a committed follower of Brian's method.
Sometimes, follow with technical instruction may keep you away from following your nature. Movement itself has a rhythm, so is golf swing. Once the rhythm improves, then you play better golf.
+Tony Dadika I agree. However, you will find some reviews on Amazon where folks are upset because he doesn't explain exactly where the club should be, etc. They simply fail to realize that his method is to get us AWAY from position based teaching. Those thoughts are simply barriers to increased performance. So to those who want to grasp onto position based teaching, I wish you all the luck in the world....but I will never go there again. Golf is so much more fun now....and relaxing.
Thanks, Charlie. From time to time I still peruse TH-cam for tips, but I always come back to this. If you don't get Brian's 6 fundamentals (turning, weight shift, rhythm, coordination, balance, and relaxation) then everything else is moot. Using his method as a foundation I hit my lowest ever handicap, a shade under 6 last year (bumped back up to 6 at the end of the season). I think I can get another stroke or two off...I'll just keep grinding.
@@amigopheasantkiller I too reached an all time low handicap by finishing my first ever golf season as a single digit handicapper (9.3). Love Brian’s swing method and will continue to pursue it through Julian Mellor’s teaching now that Brian has passed away (may his soul Rest In Peace). A great swing philosophy.
Me too. I have read a million books and no improvement. I watched his videos all weekend and practiced them and just came back from the driving range with no improvement. His videos were not a magical cure for swing faults for me at least unfortunately. Just having a natural effortless golf swing did not stop me from hitting behind the ball, topping it, side swiping it, just like I did before trying this method. Just came back from the driving range after practicing these movements all weekend. I am very inconsistent still. I need help, would love to have a lesson but am in the US in Texas. I realize I am just not doing it right or overlooking something. But it is not obvious to me what it is. I shoot way over 100. Very depressing.
Sorry to hear that. FYI....Brian does lessons via email / videos etc. No need to travel anywhere. Again, sorry to hear about your continued struggles. His method has been the best for me of all the things I've tried in the past.
Spend a while on a mat or low grass, with no ball. Take the shot out of the equation and just try to relax, and develop the feel. If you go straight to the course, or even the range, you’ll probably revert back to your old habits and not even know it. I did. Julian Mellor talks about “feel and real” being different... and he ain’t lying.
When you make your actual swing, as opposed to when you're doing the danse du golf exercise, your head won't actually move as much as you see there. But by allowing the head to move a little bit, it'll relieve your tension and make it easier to swing the club. Your eyes do not need to be laser.Focused on the ball, but rather just have a general awareness of where it is. Brian Sparks had an exercise where he would have students hit balls with their eyes shut to prove this point. Trying to keep your head absolutely still in the golf swing is the worst advice you'll ever get. I encourage you to investigate Easiest Swing. I am an amateur handicap golfer like you, so it would be best to get actual advice from a professional. But I can tell you that I am a much better golfer since having switched to this method. Good luck!

Here goes:
“Hi Julian, I wanted to pass along a major golf milestone for me which I can directly attribute to the positive impact golf methods and your videos.
TY!!
I’ve probably watched 2,000 videos on TH-cam and this is my absolute favorite!
wow..... that is so kind! hope u r playing well!
I couldn't
say that in my previous 34 years of playing the game.
LordBransty well said buddy
So simple. 😊
LOL!
Much thanks brother!
lol!
Thanks!!
I hope you enjoy a more relaxed game of golf! Best of luck!
Thanks
+Wiley Scrapper I'm glad you found La Danse Du Golf. It certainly liberates the golf swing!
Thank you for your very honest and intelligent explanation of this method. I’m a big fan of Julian Mellon .( and now B. Sparks)
I am 100% behind this method, both are fine gents for sure!
I just wanted to say thank you. Your video has changed my golfing life and sent me in a whole new direction.

Thanks for the introduction to Brian Sparks' method. I think you have
started my journey to playing better golf and having fun at it. Really
appreciate it.
I hope you enjoy his method as much as I do. Thanks!
Great to hear!!
I believe it manifests itself all the time in those million dollar shots that we make all the time and ask ourselves , "How did that just happen, I dont know what I did just now?"
Maybe we should be asking what we didn't do?
How is your game these days? Take care and stay healthy.
I don't know how my game is! Minnesota!!! But....still in love w PIG and Easiest Swing method.

