I ended up getting the 3/4 breaker bar and a 60 inch pipe. I have the 2 piece lug nuts on my F-150. Ended up snapping the lug nut. I get to learn how to drill out a broken lug nut now. Thankfully I don’t have a flat or need to do brakes. I was just replacing the lug nuts in advance so it’ll be a smooth job later on 🤣
This is exactly the problem I'm having. I used some nut removal sockets. Went from 22mm to 21mm and they worked except for one problem one. Now that this shows me what you did, I'll give it a try. Thanks
Same problem with corroded two piece nuts on my Jeep and Dodge truck. Replaced every nut with DORMAN 711205 Acorn; Steel; Bulge Seat nuts which are one solid piece.
I have these on my PT cruiser. Also with the WORLDS Weakest lugs. Best day of my life was finding out how to replace them with Aftermarket lugs and Nuts. Never had a Problem since in the last 23 years.
Loved the video, you covered all affordable and obtainable parts that most men have in their garage. It does look like your braker bar has seen better days, but that’s just how it goes when working on cars 10/10
I just had to replace one of those Toyota lug nuts and Advance Auto had them in stock for right at $10. They are constructed the same as the ones on that Ford rim. The problem with those lug nuts is when the first tire shop uses the wrong size socket and that's when the issue first begins.
I've cracked eggs on the side of a bowl harder than you were hitting the socket with that hammer. Come on, put some hate behind those swings! Thanks for the video, it was fun, entertaining and educational!
"Put some hate behind those swings!" that cracked me up! Lol ... I felt like it, but was holding back for the camera. I should've got all mean on it! Lol Thanks South Street Barbecue

I feel your pain Russ. Lots of people are having the same problem. Some are forced to drill out the posts to get them off, which is even worse! You're not alone Pal. Cheers!
my dad always told me to put some vaseline on the acorn part of lug nuts (the conical part that faces the rotors). Never had a problem in 30 yrs of working with cars.
Going thru this with my 11 6.2 Platinum. Need to deal with a stuck brake. I think it is the hose- wheel don't have to come off yet. One sucker is all round now. That shell is a disaster.
FYI i have seen some guys using a small torch/plasma cutter to heat up cap to remove the chrome caps..saves alot of headaches,,problem is wiith applying pipe to pull bar its very possible to snap off stud,,
I like how you were originally going to do a video about the brakes 2:20 but one lug nut cap took over the whole video lol. Plus I liked the video edits about the failed attempts 👍

1-1/8in hole saw with the bit removed can zip those covers off in no time. Get rid of those lugs and make sure you have a socket for the one piece nuts in the car.
I tried to break loose with 1/2 pull handle and two foot breaker bar wouldn't budge , sprayed with electric cleaner and all the nuts came off with less force than before
I accidentally lowered my vehicle too low while trying to remove a spare tire that had a lugnut still in there as I lowered it …. I raised it back up so I could remove the lash lugnut and as I loosen it … It gets tighter …. How do I loosen it all the way do I can remove it
Great video. Do have question and comment. Was your lug nuts 21mm? Did the 19 mm get the bad lug off without the cover off ? I have a 2015 Ford Edge SEL and 12 of the 20 are bad I stripped the caps off but I having heck of time getting the hard steel lugs off any suggestions? Thanks.
Thanks Bob! Have you soaked them in PB Blaster? You can use a pipe on your ratchet drive to increase your leverage to get those last puppies off. If they are stubborn, you can let the PB Blaster soak in over night. You can also heat the lug nut up with a torch and then shoot cool PB blaster on it. The rapid heating and then sudden cooling usually breaks them free. If you use heat, be sure to focus the heat on the lug nut only.Do not damage your rims with heat. Good Luck! Don't give up. You Got This!
Thanks for your advice. I’ll get the old Blaster out and give it a try along with pipe and breaker bar. Try the 19mm socket to remove the lug as I believe you did after watching your video a second time.
He is how I fixed the swollen lug nut problem on 2015 Ford Edge SEL. I used a 1” Hole Dozer without the Pilot Bit from Home Depot made by Milwaukee. This fits over the lug it’s a tight fit but it will cut the cap off close to where the cap is crimped to the actual lug nut. Remember it’s a two piece construction. Once the cap is off I used a 20mm Deep Impact Socket 6 point to remove the Lug Nut I the replaced all the lug with a solid chrome 19mm lug nut from Driven Product in Kent, WA GREAT customer service I spoke to Jamie who made sure I was ordering the correct replacement lug. They are made in USA.
The doorman lug nuts are an engineered fixed for the defective lug nuts. They've been on for 4 months now and are looking a little dusty but no rust. Of course, I won't know for sure for another 7 years. I've bet my money that they are much better than the stock acorn cap lug nuts. Cheers!
Need to have truck on floor to unlock the lug nuts then after cracked loose then jack up cause you allow too much play on the tire and it spins like you did in the start of video
You think thats a problem, you should see mine on my jag.the steel nut has snapped off on mine as well.no idea how i am going to get my wheel off.2 have snapped.
Old Lady here. My nuts got swollen too (that is what the Ford Dealership told me today)! Question to all the manliness I have been watching on TH-cam… did any of you manly men contact Corporate about this horrible problem? Because I do not want to be the Old Lady by the side of the road in the middle of the desert with swollen nuts! Y’all need to contact Corporate about the “swollen nut problem”. Think about your poor Granny sitting on the side of the road in a snow storm because no one can loosen her swollen nuts to change her tire. Please be the hero and contact Ford. 😮
I believe we are heroes Diana. We are freely informing people about this problem, how to avoid it or correct it with very little expense. Ford already knows and has known for a long time. You said it yourself regarding your Ford dealership. Ford Corporate is regularly in contact with their dealerships regarding the servicing of their vehicles and investigate how and why their product fails. It's the research and development side of their business. Other companies such as Dorman also know, and have known for a long time as they have re-engineer the lug nut, manufactured it and now sell the replacement nuts to earn a profit. Mechanics also know and they charge additional labour to remove the swollen nuts and mark-up the replacement nuts to earn an additional profit. Ford Corporate, knowing about the issue, has performed a cost benefit analysis of the issue and has chosen not to issue a product recall notice. It is more profitable for them to have no response. This issue helps to generate service for their dealerships because people can not change their tires themselves. Dealerships get to charge extra labour, sell more of the same lug nuts and they earn additional profit. Did you know dealerships earn more on service than they do selling new vehicles? Ford also hires service technicians to watch internet sites, channels, videos like this one to gather information and to manage negative publicity regarding their products. I think we are heroes as we are helping people out by letting them know these lug nuts are prone to fail and suggest that they may want to change them before they do fail and leave them stranded. This information results in less profit for Ford, dealerships, mechanics, tow truck operators, auto parts retailers, and it is offered free to you. Thanks for your comment Diana, you seem to be a really caring person. I like that. Keep it up!
It's not on a rock. The wheel is chalked to prevent movement but yes... taking it off the jack stands would help prevent wheel movement. However, it would not help with lug nut removal. The lug nut was internally seized on the stud and swollen. thanks for your comment.
What a soab this is lol. I've worked on my own cars for the past 22 years and this one is a first. I need a good set of cobalt bits. Once I get enough drilled out I'm going to grab it again with the extractor and hopefully break the stud out. I'll replace them and do a pad swap while I'm there. I will never buy cheap lugs... Ever again.
