I'm not a fan of pairing starch with starch. Vegetables combined with rice, pasta and tortillas is one thing, but for example stuffing a sandwich with nachos isn't a brilliant idea. I'm Swedish and my former girlfriend from Rome thought it was strange of us to put kebab meat on pizza (something most people immediately love once they give it a chance). I responded "Ma Amore, in Rome you top pizzas with potato". Fortunately they also use other toppings.
One of the dozens of tamale carts near me sells this in Sonoma county California (tamale is $2, this is $3). It's always served with crema and salsa squirted on the bread from squeeze tubes. It effectively looks like a hotdog, with the bun being bread, dog being tamale, mustard being crema, and ketchup being salsa. Great sandwich.
A tamale sandwich? Oh my! I would have added pepper jack cheese, put it in the oven so the cheese melts, the tamale heats up and the bread gets toasty.
Two Guatemalan sandwiches you’ll love Shuco long soft plain bun grilled sausage like chorizo topped with avocado, slaw, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, sour cream, hot sauce Pan con pollo Crusty roll Stewed chicken in spicy tomato and pepper based sauce chilli and spices garnished with red onions and olives
They have a similar sandwich in Chicago called the mother-in-law ..."The mother-in-law is a fast food dish of Chicago, consisting of a tamale (Chicago Corn Roll Tamale) topped with chili, served in a hot dog bun" =8-/
I think this is the first International Sandwiches of History I've seen that didn't require two days to make or 20 ingredients. Guess you needed a break huh? Lol thanks Barry.👍👍
Hearing you talk about how carb heavy this was, I immediately thought of another carb on carb sandwich. The yakisoba sando. Yes, fried noodles in a bun. It's actually really good. If you haven't done it yet, you should give it a try!
Xzibit: "We heard you like sandwiches! So, we put your sandwich in a sandwich!" I probably would have also added some enchilada sauce. It looks like it needs some more lubrication lol.
I had something similar in Mexico City, instead it was chilaquiles inside a bolillo roll. It was a ridiculous carb bomb and honestly not as good as i was hoping it would be.
There is an Italian street food called Panelle (chick pea fritters). When I was growing up (in NYC), my mom would occasionally make Panelle, and we would make sandwiches out of it using Italian bread.
I used to live down the street from a home owned Mexican restaurant. The proprietor told me that one in 100 poblano peppers is incredibly spicy. The other 99 are mild as can be. That's the gamble!
So close to my tamale sandwich! Although Texas or Mississippi Delta tamales are smaller. And I used pork so it would be meatier. And mayo for a little bit of bread lube and touch of flavor. But the guac also works. What a day! I had no clue about the Mexican sandwich. That's awesome!
Almost like putting a corn dog in a hot dog bun. I figure I’d make it very saucy. Really dunk the tamale in a mole or enchilada sauce or such, so the roll would keep your hands clean.
😮yeah...i thought it needed some kind of sauce...tamale sauce i was thinking, but guacamole works too. Some cheese and toastwd inder the broiler would be nice
A sandwich on warm bread using a meat tamale covered in the typical tamale chili gravy, finely diced onions and shredded cheddar cheese would blow that vegetarian sandwich you made out of the water.
I don't really understand the point of this... the tamale is already in a corn husk... what's the point of removing it from the corn husk and putting it inside a roll?
A bit perplexed by this. Grew up in South Texas. Never heard of this, would just eat the tamale. If in a sandwich would need something from the bread other than carbs. Like bread covered in salsa and roasted for example. Still, learn something new every day.
I saw the thumbnail and thought; is that just a tamale on a bollio?!? Yes, yes it is. That's not for me. I like tamales, and bollio rolls. They do not need to go together, even with more queso and quac
It's Bolillo, and it's missing cream and cheese in that guajolota. It usually tastes better if the tamal (not tamale) is de rojo a pork meat one in red sauce.
I knew it looked wrong when I wrote it, @@puntodeguardado but I didn't think anyone would be pedantic enough to correct my spelling in this day and age
Hate these Amerocentric videos which expect you to know what a 'tamale' is. TH-cam is international don't you know? A quick explanation would be good, I'm not going to google tamale so I got nothing from this and will tell youtube to not recommend this channel.
Putting a sort-of-sandwich in a sandwich is wild .. like putting a slice of pizza in a calzone
I was thinking almost the same thing, but you said it better.
Mexican Wigan Kebab

That sounds ok
@@HerrBrutal-bl2fkNow of course, on said kebab pizza it's fairly common to be able to get _fries on top_ ...
"...and after a long winter's nap, we had pie that was baked in a cake."