It truly is a positive swing , relaxed , easy and looks comfortable. Great video, will look forward to trying this.
Alberta ,Canada.
Thanks!
Just saw your comment from 9 yrs ago, is this swing method still working for you?
yes. please note, this method doesnt tell you how to swing (my swing is super ugly) but by staying relaxed, getting good turn and weight shift, even an ugly swing can become functional.
Cheers
Good on ya!
I e what he’s all the Brian Sparks videos but it makes a different for me to see the average golfer like me explain and have success.
You have sent me in a whole new direction, and I now enjoy golf more than ever
Ken Brand
Nova Scotia
+Ken Brand I'm humbled by your words, but people should be thankful for Brian Spark's refreshing approach to coaching golf. I'm just a messenger and fellow golf enthusiast. I no longer stress myself about things like the X factor, pronation of the wrists, right knee flexion, blah, blah, blah. Liberating and much more enjoyable this way.
Love it , thanks for sharing. I have just discovered Mehlhorn and the grass whip, and I am all in.
I really appreciate this video and your honest assessment. I am now more confident to try this method, thank you.
I personally have stuck with this for over 10 years now... I hope you find it useful!
Everything you say is very true, changed my game 😀
Nice swing .. Looks very easy and natural. Happy for you !!
Couple of things that I noticed that I have still struggling with:
Thank you for sharing your experience with this frustrating sport. It gives me hope not to give up this game.
You bet! Hope you stick with it!
Michael,
I am also glad I found Brian's method after 50 years of grinding, even though I have shot many fine rounds as a single plane hitter, I still love playing this way, as a swinger using the Ernest Jones/Brian Sparks swing the club head style.
I still think I need to keep my eye on the ball, but keeping my head fairly loose..
yup, keep seeing the ball, just don't try to keep your head still. good luck on your golf journey!
I've read his book, watched the videos, emailed him, even purchased the swingrite. Can't wait til warmer weather so I can put this into practice. Brian says he may be coming to your neck of the woods. Hope so as I am over near Green Bay. Go Pack!
John, other than your misguided comment about football teams (Go Vikes!)
I really enjoyed this comment. :) Yes, I hope we can get Brian over
here (we tried to get a deal done in Lake City, MN last year)....look
forward to meeting you when he does!
Keep me posted if he is successful. I think he will be emailing me as well.
I bought the Kindle version and hope to see marked improvements soon! Thanks again !
Hi, again! Picked up a Swingrite from craigslist for $60 a few days ago and find it more effective than the SS. Keeping loose is a hard thing to do. Do you have any exercises to stay supple and relaxed?
Tee REX
Nothing all that fancy.
Thanks! I'll give his routine a try.
Yup, still going strong!
Great video and very well demonstrated and explained. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment!
***** Great to hear!
Thats great! inspirational as well! thanks 4 sharing that.
Great Review I've got all the books you have thanks for the video
Like to see more updates! Love the simple swing!
That is so kind. When I look at my swing I go "YUCK!" But I am quite a bit smoother than I used to be.
I just like how you kept your head still with that final swing there.
Thanks
+Rick Melillo Best of luck, Rick!! Yup, this method is a lot more maintenance free.
You're welcome and thank you. Good luck!
Favorite part of your video, "This is painful."
lol
„Short, Fat and over 40...“ 😂😂😂 Man you‘re killing me.. Good video and nice looking swing. Thanks to Brian‘s method, my back doesn‘t hurt anymore after golf. Indeed, I hit the ball even a bit further now.
I can do the movement but have a hard time finding the ball.
Amigo'
Just watched your video for the umpteenth time. Thanks for the great work and perspective. After reading Brian's book, I highly recommend Quantum Golf as a follow up.
Best regards.
+Richard Newquist Hey Richard, you goofball! I will order that book, thanks!! Great to meet you at Brian's clinic!
This was really enjoyable and many thanks for posting it...I'm now off to his website!
Thank you!
Great presentation. Appreciate the effort involved. I am now very interested in trying this out very much. Now looking to get the book.
Thank you and good luck!!
amigopheasantkiller
I have been trying to contact Mr. Sparks via the website to get the book. I have not had a reply as yet.
Michael Barnett Michael, I know he has changed publishers which caused some problems. Also, I know he often times takes a bunch of students on golf trips to Spain or France, etc. So that could be the reason for the delay. I will email him and let him know you are having trouble.
amigopheasantkiller
Thank you. He personally contacted me.
HI Amigo
Hope you are well.
Regards
Shawn
Continued good luck with your swing and your game.
thanks man im pumped to try
Hi Amigo
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Regards
Shawn
Thanks Regards
Shawn
Thank you, I'll be checking it out. Question,
How do you feel about MO Norman?
Absolutely amazed by his talent. I personally don't use his method. I much more enjoy the liberating feeling of Brian's approach.
My bad knees thank you and Brian.
My challenge is to find the ball...still missing ball frequently using this swing?
Are you guiding the club over your right shoulder?
Right there with you brother
Hi I have watched Brians video a few times and purchased the book and am probably a quarter way through reading. I have tried the swing in my garden and there seems to be a nice divot after the point were i start my club which is great. However when i put a ball there i seem to hit fat which as always been my problem. Not sure if its casting with relaxed arms or finishing the turn but only seems to happen when a ball is there ?? ..got to finish reading the book first i suppose
Pet D, if your divot is behind the ball, your are casting the club unless you have the ball too far forward in your stance. Hope this helps.
pete D Brian's book would instruct you to not focus on WHY you hit a bad shot, but rather focus on what makes a GOOD shot.
Hey Pete, where about in Melbourne are you? Also have you watched Ron Sissons videos?
The sound of your ball strike speaks for itself.
Thank you so much for your videos sir!
Thank you for watching. Good luck with your game!
When you tee off with a driver, what is the ball position? Do ball positions change with each club or does it stay in the middle always? Thanks.
Once the rhythm improves, then you play better golf.
you can watch his videos and see his easy swing , but the book is the best , it works on your mindset.
Great video! all this makes perfect sense.
Thanks I have ordered Brian's book.
Love your take on this
I appreciate that!
If you rotate your head during the swing how can you see the ball?
Good luck!
Got Homer Kelly's book "The Golfing Machine"?
Actually no....Im surprised

Great video 😀💯
