Me too. I though I'd hear the names of different bacteria and then there'd be something unidentified and scientists come to the conclusion that it's an airborne virus called corona 200 and we will all die within days.
Yeah but The water is cleaned and somehow oceans and lakes keep the water fresh so the taste won't change I think I don't really know about these things but I'm just saying what I know.
Dante Rivera oxygen is formed after the first stars die, and they are the product of fusion so that's few million years after big bang. Hydrogen is about 200 seconds after the big bang
as a geology nerd I'm so mad you just destroyed such an incredible specimen, but also holy shit that's a surprising amount of germs in some old rock water, that was a rad experiment. I'm glad mitchel didn't die.
it wasn't rock stuff. One thing they didn't do in that experiment, just take that stick and also move it on the surface of the gel, and also another thing just open it in the room and close. no bacterias in the water of the rock, pretty much guaranteed. there could be microcracks and such, we can't tell on the video. Assuming there wasn't, it was most sterile naturally occurring water sample they could get hands on. judging by the number of colonies it produced - a density of bacterias wasn't that high. but it just for fun, testing kinda done in the way, but if it would be a more serious stuff it would be done a bit differently. Despite of that - quite predictable results.
On top of that, I don't think that taste alone can tell age. I know it can sometimes tell quantity, but if they seriously act like they can give an exact age on the rock by taste alone, they are denser than the rock itself.
I was really praying that Mitchell would not turn into a zombie, but instead something like the Hulk. I recommend trying to make him angry. Just start being really passive aggressive with him about his choices in shoes. That should do it.
Pretty much every science, religion, and creed agree that water was one of the first molecules formed as the earth cooled. I mean, duh... It's a really simple molecule, with quite readily available materials, given the time-frame.
'I wonder when this lollipop was made' *licks* Yep... hmm 35 years, 2 months... *licks again* 35 years, 2 months, 24 days, 5 hours, 7 minutes I'm probably going to die for the next 2 days.
green house I wonder the amount of energy in the water? Any way of finding out what properties would be different. It's like science now agrees that everything is energy and crystals must have a huge amount after millions of years of constant pressure or heat. I still think to this day there is more to crystals than what we are told.

It's very likely that the quartz water had additional bacteria because they wacked it with a hammer and introduced particulates into it (besides what's already floating in the air). ;) A much more sterile room and process would have been much more interesting. Also, getting that quartz water under a microscope would be very interesting.
That and the fact that the Quartz more or likely formed around a pool of water, capturing the water, the particles from the environment, oxygen and any bacteria living in the water at the time.
Well, you are right, I have a bacteriology degree and its well known that the blood agar plate can be easily contaminated even with a breath if you are close the petri dish, because it has real animal blood and it works to grow almost any kind of bacteria on the environment, even some kind of fungus can grow easily if the spores are floating in the air, if they want to do a propperly culture of bacteria coming from the inside of the rock, they need to use latex gloves, face masks , a sterile nichrome handle and of course they need to work really close to a Bunsen burner and leave the petri dish inside a calibrated incubator at least if they want a reliable result, but the video still funny and very interesting.
Im sure if there was a magnified slow motion capture you could see the microscopic dust and debris exploding into the air on impact and settling in the liquid. You won’t see it so fast in this video.
Fun fact, a study has been done sequencing the bacterial DNA in the water in enhydro agate rocks. Spoiler alert, it's just soil bacteria in it, specifically _Phyllobacterium_ an aerobic, gram-negative bacteria. It's not known to be pathogenic so you're good Mitchell (hopefully)!
that doesn't mean its not old. think about the water that has sat in caves for years or water at the bottom of the ocean that hasn't changed states in just as long.
not exactly true considering alot of water evaporates into steam and then it cools down back to water. It is basiclly resicles every day but this water in preticular was traped in a rock for 2.5 million years and didn't go through that sooooooo
Sure, all water as in H2O is millions of years old. But THIS water, as in this exact composition of water and its impurities, has been lying perfectly undisturbed in that quartz while the waters around it have been getting muddied and evaporated and vomited forth by the heavens again. This is like, magic water, man.

If you believe evolution, modern bacteria, even a simple cold are insurmountably more deadly then two million year old un-evolved bacteria. The chances of ancient bacteria developing a backdoor past out immune system by pure accident is almost mathematically impossible. Bacteria get more deadly by "Survival of the fittest" not "I hid in a rock, hue hue tricky me :3"
it's obviously not safe. but there is a possibility that anything could happen. he could get a new bacteria from the dinosaur age . or he just drinks plain water from a stone full of minerals. anything's possible, but yea I can agree that might not be safe.
Can you imagine what might have been living in that? Unique microscopic life could have evolved and lived in that tiny, isolated environment. I'm no scientist so I could be 100% wrong and nothing was actually kicking in that rock-milk. But can you imagine? Potentially millions of years of isolated development. You guys might have just made dozens or hundreds of species unknown to science extinct for the sake of a taste-test in your workshop. That's pretty metal.
being isolated would make it not evolve, as in, theres no reason for the bacteria to evolve because of the isolation. the same thing happened earlier 2017, polar ice caps melting released a bunch of frozen viruses but they haven’t evolved for so long they’re useless now. still pretty metal how the guy straight up licks that shit lmao
/// actually your statement is completely wrong. In enclosed caves that is very well-documented hundreds of different species of animals, insects, fish, amphibians, and bacteria do completely evolved to their unique isolated environment! Seriously just look it up it's actually quite fucking cool LOL

That and the fact that the Quartz more or likely formed around a pool of water, capturing the water, the particles from the environment, oxygen and any bacteria living in the water at the time.

“Oldest water we can get our hands on”
Bruh just go to the ocean
Can you imagine what might have been living in that? Unique microscopic life could have evolved and lived in that tiny, isolated environment. I'm no scientist so I could be 100% wrong and nothing was actually kicking in that rock-milk. But can you imagine? Potentially millions of years of isolated development. You guys might have just made dozens or hundreds of species unknown to science extinct for the sake of a taste-test in your workshop.
That's pretty metal.
Little slow on the draw there, buddy. My comment is three weeks old. I'm sorry you don't want them to cut into old rocks.
being isolated would make it not evolve, as in, theres no reason for the bacteria to evolve because of the isolation. the same thing happened earlier 2017, polar ice caps melting released a bunch of frozen viruses but they haven’t evolved for so long they’re useless now. still pretty metal how the guy straight up licks that shit lmao
Dude you could be right
we evolved in a the isolated earth
/// actually your statement is completely wrong. In enclosed caves that is very well-documented hundreds of different species of animals, insects, fish, amphibians, and bacteria do completely evolved to their unique isolated environment! Seriously just look it up it's actually quite fucking cool LOL
This is quality science I come to youtube for
I wish I had that power. Too taste how much it's worth