Yes! This needed to be turned into a melt!

That was my first thought as well.
I think this is the first International Sandwiches of History I've seen that didn't require two days to make or 20 ingredients. Guess you needed a break huh? Lol thanks Barry.👍👍
He cheated by buying the tamale. :D If you make them from scratch that adds at least a full day to the recipe.
Hearing you talk about how carb heavy this was, I immediately thought of another carb on carb sandwich. The yakisoba sando. Yes, fried noodles in a bun. It's actually really good. If you haven't done it yet, you should give it a try!

I watched you on GoodMorningAmerica this morning!
love your vids man. very comforting

Cholula or Tapatio was the plus-up I had in mind. Maybe scoop out some of the inside bread like a sub, too.
Sort of reminds me of a "Pie Barm" which is a meat and potato pie sandwiched between buttered bread from the north of England
For hungry working people who are poor & just need calories & a lot of them in the lunch buckets
I bet arugula would really pop on that. Or maybe some cole slaw.

Enhanced portability with carbs for the working man, love it!
Almost like putting a corn dog in a hot dog bun. I figure I’d make it very saucy. Really dunk the tamale in a mole or enchilada sauce or such, so the roll would keep your hands clean.
I think people would like Mississippi Delta tamales for that reason. They often come with a spicy sauce, vaguely Sunday based.
I feel like this could be a Mexican equivalent of a Wigan Kebab.
Definitely a struggle meal or something you make in the middle of the night when you've had too many beers lol
Really wore yourself out on this one, Barry!
seems like it would be better served with the bread grilled in butter.
So this is the Mexican equivalent of the wigan kebab? I’m down.
I think plussing it up with some red mole sauce would have been bangin too.
You gotta work hard labor to enjoy that sandy.
Fry the tamal in a skillet with a little oil to get some crispiness
😮yeah...i thought it needed some kind of sauce...tamale sauce i was thinking, but guacamole works too. Some cheese and toastwd inder the broiler would be nice
Looks a little dry, would definitely add some salsa to each bite
The old Guacaguajolota!
Pickly pop with the sabor de Mexicano, babycakes!
Thank you
Love ISS, it alwars introduces me to things I'm unfamiliar with
"That's right!" 😀
I lurve a good napping sandwich.
There’s a place in town that makes a chile relleno burrito. You’re welcome.
Did you remove the corn husk???
Keeping it simple, homage to... sandwich
This would be nice ahogado style.
carb loading before the 5k
Just goes to show you can turn anything into a sandwich, including a full tamale, lol
A sandwich on warm bread using a meat tamale covered in the typical tamale chili gravy, finely diced onions and shredded cheddar cheese would blow that vegetarian sandwich you made out of the water.
If anything that sounds convenient. What was really throwing me off was the thumbnail. Aside from the Spanish I had no idea what was going on
Instructions unclear, bun is now inside tamale and the whole thing is wrapped in a mayo-soaked leaf of lettuce for some reason
Every single Mexican I know would give this a 3/10. I’m Mexican, I’d know. There are SO MANY more better sandwiches from Mexico
SMASH THAT ON A GRIDDLE CUBANO STYLE
🏆
I'd try a red or green salsa. It needs a little more moisture than what the guac brings.
In addition to the guac, some mayo, lettuce and a little crema and that is one hell of a torte
1st view! This sando has too much carhs for my taste
I don't really understand the point of this... the tamale is already in a corn husk... what's the point of removing it from the corn husk and putting it inside a roll?
You can eat the roll, and adds flavor.
It really does need salsa. Even better ahogado.
Sub this sandwich for any other.
Cut the bread and you have something great :D
Looks like all the pictures online it is served with salsa verde, maybe you didn't experience the full flavor profile without that.
Good street food fix. I'da gone with a fresh pico de gallo.

Not adding some red sauce on the plussed up version was the biggest crime i have ever witnessed
I would have toasted the bun and tamale separately until it had a bit of char.
Maybe you wouldn't make it again because you can eat the tamale on it's own
Very American i would guess. Good tamales don’t need any improvement
easily the most complex sandwich you have ever made, I'm sure your head is swimming from such an ordeal...enjoy the nap, you earned it.
Some things shouldn't be on here.
dislike but I appreciate your carb willingness

Way too starchy for human consumption.
