"Stop over charging your phone and it will last years to come" Me: Or, until the manufacturer deliberately sends out a bug-infested OS software update, bogging it down or fully crashing it to force you to upgrade
I bought an aftermarket battery for my note 3, had it for years, charge overnight, holds charge. They can't bug it or my phone because I had it rooted. No problems.
The charger (a circuit inside the phone) stops charging when the battery hits 100% (not "100%" indication on the screen, 100% of the "not being charged" voltage at the terminals). When the battery drops to somewhere between 97% and 99% (depending on what the manufacturer has chosen), the charger starts charging again. The thing you plug into the wall isn't really a charger, it's just a source of power. A well-designed one doesn't let the phone see "raw power", the phone sees 5 Volts (or 9 Volts or 12 Volts, depending on what the charger is calling for). Don't charge your phone all night WITH A CHEAP DOLLAR STORE CHARGER. But the manufacturer's charger is normally safe. (And the phone's battery will be fully, or almost fully, charged in the morning.) "Don't let your phone charge all night" is just another urban legend that's been shown, over and over, to be false.
Had my phone for 5years now and wasn't aware of this problem, I have charged it overnight since I bought it and it's still going strong so it's to late to change now so I'll carry on.
@@aaroncole7959 Cheapest phone available and it is still going strong, others have lasted 10 years with constant overnight charging. Maybe we are not using "raw" electricity, whatever that is.....
When battery reach 100%, there is transistor inside the phone which switch battery charging off and use charger power to run the phone. Todays phone is smart enough
As an electronics engineer and lithium-ion battery expert I can say you can safely ignore all advice in this clip. Modern cell phones have extremely good battery management. The only thing I do differently is to use the slowest / least powerful charger I can find so that my battery charges slowly at night, thus reducing cycling wear. This is typically the 500mA available from the slower/older usb chargers and sockets. I also avoid excessive heat for prolonged periods to reduce calendar aging. My Samsung S4 is around 6 years and the original battery is still in good shape.
I am a CT and I agree. Charge at a slow rate easier on the battery. Nickel-cad are damaged by overcharging not Lithium. The utility charges less between 12:01am and 6am not that it would be much of a draw anyway.
@@leejeffers1240 You can look at the specifications for the charger, usually on the charger itself or on the box for the charger. It will say e.g. 500mA or 1A or 2A or 3A - A 1A or 500mA charger will charge quite slowly, but perfect for overnight charging. 2-3A is for when you need to charge quickly. Android also now has an option to select between a slow charging and fast charging.
2 years old comment. What's you take on charging now ? overnight with Battery Optimized Charging, even if it keeps the phone at 100% for few hours before you wake up or charge in the morning for an hour or two (can be fast charging) and using it right away so it doesn't stay above 80% for too long
@@Draculapin So, I still don't like fast charging - it accelerates cycle wear, especially as the batteries get older. Few, if any, chargers reduce charging current as a battery capacity deteriorates, so go for as slow as you can to compensate, especially on phones older than a couple of years. Plus faster charging also results in a hotter battery, and heat over time degrades the battery even more. My preference is to let it charge slow, and cool, at night. Phone will cut off charging when battery is full. Also, feel free to top up your battery as often as you need throughout the day with a short charge while you eat lunch / whatever, it will only help. If someone says the word "charge memory" to you in the context of cell phones, you can safely ignore all their battery knowledge. The big killer for a lot of cell phone batteries is calendar aging - it's a function of temperature and time, and roughly doubles for every 10C above room temperature. So try keep your cell phone from heat or from running hot, don't leave it sitting in the sun for a long time

