Exploring (what's left of) the Abandoned "My Cousin Vinny" Motel

  • Hi everyone, welcome to my latest adventure! I almost passed on this site...but in the end, I had 2 locations left before I made it home, and plenty of day left. This one was on the way, and while it's mostly demolished and the one remaining building is gutted, I couldn't resist.
I don't know specifically when it opened (I think in the 50s or so), or when it closed, though I read one article that said it was active in 2012, but this motel was used as a filming location for the movie "My Cousin Vinny".
While they used several outside shots, and Joe Peschi and Marissa Tomei 'stayed' in room 11, the rooms were too small for interior filming...however, their breakfast of eggs and grits, while asking the cook about the steam whistle, was actually filmed inside the now dark and stripped cafe building.
I had been returning home from an explore in 2019 when I saw the motel on the side of the road...I stopped, took some pics, and knew nothing about its claim to fame until I returned home and Googled the name. While exploring, I saw part of the motel had sustained fire damage; which I would find was due to a suspected electrical malfunction in 2018.
I hope you enjoy this video, and of course I encourage you to like, comment, and subscribe...I thank you for your continued viewership, and I appreciate the support you offer by just checking out my channel!
As an urban explorer, I don't give out specific location information publicly, and I do not vandalize, steal, destroy, or force entry into locations, and I do my best to respect the integrity of the site and anything associated with it. Urban exploration can be a dangerous and illegal activity, even when proper precautions are made, and I do not intend to encourage or inspire others to undertake this activity due to a direct result of my choices or experiences.

That's an awesome, movie connection. What a tragic ending to the motel, however. Thanks for the background info. I love the old signs, too. It might've been your last chance to go in the old restaurant. 👏👏💔

Thank you so much! I'm glad I stopped one last time; wasn't sure I'd get in with it being so sealed...I wonder if they'll save the restaurant, considering the motel was demo'd a couple years ago. 👍🤗😁

Very neat to see an explore of a place that was used in a movie.

I’ll go ahead and admit it. I never watched that movie. I’ve heard it’s a good one, but just never took the time to watch it. I can’t believe you met Tampa Jay there! What were the chances of that? I’ve been watching his channel for years. He does seem like a really nice guy. I’m going to time travel and see if I can find your previous video of this place. I really expected that fan to have the drooping blades. Very surprised it didn’t. Glad you were able to get in there, though. Not a lot to see, but I enjoyed the explore. Thanks for sharing this with us. I’ve been meaning to ask you if you wear any special footwear when you explore. So many dangerous things on the floors of some places. Have a great Sunday 💕😊

It's a funny movie; definitely worth checking out! Yeah, Tampa Jay was real nice; he was apparently shooting the various existing filming locations for MCV that day...we were both disappointed that the motel had been demo'd, but we had a nice conversation for a bit.
Unfortunately, this is the only video I have from here. I hadn't started doing TH-cam when I first discovered this one...wish I had. I do, however, have a good stock of pics.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this, thank you so much! As far as footwear, I tend to wear thick soled, steel-toe boots when exploring...definitely gotta watch out for nails, tacks, and spikes (I've had to pull out more than a few after some explores 😬).
I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great week! 👍❤😁

Thank you so much! Makes me wish I'd done videos back on my first explore; they hadn't gutted it out so much by then...but it was great to see the old place again. I liked that they had left the fans. Hope you've been doing well! 👍😁
