- I've taken on a ridiculous project: to restore a vintage Sony/MCI MXP-3036 recording console.
I don't entirely know how to do this, but I'll figure it out as I go and hopefully come out with an amazing peice of vintage audio history to use in my studio.
In part 5, I finally sort out the power issues after wiring capacitors the wrong way. Then I make progress on the automation system and finally start to learn to calibrate the system.

Jon you've got me hooked. Can't wait to see your next update. Hope things are going smoother now. You deserve an amazing sounding desk with all the effort you have already put in.
I'm wrestling with getting an IMD Analyzer for final calibration, but things are moving along. I may have the next part in a couple of days, and some news to follow soon after that.
I fell asleep watching your studio build and then this restoration and had a dream I was building a studio on top of a IHOP 😂
Nice to know that my videos are a cure for insomnia. ;-P
...."only a few brief moments of terror" lol. Good to see you & the board Jon....going to have to re-learn some older Rush...Moving & before is my sweet spot....cheers from Sidney
I'm glad someone picks up on my quirky comments. ;-)
Cheers.
So inspiring!!! Stoked on your progress ❤ keep going!!!
Thank you. Working on Part 6 later this week. And there will be a Part 7!
Congratulations! I'm almost done with mine too, and it sounds awesome! I'm interested in how are you planning to solve the distortion analyzer bit, i gotta do it too at some point.. The device itself seems kind of expensive and clunky to have just so you can you can use it once or twice.. Maybe it's possible to rent one for a few days...?
When I do, I'm sure I'll talk about it. I found one for $200 CAD, but shipping was $330!!!
@@EdgetoneStudios That's usually the case because those things are bulky and the sellers try to chisel on shipping when they can.
Check that the scope input is DC coupled I think you are adjusting the Offset.
That is something I will now look into. Thanks.
Turns out it was DC coupled. But should it be?
What a journey! Was a bit jealous of your board at first thinking you‘ll have a much smoother sailing than I had with mine but oh boy…by the way symmetry adjust does not necessarily mean offset - try raising the gain until you see clipping, if you only shave of one half of the sine that is what you‘ll adjust with this trimpot :) Hope that helps. All the best, Tobi