I bought outlet timers for my house. Set it for two, four, six or eight hours. Shuts off at set time and doesn't discharge. Bought them on Amazon. Reasonable in price.
Agreed, the comment about it being “high voltage” is wrong too, even when it’s plugged in you don’t have house-voltage AC going directly into your phone, it gets converted to 5V DC by the charger.
Y'know, theres a reason to why phones have built in safety features. Sensors tell the device what the battery temp is, and can limit the charge rate to reduce heat. Devices are also plenty smart enough to slow and cut off charging at the appropriate voltage. Leaving a device plugged in after it's done charging doesn't hurt it, as again, it automatically regulates charging and cuts off where appropriate. I leave my phone plugged in alongside me when I sleep, and I've done so for many years with no issues. I feel like this video was made by someone who doesn't really know anything about the electronics inside devices nowadays, and didn't bother to do appropriate research on it. At this point you're just scaring people for something that's not even an issue anymore (and hasn't been for quite a number of years).
1:13 "They're highly vulnerable to constant interaction with high voltage electricity, like in the outlets of your house." The phone gets 5vDC at 1 - 2A, (not 120v @ 60Hz) which is exactly what it's designed for. As for the explanation of a NiCd battery's memory effect... You CAN fully charge them but they will only discharge partially to the 'memory' point, limiting it's useful capacity.
@Jay entirety wrong. When your phone reaches 100%the power is cut off automatically and immediately. And it recharges seconds before it hits 99% again.
@Jay it does, like it's illegal to not have this kind of protection on your phone. The only hazzard is that some chargers might be problematic and/or heating up really fast causing plastic to melt and toxic fumes that's a hazard to be concerned of.
I've seen just as many experts with advanced degrees arguing that leaving your phone plugged in causes no harm to your battery. And my personal experience with multiple smartphones and overnight charging, has caused me zero problems with deteriorating battery performance.
I think I speak for most people when I say that we are going to charge our phones at night. The best thing to do is trickle or slow charge while you sleep. Buy a good charger that takes 4+ hours to charge your phone.
Don't overthink it. Just plug your phone in to charge when you go to bed at night and let it charge. My phones usually last until they are too obsolete to update. You've got other, real things to worry about, certainly not this.
This is not necessarily true and inaccurate, actually this is grossly inaccurate. On second note I’ve I subbed to this channel I’ve seen too many inaccuracies and just false information. Also please post your source material.

This is false. While some phones still end up being affected, modern phones have overcharge protection.
^^^
true they just stop charging the same with laptops plugged in
Just like moisture alert most phone have it built in the hardware overcharging is a thing of the past
apple wont replace your battery at 86% health its considered healthy to them.
Did yo guys even watch the video?
Wow. They lost me when they used the term "Raw electricity" 😂 😂 😂
@Stephen Jagiello But, that destroys the electricity vitamins!
I like my electricity over medium.

Does it mean talking to Siri every minute can charge my phone real quick?
Well! Future charger here we come!
I love 2% milk and especially with some fruit loop cereal but if my iPhone gets to 2% I could become a serial killer.

I'm doing this for 6months already and I think my battery is still okay 😉
Stop immediately.
I've been charging my phone over night since l got my first phone in the late 90s.
Maybe get it checked out, for safety reasons.

Smartphones cut their supply after getting fully charged
@Jay entirety wrong. When your phone reaches 100%the power is cut off automatically and immediately. And it recharges seconds before it hits 99% again.
@Jay it does, like it's illegal to not have this kind of protection on your phone. The only hazzard is that some chargers might be problematic and/or heating up really fast causing plastic to melt and toxic fumes that's a hazard to be concerned of.
The worst part is changing your phone overnight but the switch wasn't on
Or when you realized that your charger wasn't connected in the outlet.

I've seen just as many experts with advanced degrees arguing that leaving your phone plugged in causes no harm to your battery. And my personal experience with multiple smartphones and overnight charging, has caused me zero problems with deteriorating battery performance.

This doesn’t apply for latest phones cuz literally everyone does this so it’s made to not overheat and stuff
true, it will cut the power input so it will not overheat and cause fire, it is automatic when it has 100 percent.

@Recovery Giraffe I always charge my phone at day times
I think I speak for most people when I say that we are going to charge our phones at night. The best thing to do is trickle or slow charge while you sleep. Buy a good charger that takes 4+ hours to charge your phone.
Everyone's battery of their dreams is one that doesn't have to charge.
I am working on a self charging phone
Would be interesting to see if anyone could harness the electricity in our bodies to charge our phones.
Don't overthink it. Just plug your phone in to charge when you go to bed at night and let it charge. My phones usually last until they are too obsolete to update. You've got other, real things to worry about, certainly not this.
This is not necessarily true and inaccurate, actually this is grossly inaccurate.
