I have just repaired the solenoid on my 1963 Massey Ferguson 35x - it looks to be the original as are the starter and generator. I was amazed, not that it had failed but that it had somehow been working up to the point of the failure. The contacts were completely obscured by black gunge. After cleaning up it was apparent that the contacts were eroded to about half their original thickness but after reassembly it now works perfectly. Joe Lucas may not always have covered himself in glory (or even a faint glow) but he did a good job of this gear.
Here's to another 60 years of service!

I never realized how much better these mechanical help videos would be with an English accent 🙌
I installed the new solenoid without raising my blood pressure once

      Thank you.
I think you could well be right.
Lucas made many differing types, on the same headstock.
Some times different windings however, for different power requirements. Some one will know how to read spec from the build number I am sure.

Can I slightly increase the power of a tractor starter??? it turns slowly as soon as the ambient temperature drops even though everything is fine, the rotor, pipes and cables have been changed. also the battery. everyone tells me it's small but it used to run very well... it's a Lucas brand with a 65hp Perkins engine

I would say you need to check the windings out and beware brushes. A good service. A lot of lucas starters were interchangeable. Some With slight modification.
