Why you are missing crappie on Side-Scan!

- I was using Side Imaging trying to locate winter crappie along a steep bank that dropped into a creek channel. One the first pass, I did not see the school of fish. I made another scan and picked up a ton of fish that were on fire! I will show you at the end of the video how easy it is to miss these fish on Sonar! In the video I said I was using 1/4 oz jig head. I was using 1/16 oz. Sorry for the mistake . I posted another video where I show the brand. Not that the brand matters.
The most helpful video I’ve come across to understand where the fish are in relation to my boat, what to look for, and most importantly what I’m actually seeing on my graphs. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!🐿
A bad day a of fishing (and this looks like a good day) is better than a good day just about anywhere else. Thanks again for taking us along with you. Blessings
Yes sir 🐿
An awesome video again. It has a ton of information on it . Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks Ronald I appreciate you watching !🐿
Another great video! Lots of great information
Thank you Catfish Weekly! 🐿
I been using side scan to find crappie for about 8 years now, but last week i got the active target 2, unreal what you see with the active target. good video...once I get the active target figured out, i'll try to do a video on it. But I dont see how it will help me with catfishing...we'll see i guess.
Another awesome video. Thank you for taking the time to show the fish on side scan. Good practice on catching only what you need. Not many people would do that.
Thanks Wayne !🐿
Great video as always. Subbed and liked
Thank you JW. I really appreciate the support! 🐿
@@FishinwithSquirrel I see you on the lake sometimes. I'll shout out to you next time
@@drjaywhitlock absolutely 👍🐿
Absolutely 💯 🐿
i like how you look around .there must have been anouther fisherman close and you didnot wont him to see you spankin um.i do rhe same thing good tips on the graf.
WhT is a point one antenna
Ronald, if you go to my channel and look for the thumbnail with money on it. It says “what’s the point 1”. Tell me if I do a good job explaining the point 1 antenna! 🐿
Man your making it hard to stay off the water and play
Well I done treed this vidio again! Must b a good one!
Range - water column = distance from boat. Pause the screen, look at the depth, go to the top of screen and water column is the same depth, so if you see crappie in water column they are under the boat. They show up on 2D the same time they show up in water column, 2D is under the boat a cone 1/3 the depth.
Harry, thanks for the comments, I appreciate you viewing my channel. Crappie were not under my boat, I spotlock and cast to them. Check out this video, I think it will help clarify things. “MASSIVE 20' wide school of crappie right under peoples' feet and they don't have a clue!

Is that really a 1/4 oz jig? I usually use a 1/16 or 1/8. Faster sink? Or what do you like about it?
1/16 but usually a 1/32 oz.
Why are you fishing the back and not the front ? Thanks
There are a few reasons I fish off the back. I haven’t mounted a ram ball on the front for my active target . I have a full Bimini top I keep up which makes it more difficult to cast off the front. Also, I enjoy striper and catfishing, the back of my boat is set up with a cutting board and all my monster rod holders. It can be aggravating with active target on the back when the boat swings around when there is not a constant wind. I will eventually mount a ram ball on the front. Thanks for watching!
Good video. After you marked with waypoint, could you indiate " Go TO " waypoint and the point one would indicate the direction of the fish as the boat turned differebt direcctins?
I never use the “go to “ feature on my graph. It should do exactly what you are describing. The point one is just an external antenna with built in compass for heading.
Thanks for heliping me understand this subject.@@FishinwithSquirrel
That was a lot of good information in a short amount of time. You ever fish Lake Murray?
Thank you Larry. I have not fished Lake Murray Yet, I want to go there and Striper fish. I appreciate the comment brother! 🐿
Looking good Squirrel , I mostly fish Keowee myself . Keep em coming
Thank You Mr Wood! I appreciate you watching. I need to get up on Lake Jocassee!🐿
@@FishinwithSquirrel Sounds good , there's a record fish up there ! , but only if I can go
I caught one 15 1/2 inches long did not have my scales with me
Great job of teaching side scan sonar
Started watching this video after your Panfish nation podcast appearance. Lots of great info. Greatly appreciate it. My unit is a Hummingbird 597 HD side scan unit. However a lot of the info your putting out can be used by any unit. I haven't been on the water with mine yet, but that will happen soon. Thank you for the info.
Thanks for watching Eric!
Very informative thank you for it on your GPS screen on your boat heading setting are you in cursor up or what have you got that setting on
Heading up, I never run North up. Way to confusing for me when north is up. 🐿
Best I’ve seen explaining side imaging. I like how you make passes at different distances that’s helpful.
Thank you! 🐿
Nice video. Great use of your electronics.
Thanks for watching!🐿
Love your videos. Question you had a great video explaining side scan with card board really opened my eyes. What happened to it? I seams to be just fine I watched it 2 days ago. Best explanation I have seen. Thanks keep up the awesome work.
I will edit and repost the video, after fielding over 120 questions, I felt like I was confusing people instead of helping them. I’m editing one very similar and will post soon. Thank you for your support! 🐿
@@FishinwithSquirrel heck yeah man that’s awesome. I didn’t find it confusing at all. It really opened my eyes. Was going crazy wondering what happened when it was gone. I was like did I dream this 😂. I can’t wait to see the new video. Thanks for the content
Great and very useful video. Was on Keowee today and got a few. A lot of fishing videos out here but this is one is one of the most useful I've seen. Thanks Squirrel.
Thank You Jody, I. Appreciate the comment. Congrats on the catch and braving the wind. 👍🐿
