I always thought Vesperia was lacking in combat and movement was stiff back then. Though I still think moving around is still a bit stiff, seeing all the tech I've been missing out on has been an eye opener. Thank you for this guide! 💗
*Guard artes allows you to cancel guard into a base arte with I-frames upon activation. This video is an introduction to the basic mechanics of Vesperia. You may be familiar with some of these mechanics, but I will elaborate on their functions and applications in my own words. OTG and Pick-up will also appear in the advanced techniques video, as the mechanics and its ultilization go much deeper than what meets the eye. Many other mechanics or applications of the basics are character specific, so I will do in-depth on the actual character videos. I do ask you exercise some patience; as the next few guides will take a lot of effort, recording, and trying to sync player input from a gamepad viewer to said footage (I'm playing on PS3) since I've had people ask for it. It will also be very helpful if you consider becoming a patron since this project will become an immense time sink.
Actually Destiny DC system’s a lot better than this. In fact DC battle system is the best. Not saying this one is terrible but definitely not the best.
Including the controller inputs was sick! Visual aid always proves to help me learn far greater than I would have without. I misunderstood how Guard Artes worked. Time to get back to practicing! Thanks Passaro! Looking forward to the advanced section! Just out of curiosity, will you ever go into character specific combos?
I came into this video hoping it would be something that'd give me a better basic understanding of the combat to make things easier, and left it having flashbacks to when I used to try to learn fighting games.... I think ToV maybe is just not the JRPG for me, I was already annoyed by the lack of being able to just save anywhere (as a PC player this is a hard thing to get used to), but the combat just seems like more of a hassle than I want to deal with. (I know I don't NEED to do the stuff here, but with the basic combat I was having issues getting combos in without getting interrupted by another enemy, so this seems like it might be more needed than I'd like)
I really thank you for your videos, I watched them a long time ago when started Vesperia then dropped it... I was able to free run cancel and spell cancel, do the basci stuff but my main concern were the boss fights where they simply tech and I got only frustration, it is sad doing some basic combo and they breaking out to spam their stuff but if I tried to counter them I was hit instead (didn't change it to easy or normal tho...). Also there was something you show in this video, the OTG attacks which I can't do constantly with each character depending on the skill set used, then a knock down was dead time for me and the whole recovery time for the IA to wake up with full immunity to my meety and slice me like butter. I played just now Xillia (since I came from Zestiria and Berseria) and the first thing I checked whas that: Can I simply attack a knocked enemy? Yes I can... also there didn't seem to be a need for the guard cancel so I will try to continue and finish Vesperia now but the combat system feels so bad sometimes it is sad.
I'll explain spell cancelling in the advanced techniques video, but yes. Spell casters make better use of spell cancelling vs manual cancelling. It's faster since you remove the free run sliding/guard animation.
Yeah I got that same vibe, it’s a good story but the combat is horrible imo, I’d advise changing to easy to avoid all that. I would enjoy the mechanics if I didn’t have to constantly babysit the ai companions who constantly either drain resources or are useless:/ the boss fights are nonsense

Awesome guide, I also got the game myself finally! Time to get back into Yuri Lowell maining and using other fun characters
These mechanics focused videos are fantastic, thank you for your hard work, definitely looking forward to the next one
Thank you for this series, this is very helpful since I'm new to Vesperia and getting used to normal fights.
Very helpful, thanks a lot! I would highly appreciate more of this stuff.
Once again Vesperias system is King
@Anonymous na. Most are satisfying but I find it flows better than alot. Next would be Xilia,Graces, and Berseria for me

Love this; I only ever got comfortable with Judy in the 360 edition but I’m excited to test these techniques out so I can finally clear coliseum lol
Lowfi combos to chill and beat foes to.
Bout to pass this around.
Thanks for this ! I never really understood guard artes before but thanks to this it helped, just need to try it now ^^

Thanks for putting this together!!

What about Repede's Free Run canceling? I can't quite figure it out
Dis is dope
i've noticed that you cancel flynns artes with a magic arte. is there any benefits with canceling an arte with a magic arte cast?
I'll explain spell cancelling in the advanced techniques video, but yes. Spell casters make better use of spell cancelling vs manual cancelling. It's faster since you remove the free run sliding/guard animation.
Are there any skills necessary to have equipped to use some of these techniques?
Jump cancel on Judith. Other than that, you just need to be on manual for the cancels and level yo your artes that have pick up functions
Guard Artes and Jump cancel are skills, but beyond that there are no necessary skills.
Nice
Can you jump cancel mid arte animation?
literally what
Really?
So is manual cancelling the same for Judith? I have landing recovery after doing an aerial arte, maybe my inputs are not good enough?
Yes, it's the same but it can be a bit weird with her timing; especially with Luna Talon. Try buffering the inputs by holding it.
@@RinKiriTales Thank you. Looking forward to the next video ! 👀
Got it, so you basically have to pull off some impossible bs Street Fighter Combo mechanics in order to play a JRPG game
Negative, you can play how you like. If you want to increase your efficiency and effectiveness then you'd have to learn some of the deeper mechanics.

If your incredibly bad at games then yeah it does seem like that.
This game has the worst combat I’ve ever played
Man you haven't played anything if you think this is bad combat
Nice video! loved it I had no idea you could buffer the manual cancel I thought it was a timing thing.
