This learner driver takes a mock driving test. She makes quite a few driving faults during this driving test. At one point, this learner driver steers onto wrong side of carriageway on driving test.

Passed some weeks ago with 4 minors and without any official lessons. I watched so many videos of yours and other instructors on TH-cam, bought the ultimate course which was really helpful and got help from friends who are qualified to sit beside me while driving. Thank you very much Pin. I've been recommending friends to your channel and I will keep doing. Will keep watching these videos too as they are of immense help in every day driving even after passing.

@@noname2797 I may not be completely correct but a minor fault can also be described as common tolerable faults/mistakes we make while driving. These kind of faults are considered less hazardous to other road users and will necessarily not pose much threat to others road users especially if the situation after such fault is managed properly, in a calm manner and a bit hastily.

Firstly, I want to applaud Lucy for doing this. It takes a lot to put yourself under scrutiny in such a public way, and I hope that what she takes from this experience is that all the issues she encountered can be rectified with a little time, practice, and good instruction.
I'm not going to discuss Lucy's instructor, it absolutely wouldn't be fair. So none of what I am about to write should be seen as a comment on her instructor, a person whom we know absolutely nothing about.
The pandemic has had a significant impact on people's driving. Not just learner drivers, there are plenty of people who essentially stopped driving for a year. That will affect the confidence and ability of anybody. I hope that we are all exercising a little more caution, and a little more compassion for our fellow drivers out there.
From this video, Lucy seems to have a good head on her shoulders, enough confidence to remain calm on the roads, and a good ability to learn. She will go on to make a good driver, I'm sure.
A lot of the issues seem to point to an experience gap. The issue with reading road signs, for example, looks like it may be a capacity issue. The more we drive, the more things we do in a semi-automatic manner. That in turn allows for more capacity to carry out activities that aren't directly about controlling the car. When you are having to actively think about car control, your positioning relative to other traffic, traffic actions (speed, direction etc), it reduces your ability to think about other requirements, such as monitoring and comprehending direction signage. I hope that Lucy came away from this experience understanding that her navigation issue will be able to improve with more driving experience.
There was a comment about mirror use, and something I have seen a lot are drivers who "Check their mirrors", but never actually look in them (this is more evident when riding on a motorbike, and you can see people turning to look in the general direction of their mirrors, but they are actually looking over them, as if to look for instructions to their front quarter panels). I'm thinking this is a communication thing between instructors and learners. A lot of people don't really understand what they are supposed to be looking for in their mirrors, or what checking the mirrors actually is. They understand that they are supposed to look towards their mirrors. It is a bit like the checking the nearside mirror after passing parked cars, if an instructor never explains what you are supposed to be looking for (and when I was learning to drive a car, I tried five different instructors, only one talked about what to look for and why), it just leads to mirrors being a box checking exercise.
I want to wish Lucy all the best with her driving. With a list of elements that need some attention, I'm sure she'll be ready for her test in the very near future. For all the learners out there that lost so much driving time due to the various lockdowns, many quite probably felt like somebody hit the reset button. If you suddenly found yourself questioning your ability to drive because when your lessons started again you appeared to have regressed, try to remember that basically everybody who didn't have to keep driving through the lockdowns experienced a regression in their driving and confidence. That setback is not indicative of your ability to drive, or to learn, and you shouldn't be critical of yourself because you needed some time to get back to where you were before the lockdowns.

Not to mention all those roundabouts where the road markings have disappeared. It's one thing that an experienced driver can instinctively stay within a middle lane with no markings and another to expect it of a learner driver. Spend a bit of bloody money on paint, it ain't that expensive.

My advice is , go out there, make the mistakes you need to make and learn from them , that’s why you’re in a learner vehicle. Be confident as you’re with a qualified instructor and just enjoy your lessons. You’ll pass when you’re ready to pass. Good luck and stay safe!

Holding back the Tears bless her Roundabouts are confusing to most the only real people who get it are 4 or 5 types of drivers older more experienced drivers so 40's - 60's, People who have been driving for years so maybe 32 but passed when they were 17 and are used to it. Bus Drivers there trained to be used to handle a 11 Tonne Double Decker or Single Decker bus around Islands. Emergency Service Drivers to be able to drive around at Speed and arguably Taxi Drivers should know the roads better than most arguably Bus Drivers know more to know Diversion Routes, there actual routes and how to drive to and from there starting and ending points quickly back to Garage from Garage or from there Terminus or School bus duties.

I've watched loads of these and they always seem to have problems with those roundabouts with multiple lanes, where a new driver is expected to keep within lanes where there is ZERO markings on the road. Those roads are in shocking conditions and can't even afford paint for keeping the markings clear. And also all those bloody cars parked half on footpaths, half in the road! Lucy I drove past a group of kids and as I turned and the car swung out one of then stepped off the pavement so the sensor thing went off and it really threw me so when my instructor said turn right I went to the right hand lane, only it wasn't a lane, it was the other side of the road 🙄🙄🙄

Passed a few days ago with 6 minors. Was almost certain I failed because I was going too quickly exiting a roundabout towards the test centre (literally the last possible moment to mess up) and an old guy was crossing slowly as I was just entering the street. I didn't notice since I was tearing up that blind-ish corner at speed. The only reason I passed was because I hit the brakes before the examiner did. I think three of those minors came from that moment alone lol. Don't forget your emergency stop checks and don't assume you failed at any point, guys. You'll be fine.

30 lessons isn't actually loads of lessons considering driving is a brand new skill, and you've got loads to learn. Once you're on the road with a licence,, you're still developing your driving skills.

  • @marinusdekker6707

she is unsure, with certain decision.
I wonder if the driving lessons she gets are really that good.
it would be a shame if she has a exam when you're not ready for it.
personally I think she has an instructor who doesn't give good guidance.
if these things already go wrong, and she passed her exam, (because the traffic and everything went well) then she would be in big trouble in some other place or city, as she was not taught this properly at all .

Quick question - is it okay to go into the opposite lane/road in a parking lot to create more space before turning left into a bay, so that you don't cut the other bays when going in? Checking if the area is clear of course.

    • @ritab92

On my test I had to do a forward bay park in a rather busy and tight car park. I swirved out in the opposite side so I could get in the space perfectly and I didn't get penalised for it. I just got a minor because ai had to adjust 👍

I passed my test 13 months ago, I took Pass Plus straight after passing (first time) and am now taking advanced driving. But I am still struggling more than I should, and my instructor doesn't know or understand why. He doesn't know the problem when he says my skills are actually good... (it took me over a hundred hours of driving lessons before getting to test standard).
Would it be at all possible for me to take a test with you for you to assess me? Maybe you can see something in the way I think that other people don't?
