    I have low porosity hair and I did the test a couple of years ago and it made sense. I recently purchased the Q-Redew steamer and it has helped a lot with opening the cuticle and letting the moisture in and cleansing my hair in warm water vs the cold. For me personally, I believe knowing your porosity is more important than your hair type. I have found that I can have the same hair type as someone else, but we don't absorb moisture the same and that makes a huge difference. I am going to try the shea moisture low porosity line and see how it works for me. Thanks for posting....

    You should a video discussing the differences between the LOC method and the LCO method, and how that helps depending on what porosity someone has. That would help other as well.

    My hair is low porosity. Before I did the test I recently noticed that coconut oil hasn't been responding well it will sometimes sit on top of my hair. I looked up some better oils for low porosity hair & realized that sweet almond oil helps A LOT!

      I'm definitely going to go buy the leave-in detangler. Thanks Alba!

      I also have low porosity hair that responds the same to coconut oil and I've found the best oils for our hair is Almond, Grapeseed and Argan oil. They are lightweight yet very moisturizing. Btw the Shea moisture low porosity leave in is bomb! I recently used it and so far I love it a lot, reminds me of the kinky curly knot today leave in. P.S they had a $2 off Shea moisture coupon in last weeks circulate if you can get it.

      +nakyla123 thanks for that!! I haven't tried grapeseed oil alone but I do have some products that work well with grapeseed listed in the ingredients.

    Thank you for the video. I did the water test many time (wrong) & it left me confused, but lately using different products, I notice my hair has been getting really dry. I tried a protein treatment last week, & notice a lot more breakage after. As for oils, olive oil hates my hair &skin,never understood why, & grape seed oil too, however a little castor oil is fine if it is diluted generously. But coconut oil has been my besty. I just did the water test, my hair floated atop. Lol, knew it, I'm low porosity & finally things are starting to make sense.

I did the porosity test and found that I have low porosity. Now I can start researching more on how to take care of my hair. Thank you again :) your videos are always so helpful!

    Wow I never would have thought I had low porosity! It was interesting doing the water test. I have tight curls and putting a piece in water it uncurled a bit and stretched out but it never sank. I love both your's and Albas videos! I noticed a lot of the natural hair youtubers I watch bring out videos of the same topic at the same time. So right now high vs low porosity hair. Are TH-camrs told what to base their videos on in support of new product lines that are coming out? I'm not bothered either way, still interesting to me 😊 Just curious, seems like too much of a coincidence.

    • @alishainc
      @alishainc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FuzzBuzz♡ Thank you ❤ Yes usually when you see a lot of TH-camrs post the same thing it's because the company sent out a batch to them all at once. So far I've only had two brands send products to me so speaking about the same topic as everyone else at the same time hasn't been the case for me. xx

    Alba, what a great explanation and education video. It's one thing to read information about porosity, but the way that you explained it was so simple and easy for me to understand. I would be great to see more videos from you about how to help determine hair type, curl pattern, width and density. This helped me put a lot and I've been natural since 2012. also I didn't know Shea moisture had a low porosity line. I'll have to try. I was very disappointed when they discontinued the Yucca & Aloe thickening milk. The replacement didn't work well with my hair.

    I use to do hair and work in the salon. I have told ladies years ago the benefits of rinsing their conditioner in cold water. it locks in the moisture and give your hair a shine.. here we are in 2016 and now they are saying "rinse my hair in cold water".. :)

      I'm in between low and medium, but really medium.. Something else ppl need to know is that our hair changes every 7 years..

    • @MrsAllaysia
      @MrsAllaysia 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Stormy Gomez I think I'm a mixture of all three because I did 3 different water test on three strands. One floated to the top, the other sinker to the bottom, and the last one stayed in the middle. And I tried another one from a different spot and it stayed on top. So I think I'm low to medium porosity with a dash of high porosity but mainly low. Because of this idk how to properly treat it. For my porosity level I mean? Any advice? And I did not know cold water seals in moisture but now that I tho about it. It does make sense.

    I also have low porosity! I wonder if you put the leave-in inside the fridge and don't close the cuticles with a cold rinse if it will help retain more moisture/nutrients. Just a thought...

    I love this video because I was never educated on hair porosity. I think my hair will greatly benefit after watching this. As well I wanted to know after you do the leave in with the Low porosity product do you add anything else to style your hair or leave it as is?

    I have done the water test, but I think that is misleading. If you have low porosity and at the end of your wash you put cold water, aren't you blocking the products that you are about to put on to penetrate your hair strand?

    Amor! Love your video. I didn't know about porosity. I am trying to grow my hair which is why I use Jamaican Black Castor oil products from Shea Moisture. Do you think I should use these products interchangeably? I also do the oil treatment from your previous videos! 😃😃😃😃thanks for helping me in my hair journey!

    Hi Alba I have been following your videos what techniques did you do to get your curl back ( finger curl, scrunch till you can't scrunch no more, use perm rods to encourage curl)?
