  • I go over my thoughts on the Spiritus TAPs upgrade kit, considerations for purchasing it, and my load out. My way is not THE way. Do what works for you and meets your needs to complete your mission. The goal isn’t to tell you what works for you, but to share my experience and help you think through your kit.
    Contents:
    -TAPs Panel
    -Spiritus Upgrade Kit
    -2x GI canteen pouches
    -1x GI canteen cup
-2x Spiritus GP Small pouches (signaling, headlamp, NODs, etc)
    -1x Spiritus CCS pouch (admin)
No personal radio or NODs at the moment. Working towards those though but would have both for training. Radio would go where the knife is.

The kit is $185 and if you buy just the straps and buckles it's about $65. I'm probably gonna just get the straps and get some shock cord off amazon and call it a day. I don't see the dangler being worth over $100 for my applications so I'll probably go that route. Great video man.

I know a lot don’t like the price tag and I get it. Upgrading the harness is a no brainer though. Plenty of options out there for that. Thanks for watching, man.

If you buy a new harness, you can cut up the old harness to make a back strap. If you want to cut the mid strap on the panel, you will need an extra setup of buckles that clip into molle, as the panel only comes with one set (intended for IOTV)
If you want to still use it over armor, buy the extra set of buckles that clip onto molle

That type of canteen pouch is one of the most useful of all lbe type pouches.

Nice set up, particularly the canteens. I feel like it’s all needed gear, but personally I’d toss some of that in a day pack or camelback pouch so I can have less on my chest. I just picked up a couple TAPS to butcher so I don’t make my supply guy mad. Going with the harness, not Kit. Thanks for review!

you don't need to cut the old mag retention flaps, you can push them down inside and use a plastic mag retention inserts... makes it even better.

Get a $19 dollar web H harness, $5 of shock cord, and you have the upgrade with out the slop dangler. If rly want something like that get a $12 surplus assault pouch an jus weave the bottom molle an bam a better pouch same mods all for about $36. Bucks. Less if you cut the pouch or already have it, and most of us have shock cord or tabs to pull off other items. Then its $19 for same upgrades.

Good looking setup! So much GP lol. For mil applications I think having pouches for smoke/frag is important, so if you feel you could/would hold those in those small Spiritus pouches then your good to go. I like dedicated mag pouches on the outside of mine.

Yeah, that was a GP heavy set up. Doesn’t mean it all has to be used. I agree on grenade pouches, if you’re going to be carrying them. I think smokes might fit in the small GPs. Haven’t had a chance to see yet. On the mag pouches, why do you use external pouches when there are 6+ built in? Just curious. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the in depth video. Are those issued canteens or different ones?

      They’re Nalgene Oasis canteens.

I find the only thing here I dont like is the main front pouch. I like being able to lay down. I feel like the dangler could be in the way too. I like the rest of the set up. Personally, as a team leader, I run more mags than my "7" because I like to shoot as much as I can. Your set up doesn't look bad and TAPS works fine.. its just not perfect as with most issued equipment

I've found in my experience that if you don't overload the dangler with a bunch of shit, you can hit the prone very easily still. I don't put my IFAK in the dangler pouch, usually just a beanie, gloves, some chemlights, batteries, and energy chews/hydration tablets. Even with all of that in there it hasn't caused any issues in the field. The price tag is pretty annoying for what it is, even on E-5 salary- but long term, I'd say it was worth it for me. I also managed to "find" an extra TAPS back when I was a savvy little private that I kept for the sole purpose of turning in to CIF while my "main" TAPS is what I take with me to the field- so I spent about 200 bucks on a chest rig that I can keep even after I get out.

@@smeefbeef Guys don't realize that a similar sized GP pouch can be used as a dangler. I use a Tactical Tailor 1H Horizontal Utility Pouch as a dangler. Attached it using the ITW Quick Attach Surface Mount buckles. Saved me $30.

Will those mag slots fit ar10 mags? Looking for something I can use for 5.56 and .308 and just swap the mags for what I’m carrying and this holds a good amount of mags unlike other .308 friendly options
